Wow, people do this? Fandom is subject to the same statistics as other cross-sections of the population. Some are classically attractive, others classically...not as attractive. Besides, who cares what someone looks like as long as they're being a good fan and not creepy or mean?

People on the Internet are often terrible, and you shouldn't pay that much attention to them. That's just a good general rule. If they're saying you're ugly, you shouldn't care one way or the other. Because the Internet will eat you alive.

I'm not sure that the rest of the way you present things is necessarily the best way to present things, though - in particular the "FUCK YOU UGLY PEOPLE" conclusion. That's... at best unfortunate, and at worst either hateful or blatantly trolling. In any case, not a good look. You're not exactly improving on the behavior of the people you're objecting to. I don't know.

I think a lot of people here are misinterpreting OP's use of the word "ugly" at the end. I really don't think she's talking aesthetics; I think she's talking on the inside. Seems to me that had she not added "as the stereotypes say" there would be less confusion.

OP, if those people have so little self-esteem that they feel they have to insult you, then yes, I do believe they are ugly people.

I'm not that surprised to read something like this happening. You can get similar feedback when people find out that you're skinny and/or athletic, while they are overweight and have assumed that you'd be too. Try to ignore it, since it's mostly based on their self image or confidence issues.

I don't understand why anyone cares what their fandom friends look like in the first place, but this is a bizarre reaction to seeing a picture of someone. How 'This can't be you!' comes to mind in that situation is a mystery. Ugly or gorgeous...why would it even matter and why would one feel the need to make a big fuss about it?

I believe it, especially the part about them getting cruel. I'm not saying this is an excuse, but consider Thich Nhat Hanh's quote- When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over.

Realizing that they have a friend whose face they personally find aesthetically beautiful probably set off all sorts of emotions. Off the top of my head, I imagine "she would probably think I'm ugly if she saw me" and "now I really won't post a picture of myself" and "if I looked like that, I would..." and lots of nasty stuff that lead them to thinking "I can't deal with her looking like that, I'm deciding that it's not real."

That's interesting...I tend to visualize all my fandom friends as being very attractive (vastly moreso than I am) and to be a bit taken aback when it turns out one of them isn't, though by this time I should really know better. Either way it's bogus to give somebody crap about their appearance.

Ugh I'm sorry you went through this. I'm not blessed with photogenic looks, but I have been told that I'm sexy, even beautiful. I can promise you that (some) girls can be really cruel and competitive for no reason aside from jealousy. It's really sad and it always makes me angry.

Don't worry not all fans are that bad. Unfortunately when you're brave enough to post a picture of yourself, there will always be people who will try to tear you down in the internet, since so many insecure people hide out on here, many of whom are not all that great looking.

Anyway, you are beautiful and don't let what a few crass fans say get to you. Hopefully you can just make fandom friends with people on your favorite social media site that won't start insulting you. :(

Some people are ugly and bitter, some people are more conventionally attractive and think they have the right to judge. But like you said, everyone looks fine, flaws and all, even if their personalities are ugly as a shit stain.
