Stop reading the Big Two comics and start reading the independent/creator-owned stuff. I'm a big fan of Invincible, for example.

It makes sense to fall out of interest in something, especially something that long-running (and, as someone who just got into comics, good god is it expensive).

Going off of what dethtoll said, how about trying new stuff? Since you used Deadpool in your pic, if you like Marvel and you haven't given the current run of Hawkeye a shot yet, you should. I also tend to like stuff of Vertigo like Fables, which is pretty good in its own right (though, in it's own way, rehashing of other stories).

Sounds like all your read is superhero comics, which I could understand gets a bit samey after a while. So branch out! Check out comics from other countries, old/obscure/independent titles, etc.

"Grow out of" is perhaps not the phrase I would have chosen but there's nothing inherently wrong with not being interested in something anymore. It happens, people change. Nothing to feel ashamed or bad about

(that said, as others have said, I'd say it is worth checking out independent / non-superhero comics, because they are rad)

Well, I took up the mantle for you, then.

After having been a big X-men fan in the 1980s (I even cosplayed as Phoenix :p), not long ago I started picking up Demon Knights (thanks for that goes to Noodly)

For what it's worth, I'm largely in the same boat. My thing is that I have to know that they're building to something, that there's going to be a payoff at the end. Which is why I tend to stick to limited series, all-ages comics, and some of Geoff Johns' work (I know a lot of people don't like him, but his stuff does tend to have a number of concrete "season finales")

Also the movies and TV shows based on the same properties.

[personal profile] unicornherds 2013-05-13 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Been there. I had to stop buying due to financial reasons and I was sadly surprised how little I noticed the lack.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-13 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest I kind of feel that way as well. It's harder for me to be emotionally invested in comics anymore aside from a few exceptions like Locke & Key. :/

(Anonymous) 2013-05-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It happens. After a point there's not much originality to offer somebody who's been around the block. But your life is moving on and being filled with other things from the sound of it so it's not like there's a void left behind. Either keep an eye out for the few things that go outside the lines now and then, or just take a break and come back to it later when maybe things would have changed enough not to bore you.

Big fat Indie Rec's (Edit: /co/ helps!) BIG ASS PICTURE

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-05-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's a list with almost nothing from Marvel Or DC, and the things that were are all completed. Might rekindle your love, or give you some more varied reading at least. Most of these come with a beginning and an end, or at least an implied one in the future! (cept maybe walking dead).

My personal favorites (some on the list below, some not)

Prophet,
Saga,
Umbrella Academy,
I Kill Giants
Invincible
Locke and Key,
Preacher,
Transmetropolitan,
Y the Last Man,
Walking Dead
Stuff of legend
The Goon.

Especially Saga and Locke and Key! Though none of those are anything but great. (I think preacher is the weakest but still think it's good)

Edit: I put this up on /co/. Called you a friend, friend. But this is pretty much what that corner of 4chan lives for, so there'll be some good shit up there as long as the thread survives. Seriously, not a troll or nothing. We live for this.

http://boards.4chan.org/co/res/49541895

HERE'S THE BIG ASS LIST! (there's more narrorow lists on the thread)

I know I know, a few on here like watchmen, Lucifer and Madame Xanadu doesn't really count, but it also kinda does.

Warnings:
Jimmy Corrigan is possibly the most depressing thing I've ever written

Cerberus is long, and the first part is amazing, but it gets super misogynistic towards the end when the author goes insane. If you look into it you'll find plenty of sources that tell you where to stop.

I was into American comics in the 90's. I lost interest and dropped them until just a couple years ago when the MCU started up and I picked up some TPBs. Now I have a box at my LCS.

So, who knows? You might just need a break.

Atomic Robo is a powerful restorative. I might also suggest Perhapanauts.

But seriously, there's something about Atomic Robo. It's kind of perfect, it's kind of new, it's kind of fun, and it's kind of clearly its creators.

I'd read some graphic novels before, but I was never really interested in comic books. Then the MCU came out and I got interested. Thankfully, because I started so late, there is a lot of good stuff for me to catch up on and so much of it I can get from my library, so I don't have to pay more than a hold fee. I can understand feeling like it gets repetitive and not wanting/being able to pay for it. Maybe you'll get interested in it again later. Maybe not. It happens.

We all grow out of things, it's just something that happens. I was totally into anime and at one point was like "I'm going to love anime forever and EVER." Well, that didn't happen. I can still enjoy a good anime now and again, but I'm not nearly as obsessive about the culture and the shows as I used to be. I still adore Japan and want to keep learning the language but more for myself rather than just so that I can watch anime without subtitles.

Don't feel bad.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2013-05-14 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you. I've given up on a business model that depends on throwing all of the characters into a blender every 24 months or so to sell a big "event," killing off characters to be edgy, and then rewriting them a year later with a "fresh" creative team. And my reading list is too deep right now to make room for much in the way of independent graphic novel releases.

My Recs:

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Read Warren Ellis. Anything by Warren Ellis, You wont go far wrong. He's been my go-to guy since I got fed up with the standard cape comics.
A great free comic can be read here: http://www.freakangels.com/?p=23

Also, maybe give Brian K. Vaughan a shot. 'Y the last man' and 'Ex Machina'

Finally, I've found myself really into the 'Criminal' series' by Ed Brubaker of late.

I feel the same, I'm not sure if it's because recent DC editorial decisions killed my desire for the whole catalog or if it's a permanent thing.

I've actually gotten a bit burnt out on comics myself. I still read several titles, but whereas in the past I tried to follow most of Marvel's mainstream titles (not DC because I don't touch Nu52), now I've pretty much dropped stuff like The Avengers** and the big X-Men titles and just keep up with a few single character and team book faves.

**Except for Avengers Assemble because it's GLORIOUS.

It's not even a quality thing. I just don't have enough interest to read anything but my absolute favorite titles.

The few big two books that I'd REALLY recommend are- Captain Marvel, Avengers Assemble, Hawkeye, and Fearless Defenders. For DC the only ones I'd really pimp are Batwoman and Sword of Sorcery (which was just cancelled).

A lot of independent ones have just been mentioned, but I'd also like to pimp Brian Wood's Mara! It's fantastic.

That being said I dislike the term 'grow out'. It implies a level of maturity has been reached by... reading comics any longer.

There's nothing wrong with outgrowing something as long as you don't condescend to the people who are still into it.

And if you are going to try something non-superhero, Love and Rockets. It's the only English-language comic I really love.

There's nothing wrong with stepping back now and then from comics. God knows I've done it when things get particularly samey. But there's nothing that says you can't come back one day.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
There's fantastic comics being produced that you're not reading! Try reading Chew, Saga, Unwritten, Locke and Key, Skullkickers, Morning Glories, Bravest Warriors, Mara, The Goon, Empowered...

There are plenty of great comics that don't involved brightly-colored people hitting each other!

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way anon. It's not that I don't like the characters any more, but it's as if I've already read everything before.
Also the events and crossovers really suck IMO.

I'm reading more independent/ creator owned comics now and I have to say I really like those!
