Little fandom opinions that are too minor or uncontroversial to submit as secrets

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Post your random fandom-related opinions here, ones that you'd like to air out and discuss, but which you never submitted as a secret because it wasn't a big enough deal. Go!

Right now I'm slightly annoyed with fics that depict first-time penetrative sex as overwhelming painful like it's a given. It's not usually, if you are aroused and/or prepared well enough.

I'm a little sad that the name A Song of Ice and Fire has been mostly replaced by Game of Thrones. I'm just used to calling it by the original name of the series since I started reading the books back in high school.

I really dislike the way some people in the Homestuck fandom seem to find Kruloz<>Mituna cute.

Early Edition

I hate that I can't find any Chuck/Gary pining fic in what amounts to the Early Edition fandom. Or any Chuck/Gary, actually.

Also, I started watching this show after the Chuck years, but now that I've seen the Chuck years, I really resent the loss. Fisher Stevens is a strange sort of awesome.

I am sad by how disappointed I have become with Welcome to Night Vale (but happy that I found a different podcast that is what I wanted it to be).

I just want an old school fukufic with none of this trying to get clever about SJ stuff.

Also I miss Golden Age science fiction stories where robots were helpful and humanity was all hopeful about automation.

I absolutely loved Frozen, but Let it Go might have been my least favorite sequence, oops. I thought there were really beautiful parts to it, but I'm not as jazzed about the song and the whole sequence (especially the first half) as everyone else seems to be.

Also I liked Elsa but I preferred the other main characters to her.

I love Samurai Flamenco. I haven been so much into a show in a while.

But the fandom. Oh my, the fandom.
I wish it was bigger just to avoid certain people, but since it's so small I end seething hours after every new episode.

I'm really annoyed at Sherlock Holmes fans who try to insist that various little parts of Elementary/BBC/Ritchie is exactly like canon. Not so much the fact that they're usually transparently twisting facts for their own benefit, but also 1. "canon" is very subjective due to the way the stories are framed, so in a looooooot of cases, "this COULD be canon" =/= "this IS canon"; and 2. why is it assumed that more similar to canon = better, just ipso facto?

Derek Hale's eye color can be described as either green or hazel. Not blue, gray, indecipherable or multi-colored. And don't get me started on the descriptions of Stiles' eye color :/

I have more for other fandoms, I just can't think of any right now.

I don't get the appeal of coffee-shop AUs, and would actually prefer coffee-shop-that's-actually-a-speakeasy-during-prohibition-era-America AUs

I find Beyonce's music is "meh" at best, and all the hype about her being OMGSOPERFECT to be annoying and repetitive.

When I first watched Castle, I thought Ryan and Esposito were actually supposed to be a gay cop couple. Don't ask why.

Since watching the series, I like their dynamic too much to want anything romantic between them. (Not that it's possible now anyway.) They're my OTP for friendships.

I really dislike how MCU fics keep being written like they're in the comic settings, even though the characters are nothing like the comics and the authors usually read few or none of them.

i.e. the superheroes all living together and fighting massive disasters in New York on a regular basis, Thor and the Asgardians being gods instead of ancient aliens, innocent and patriotic Steve, etc.

The things I liked most about the movies was the way they shifted away from some of the broader and abstract/universe-specific/Marvel-centric aspects and brought it into the "real world", i.e. Asgardians being ancient aliens instead of gods, not too many superheroes, disasters being spread across multiple areas instead of just New York and being Big Deals instead of some kind of regular occurrence, more military involvement, etc. And don't get me started on naive and innocent Steve. -_- Did these people watch the same movie I did? Where do they get the impression Steve is a True Patriot who trusts and believes in his government and never swears? WHERE?!

I worry Mad Men fans who make sexist comments got into the show because they were a bit too comfortable with the (intentional and time appropriate) sexism in the first place. :/

I miss the first season of Zombies, Run! when there wasn't a single defined villain. I still love the game and the characters, but Van Ark just bored me.

I sometimes feel like my friends dumped me because I didn't want to RP smut with them. I know it's probably irrational, but I can't help but feel they thought I was too vanilla for them.

I know, nonny, why would you want friends who behave like teenagers in the fist place.

It seems to be MLP day, so I'll do an MLP mini.

I love the relationships between the Mane Six, and I think all of them have at least a little chemistry with each other. I follow a few writers who're really devoted to one ship, and while I read their fics, I don't "headcanon" that one is the One True Ship of MLP--I like the idea that they're all equally "real."

I wish people would not pitch shows by saying "all the major characters are queer!" when the truth is that the extent of their canon queerness is an absence of explicit straight-cis-ness.

I'm only capable of writing/drawing fanfiction or fanart of my favorite fanfictions, and I struggle with doing the same with canon.

I think I'm doing fandom wrong (still enjoying it, though, but you know, I can't help but think I'm doing it wrong)

The F!S index updates too slowly and is frustratingly incomplete so I've started working on my own version.

From what I have seen here and on my friend's list, this appears to be an unpopular opinion, but I actually like most of what I've seen of Korra. I think there are still a handful of episodes I haven't seen, but I've seen most of them, and while I didn't so much care for the (what did somebody call it a few posts back: the love rectangle or something LOL?) love triangle, but I loved all the episodes about the origins of the Avatar and I loved all the episodes that explored what Ang was like as a dad. I actually like that he wasn't Saint Daddy Ang to all his kids. I like that all three of him had different experiences of him as a father; that seems true to life to me. I don't think the show implies that he was a bad dad at all; I do think it implies that Tenzin was kinda clueless. IDK I liked it.

Bradley Cooper will always be Will to me.
