I tried to like this show, I really did. I kept hearing people call it the new X-Files and whatnot before it aired. I just couldn't keep interested passed the first few episodes. It's so...bland to me. I think if Abbie had been white, the show would have already been canceled. The only good things about that show is the diversity, and it's sad that the fandom is so shitty about it.

But Ichabbie is a better ship name than Ikatrina. Ikatrina sounds like some sort of fancy-schmancy Apple product that hipsters love, whereas Ichabbie sounds like it should be a synonym for "gross".

Proof:

"Your brother needs to stop chewing with his mouth open, it's really ichabbie."

"I hate it when my dog eats her own poop! It's so ichabbie!"

"Dude, did you see what she was wearing? It was ichabbie as hell!"

Given the choice between hipster-bait Apple product and gross-but-funny-sounding word, I'll take the gross-but-funny-sounding word.

It is becoming creepy how certain parts of fandom are raving about Abbie only because she is black. Not because the character is well developed or the actress has the ability to create chemistry with anyone or anything but because YAY! WOMAN OF COLOR ON PRIME TIME NETWORK TELEVISION!

I feel sorry for Nicole Beharie because she has probably worked her ass off to be where she is today. Forget because she's a woman and black but because she's an actress. And the majority of actresses never make it. But to be reduced to a "person of color" and not a good actress is kind of racist in itself. And if I were her, I would insulted.

I just wish people would stop trying to convince themselves she's SECRETLY EVIL or something. Her bad crafting skills aside, I really don't think the writers are going there, and for fuck's sake, she's not even THAT big a threat to your OTP (she's trapped in a Purgatory!). Get over yourselves.

It really saddens me about all the hypocrisy that's being stirred up. I mean everyone loves that Ichabod is so 'old fashioned' gentleman but yet they want him to be with Abbie?

That makes no sense because part of that 'old fashioned' upbringing is remaining FAITHFUL to your spouse. As far as the series has implied Katrina isn't actually dead but banished (and to Ichabod she hasn't been gone at all - its so rude they want him 'to move on' when, to him, he saw before waking up in today's time).

I think Katrina's usually boring and I ship Ich/Abbie to death but I don't hate Katrina and I don't understand why she's so hated.

I had no opinion of her in the early episodes, but the last few made me start actively liking her. She finally got interesting, with some actual characterization instead of just being "Ms. Exposition ghost." Now that we've started to see her as a person, who struggles, makes mistakes and hard decisions, I think the fandom is starting to warm up to her. (I think half the reason a lot of people wanted her to be evil was because it would have made her very bland character actually interesting.)

Secret 6 - Sleepy Hollow (2013 TV series)

The way Katrina is treated by the fandom has turned me off the show completely. I don't even really like her character and ship Ichabbie, but the vitriol tossed her way is disgusting.

Secret 1: Katrina wouldn't be this hated if Abbie wasn't the second coming because of her skin colour. I get it, there aren't enough Women of Color in media, but Abbie is not the best thing since sliced cheese.
Secret 2: If Abbie was white, there would be more canon (Ikatrina) shippers.
Secret 3: I think Ichabod loves his wife and I think Katrina loves her husband.

I agree about Abbie tbh (and I am a WOC). I dislike this tendency to worship POCs in works of media solely because of ~representation. Like yeah, OK, seeing yourself in the works you consume is great, but JUST because someone "looks like you" doesn't mean you're going to identify with them. Like, one of my all-time favourite characters is Hermione Granger precisely because she represents me to a T. I too was the overachieving one in school who loved to read and knowing every answer and handing in assignments early and who got depressed when she got anything less than a perfect score and THAT is something so rare to see represented in film, TV or literature that if characters like her suddenly started popping up in all the shows I love and they were all white, I would be ecstatic and would not give two shits. I mean, what is the point of seeing thousands of Hispanic characters if none of them are going to represent me as a person and embody the personality traits I identify with?

TL;DR I find the "representation" argument a hollow one.

Katrina has just been poorly written (and acted) so... it's not really her fault. Hopefully they'll step up or something on both fronts. Her chemistry is also really awful with Ichabod.

I LIKE Sleep Hollow, but I'm not rushing to watch it when it comes on TV or anything. It's a pleasant enough distraction but it's not the end all and be all of TV shows.

I think the show is fun. I kind of ship Ichabbie in the way down the line after things have settled (because at this point I'm pretty sure Katrina's not going to be reunited with Ichabod) and the fact that he clearly adores her.

I don't hate Katrina at all but I also don't think the writers utilized her very well. She pops up in dreams every now and then... um okay? She feels more like a plot device than a character at this point.

I think hating on either of the characters because of ship is pretty dumb. But I can understand not liking Katrina all that much and I wish the knee jerk reaction wasn't to think we're pitting her against Abbie.

I will admit that Katrina is not as well developed a character as the Mills' sisters, but I admire her love and devotion to her husband and his to her. I ship both Ichabod/Katrina and Ichabod/Abby but I'm waiting for Katrina to come out of purgatory so they can have a threesome.

I agree about the hate being a turn off to the show. I'm not usually a person who only ships canon pairs, but when it comes to Ichabod and Katrina, I am. Granted, I don't watch the show so I don't know if the comments I've seen about Katrina or the actors' chemistry is valid.

But every week I see people saying really awful things and it just makes me a little bit more glad that I don't watch the show or interact with the fandom, because based on the book and movie canons, I would be an Ichabod/Katrina shipper.

I think Ichabod/Abbie as friends is awesome.

I find it hilarious, though, that people in comments are whining about how 'everybody just likes Abbie 'cause she's black'. Yeah, sure, whatever.

Got nothing to do with an excellent actress in an interesting role who plays her part very well, with a great supporting cast around her. (Yes, i think the show's awesome, so sue me.)

What I really love is all the people going "WHY IS KATRINA EVEN ON THIS SHOW." Because she was in the original story, idiots. Katrina Van Tassel.

Also: "WHY IS KATRINA RICH. SHE IS A QUAKER." There were plenty of rich Quakers. And because she was rich in the original story, idiots. Katrina Van Tassel. Who was a Dutch patrician's daughter. A very rich Dutch patrician's daughter.

I just don't give a shit about her. EVERYTHING she does is centered around
Ichabod. Her backstory, her helping them, it's all about Ichabod. I want it all about KATRINA, not her husband.

Plus I just find her too bland and boring compared to Abbie. and I HOPE this stuff dealing with her and her kid are over, for now at least. I just want more misadventures with Ichabod and Abbie, her calling him out on some of his unintentional bullshit, more Irving and Jenny, and more Henry Parish.

Fuck Katrina, at least until the show treats her better.
