Sorry, this is really long-winded and rambly.

The thing I object to is that when someone doesn't follow the advice, or tries to and ends up getting raped anyway, they get blamed. Someone will say "Well, she was alone." or "She wasn't paying attention to her drink." and unfortunately, most people will have a subconscious "Oh, well that's why she got raped." thought, even if they know logically that it wasn't the victim's fault. Or sometimes it's a not-so-subconscious thought and they really do believe that. Maybe the "men should just not rape" thing is becoming an unhelpful cliche but I think originally it was meant to be "Why don't we think more critically about the attitudes our culture has towards rape and try to come up with a better solution to the problem."

Personally the first time I heard it, it opened my eyes, because even when I was really little my parents were telling me how to act and what to do in order to be safe and I think most girls grew up with that kind of teaching, but I always had the feeling that the boys weren't taught to take it seriously. Like they didn't understand how powerless they actually made girls feel. So I guess the real meaning is "Let's teach boys about rape with the same level of seriousness that we teach girls."

Why do you? Question works both ways.

this exactly.

I'm just surprised that any of the anons recognize anyone. The only people I recognize are the noodle because he trolls and dred-something because he likes games.

I mean, I recognize the names, but I wouldn't be able to attach a personality on to them. Oh, and faux?karen and Catelyn.

But bless Flounder's heart, he would try his best. :)

This makes me think of that bumper sticker/piece of flair on Facebook: "Disney gave me unrealistic expectations about hair."

My hair was in a bob and even I tried it. I was going more for an Ariel vibe, though (which is weird, because I had black hair).

What the hell is he doing there and not creeping on Scott Summers or Gambit?

That's why it's called Health At Every Size. Because you're supposed to be healthy. No one credible says that you should carry on life being unhealthily over- or underweight.

Doesn't that shit burn though?

This is the kind of thing that's hot as fuck if everyone involved is aware and consenting, but fucked up and absolutely not okay otherwise. I mean, if the guy doesn't know you're okay with it... :/

I kind of have a thing for my boyfriend's brother too. The thing is, he brought it up and planted the idea in my mind first! I mean, I thought the guy was attractive when I met him, but I wouldn't have given it much thought if my boyfriend didn't bring it up first. Now we have this stupid inside joke about him and his brother being gay for each other, and his brother knows and they've done absurd fake-sexual things (like... not actually incest, just miming sex with clothes on and stuff) to see me blush.

My boyfriend and I are considering eventually trying threesomes, and I wouldn't be too upset if it was with his brother... I don't expect it to actually happen either, though.

Pretty much my stance on it. I loved Kate's bit - yay for cliche subversions! - and Loki's bit confused me a bit (probably because I don't read JiM) and I have no idea who the fuck Miss America is, but honestly, I still quite like it.

I haven't read much about YA, but teenagers are kind of stupid and melodramatic and have poor judgement of the consequences of their actions, so I didn't think it was anything outrageous.

if you're sick of them "not extending the same courtesy" then you need to tell them to stop doing whatever it is they're doing around you that's so grating

but if the mere mention of anything scripture-related provokes this hateful ~it's nonsense thought from you then it sounds like you might not know how to go about asking them to stop in a respectful way. you're really not the bigger person just because you keep your mouth shut, no less if your fam isn't being rude about their beliefs

Jasmine is far more take charge and willing to call her boyfriend on and and all bullshit.

Ariel's more swoony and adoring.

Which one do you think guys prefer?

(But yeah Jasmine is a lot hotter. Honestly Ariel is cute, but as far as hotness goes she ranks pretty low on the Disney ladder.)

How many other crimes result in the victim being harassed or disbelieved because they didn't do enough to stop it?

I struggle with this issue. It's something I'm really really ashamed of, but I do tend to judge obese people harshly. I know it's wrong and I shouldn't do it, but I have a lot of issues with body image and weight and it's something I'm working on. But I never ever would actually lecture or demean or anything to someone about this, it's just an issue that I personally struggle with in my head, you knwo?

Words that you hate?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
What are some words you hate?

For me - garment burp, pap, choke, renege

Also, I really dislike whinging... which inspired me to write this, since I see it floating around the comm a lot recently. I know it is a common word, I just don't like it.

Have you ever stopped to consider that you're probably just really fucking unattractive and unpleasant to be around? That'll make anyone not want to fuck you.

that website is funny to me because when someone uses it is like...well, thanks for typing up a website + the search term + copying the link + going back to the comment thread + giving me the link which types out the search term and gives me results. I sat very prettily while you went out of your way to avoid human communication and look like a douchebag.
