It's like it's own superdeformed parody. I like it.

This. I still laughed at the secret. And it reminds me of when I did some RPs on LJ and sometimes the characters I played had to interact with each other. That was ...interesting. I think it would get boring really quick.

Er, I love the Wizard of Oz, but Mary Poppins is definitely way more substantive and "adult" (which, btw, are two separate qualities) than Oz, particularly wrt the Banks' family dynamics. I really don't see how Mary Poppins is more kid-focused -- how? The main characters of Mary Poppins are the father, Mary, and Bert. The kids' role in that movie is much more focused on facilitating the general plot and the arcs of other characters and storylines than Wizard of Oz, which is all about Dorothy's personal story, so Oz is far more kid-focused, even though Jane and Michael are younger than Dorothy.

I mostly spell things wrong because words randomly stop looking right on me. This is a much better reason.

I had a lot of fun trawling youtube when I realised DeForest Kelley was in a lot of westerns back in the day. Damn, but he does look good in period dress.

Well, IDK if I'll be able to explain it better than your teacher did, but it is essentially a way to make the integration process faster by replacing a part of the function with u, differentiating this part and subsequently writing both dx and the function in terms of u (and du). You just make it look simpler in order to understand what integration rule is applicable. Say, if you have (2x+3)^3, then you let 2x+3 be u; hence du/dx is 2; dx=du/2; 1/2 int(u^3du)= you integrate it in the regular way and get shit done. It can be more complicated with more complex functions, but that's the basic mechanism.

I don't actually agree that the Steve and Tony scenes were trying to build up the similarities between Tony and Loki. That's not how that read to me, although I know that is how it was for a lot of fans which is fine.

But no it's not near as random, I do agree.

It is kind of perplexing how it seems to be treated almost like a canon pairing.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you OP. River and the Doctor bugged me so much in that episode. The Doctor treating her the way he did and then River basically being like, "This is how our relationship works."

I was going to say this. I'd be super flattered if someone thought some shit I made was so good looking that they wanted to know where I got it (maybe so they could get one for themselves, too). :D Fandom or no, man, last time I went to Ohayocon I didn't know who half of anyone was. I recognized some Homestucks running around but I think at the time I was still calling it Homestruck so who even knows. :P

Fandom is supposed to be fun. If you're having fun? You're doin' fandom right. IMO!

It always cracks me up that Jean-Luc has a perfect British accent but is supposed to be French. Given that an accent is one of the hardest things to cast off, language teaching methods must be greatly improved.

This might be a stupid question, but how did you go from du/dx=2 to dx=du/2?

Like, how did you decide that it was du/dx?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer the old Teen Titans myself, and the comics even more than that. But I love their take on Robin a lot more than the old one but I totally have a weak spot for watching it for Starfire. After how they ruined her in the new 52, it's a nice reminder how much I used to like her.

What fandoms are getting tired of?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I can name a few that I'm getting sick of, but can't leave yet because 1) Not done yet 2) I've been so committed for so long. How about you guys?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
not op.

it's easier to resent a fictional character than a person who's in front of you.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you need to tell your SO to cool it? We all have celeb crushes and it's normal to talk about in relationships, but if it's excessive and to the point that it's making you uncomfortable, maybe you need to have a chat about it.

Not quite the same, but I only listen to Leonard Cohen when it rains.

but no porn, please? Porn just doesn't do it for me. (fics with non-plot-relevant porn is fine, though- I can just skip it.)

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? The whole 'he's a full-tilt diva' thing, the name written on the sky, Steve very kindly declining to comment. How did that scan for you?

Not slamming you, by the way. I'm just wondering how you interpreted that if the Tony-Loki thing wasn't in it.

It really is one of the most blatant two-white-dudes MUST SHIP pairings I've seen.

This is exactly my reaction to it (also, they have little to no canon personality, so they're even easier to self-insert/manipulate for the shippers).

(then again, I really can't throw stones with all my crossover femslashing)

I think once upon a time it did care. It started as a niche network as part of the BBC overseas franchise. Then it realized it was bleeding money because the ratings weren't up to par. Apparently, Americans only like certain British shows and could not give a large enough flip about whether or not someone from Leeds finds an antique in their attic to auction off in order to pay for their holiday to the seaside. So, they switch to shows that would give it the ratings to allow them to air shows like Doctor Who and create new shows like Ripper Street.

In short, BBCAmerica started off as a nice enough dream but Reality is a cruel mistress with a mean right hook.

Aw. I only got 2. :( Shame on me, shame on my bookmarks, shame on my ~lifetime of fanfic reading.

Wrong, it's entirely realistic. This is just another masterful aspect of Star Trek's perfectly-depicted future history. Clearly Britain conquered France sometime during the Eugenics Wars, and in the general devastation, French language and culture disappeared and were replaced by British norms. Obviously.

I can't believe that you would imply that anything in Star Trek is unrealistic, poorly-thought-out, or poorly researched. It's literally perfect in every way. Obviously they thought this through and it's just one more strand in the rich tapestry of Star Tre- bahahahahaha sorry I couldn't keep it up
