Normally I don't like RPF, but if someone wrote fic of that I would read the fuck out of it.

Yeah. I was reading an abused!Harry Potter fic awhile ago, and it was one where an actually very in character Snape discovers the abuse over Christmas break. It starts out as a very good story between them as Snape's perception of Harry as a spoiled brat begin to shift, but then all of a sudden Snape's left Voldemort's circle and he and Remus are co-guardians/mentors of Harry's and Harry starts calling Snape "Dad" because the ghost of James said it was OK or some such and I was just like whatever.

You're a nasty pervert. Go remove yourself from the world, preferably soon.

I don't know anything about Tori Amos, but why are you ashamed to be associated with her music?

Also, that's happened to me with Truthfully (Avengers fandom). It was crack, so I wasn't expecting much beyond the hilarious premise. It turned out to be a VERY enjoyable read, and I got really hooked on it, but these days it's woobie!Loki all over the place. If he ends up in a relationship with Dr. Moran (it seems to be heading that way), I'll be VERY pissed. I kinda see her as a positive authority figure for him, not as his freaking gf.

You're putting some video game character on a pedestal, it happens to all people - take how many people are absolutely convinced they're in love with that one celebrity. You might want to argue that you really "know him" because you can interact with him in the game, but let's face it, everything you see too are only choice bits.

I love Nana to Kaoru but yeah, it can be awkward to explain.

Even though you can't "romance" him, I played a guy in Fallout: New Vegas so that I could flirt with Arcade. Because I love him so. My character still feels like "me" even though he's a guy, so maybe try playing as a M!Shepard and see if it works for you? I do understand that it sucks not to just be able to romance whoever you want regardless of gender, though, but that's just the way the game was made. :(

As an aside: Some anon (I think) posted something like 'Tali :'( ' here one time and so everytime my SO talks about her, we say "Tali. Tear." He cried, literally, during that one part in 3 so this amuses us greatly.

Not OP but in a somewhat similar situation (the in-love-with-fictional-character bit, not the boyfriend part) -- how would you go about analyzing something like that? I'd really like to figure it out and get to know myself better, but I don't know where to start.

I think you're 100% correct, although I have no idea if it's because of women-dominated spaces or not.

Everyone is a tiny bit dickish inside. Add that to the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory, and that expands to everyone is somewhat dickish and aren't afraid to show it. If you make a shit-ton of rules, that dickishness will be passive-aggressive rather than bluntly aggressive, but it WILL be there.

Yeah, it's happened. Usually I don't say anything on a fic if the characters become really OOC though. I usually only comment on fics if I really like them.

I read about 99% Sherlock fic right now and this happens far more than it should right after Sherlock and John decide to start having sex. All of a sudden I'm like "Who are these people and where did the characters go?"

But it also comes down to personal opinion I suppose.

Also if the writing style is good enough or the story is interesting or only one character is out of character and I don't have anything better to do I frequently just power through and read it anyway.

I'm always amazed how many people question themselves because they're attracted to that one person/character out of their usual range. It's okay to be attracted to someone you'd normally not be attracted to, sexuality is not black and white, it happens to a lot of people.

Also can I say how much I hate the phrasing "go straight/gay for"? Bisexuality is a thing, people. And sexuality isn't a choice :/

Good luck in pretty much any mainstream fandom then. Most are like this.

This sounds pretty normal for a long term relationship. The NRE wears off but you're still dedicated to being with someone, and...life goes on. At this point, getting romantic crushes on people other than your partner is a normal thing that everyone does. Me and my spouse talk about ours all the time.
