Re: Weird romantic question

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's more the opposite issue, really. I feel like I'm MORE interested than I otherwise might be. Like, I'm convinced that there's something forced about my attraction to her, maybe it's just because she's queer and I haven't been with anyone in a while, and that's why I don't want to do this? It doesn't really make any sense but I can't shake that feeling. That's why I feel weird about it, I guess. I haven't felt like I think there would be something that wouldn't work between us because of her... like I said, the attraction is only getting stronger.

Unfortunately, casual sex isn't really something I'm into at this point in my life. :\

Time and again you prove that America and Americans exist for you only so you can be reassured that there's someplace in the world that's even worse than where you live. I'm very sorry you hate the UK so much that reminding Americans of the the worst their country is capable of doing to them comforts you. I used to listen to people like you and live in fear as an American, but I learned to overcome it. I hope you do too.

ayrt

Ooh, I'd seen a little of that person's Sauron art, but not all of it. You're right, that's fantastic.

I think I looked at the 'mairon' tag once and resolved never to go there again.

Oh god, that one scene has always hit me hard - even before I wore glasses [probably because breaking glasses has always somehow come across as a very symbolic thing so...yeah.]

Haha, I think I've heard that before. I wonder how many people were instantly turned off without knowing that.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I get you, OP. It makes me wince both because...well. Yeah, I need glasses. I'd probably be able survive semi-okay since my perscription is weird and one eye is decent and makes up for the one that's borderline legally blind. But also because glasses being broken has always been symbolic for all hope being lost - at least to me.

So it's a kind of one-two punch for me there, and I hate it.

Re: Stargate SG1

I don't think Jack called them rocks that often. I remember it happening every so often, but it wasn't a constant thing.

I think other teams had other specialties, though I suspect that they were probably cross trained to an extent. Ex.There was one team that was regularly mentioned to be ~ready to go in after~ SG-1 but I don't think they ever were actually sent on screen. At least, they weren't often, but "Going after other teams" wasn't their main job, iirc.

I also know that there was a named team [I want to say SG-2? But there's a very good chance I'm wrong on the name - it's been a few years] that was generally sent in after SG-1 to handle the details of actually setting up agreements and the diplomacy type stuff.

Basically what the anon replied. You don't have to draw a masterpiece of digital art or write a 60k epic fic (although you can try a drabble, I think) - all it takes is just a tiny piece of text, a question, a bit of meta. Possibly accompanied by a gif if this is a visual thing. Or link an interview with the writers, actors, what have you. Make one of those question memes.

I'm a bit tired of people sitting back and complaining about the content of their fandom tag and using the "I can't do anything" excuse. Everyone can do something.

/this is not really related to the OP of this secret since they're already doing that

Re: Weird romantic question

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
None of my past relationships have been able to translate back into friendships. We always said we'd stay friends, but... it never actually happens, it's always too awkward. So I guess I'm worried about that, yeah. My past relationships were started by the other person, too, so this would be new territory for me, I guess.

I said it upthread, but I'm starting to think maybe part of the feeling comes from the fact that I've been single for a while now and she's one of the only single queer women I know, so part of me keeps worrying that's fueling the attraction instead of something real. So, arbitrary, I guess. You're right though, it isn't like it makes no sense to see where it goes. I just don't feel like I should.

Cats, but only by a tiny, tiny bit.
I own and use both so...neither?
Pixar is a part of Disney. So, by picking Pixar you *are* picking Disney.
Coke - my father works for them, and they helped pay for my education.
Um...Neither. I don't really read their comics.

Neither.
Neither

Re: Possible wank inducer? Still "interesting" though

Last week on this very community, I pointed out that men are much more likely to be victims of murder than women are. One commenter said that those stats didn't count unless they analyzed how many of those male murder victims were criminals, and thus basically asking for it, unlike any female murder victims.

The way we talk about murder in this society is, in fact, weirdly gendered. It's just also more complicated than people want to admit.

Okay, I get what you're saying, but it's important to pay attention to the historical context there. Back then, women were only seen as valuable/good potential for a wife if they were virgins. Whether you consented to losing your virginity or not didn't matter to the people. So, if a woman was no longer a virgin, she had little to no chance of a man wanting to marry her. (This applied to widows as well.) Because not a virgin = tainted in their eyes.

This was also a time when women could not work and take care of themselves or their families. But their husband would be able to provide for them and keep them safe. Things have changed since then, obviously, but at the time, all God was doing was ensuring that the woman would be taken care of. Marrying your rapist must not have been a very happy fate, but some of the women most likely preferred it to never being married, because of what that meant in their society.

God couldn't just say "Don't rape" and end it with that, because there are some people who know it's wrong and are just going to do it anyway. But he could give many men an incentive not to even consider it, and make sure that the women had someone to take care of them in case it happened.

If he'd been being mean to Tony, he wouldn't have told him to put on the suit before he got his richly-deserved asskicking.

No, he dumped you for not faking like the other girls.

He might have thought differently, but really, that's why. If he thinks it's normal for women to not need clitoral stimulation he was either really inexperienced or a deluded idiot (it sounds like the latter).

There's a difference between bemoaning the loss of their potential because they chose to do something horrible to another person and threw their human decency away, and bemoaning the loss of their potential because they got caught. The media can walk a very fine line depending on how they phrase things.
