They're lions! Humanize them however the hell you want! Personally, I think this is one of the best humanized Lion King fanarts I've ever seen, because I immediately recognized who everyone was supposed to be and didn't need them to be labeled. I can't recognize most humanized characters, no matter what race the artists make them.

*squeals* This thread! (Wank, race, second verse same as the first, whatever.) But I love humanized/genderbent/timeswapped/reimagined characters more than is reasonable. The recs are already delighting me. It's so fun to see how people take the little design details and personality traits that make a character and skew them in new ways. They're usually greatly creative.

I don't care what color people make them. My issue with THOSE specific fanarts is MUFASA AND SCAR ARE TOO PRETTY.
I just CAN'T see pretty boy!Scar and Mufasa always struck me as a bear!man type look, but regal.

Simba can be the pretty boy, sorta, but those two? NO.

yeah excluding pumba from here is pretty misleading and without him it makes it more difficult to realize how the artist was interpreting the anthropomorphization

it's kind of obvious they weren't thinking about race considering everyone's skin color and hair color matches the color palette they're given in the movie

it's a pretty easy transition considering everyone in the picture (and pumba) have fur colors that can also be skin colors -- simba has light skin because he has light fur and there's no evidence that the reasoning digs deeper than that

I love that people are saying that they're African lions, ergo they should be African race, yet no-one thinks it's weird that the aforementioned African lions (and other animals) don't have African accents in the actual film. If Disney can interpret African animals as having mostly American/British accents then I think we can forgive humanised versions as being whatever race the artist wants to make them too.

Yeah, I mean, on the one hand, I can totally see, say, Zazu being white. Making one or two characters white isn't enough to earn my disapproval.

But I, too, can't stand all the fanart that makes everyone white, or most characters white, even the ones voiced by black actors. Especially if they justify it with bullshit like "WELL SIMBA IS ORANGE" or "IF YOU SHAVE A LION THEY'RE PINK" (what the fuck?)

Am I racist? Nah.

I love men with lighter complexions. Light skin has just always been more attractive to me. *Shrugs* There ARE quite a lot of hot dark guys, don't get me wrong (Louis Cordice, Charles Divins, Shemar Moore, Michael Ealy, Columbus Short, etc), but for the most part I'm attracted to guys with light complexions (fair to a light brown). *Shrugs*

I don't think I'm racist at all. I have lots of friends who are Black, not to mention family members with dark skin (I myself am a medium shade of brown-- probably only a shade or two darker than Michael Ealy). Very dark skin just isn't what I'm attracted to.

Ironically, though, I do love painting women with dark complexions. I don't even know.

I think the race argument is insanely stupid. Okay, so they're African animals...Does that mean all North American animals should be Native American? Does that make anyone who draws a white tailed deer or a black bear as anything but a Native American racist?

There were a lot of Caucasians VAs for the LK characters, it makes sense in my mind. They're lions and equating them to humans is extremely silly.
