(Not OP) Surprisingly little. You'd think there would be a massive Harry/Peter fanbase, but no.

I think there's some on tumblr? I've seen gifsets and things here and there.

Honestly, I've been avoiding seeing this movie and I know others who have been to, mostly because the reception hasn't been great. So that's part of it, I think (though that hasn't stopped fandom before!).

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-05-18 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't be bothered with the second movie, though I liked the first one. But I'll watch it if it has some fandom potential.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't understand that attitude : doing things because there might be a fandom you can participate into.

I heard the movie was bad and that word of mouth quickly shot it down. It's a "wait until it comes out on DVD" type deal. Worse, that no one character stood out and made an impression like the way Mako or Newt did in Pacific Rim or Loki did in the Thor movies. So, there is no one that the fandom wants to latch onto and do a million fan related things for.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's way better than the original trilogy ever was, and we get characters acting like, well, characters. It always feels like people are pissed we don't have the ~OMG popular~ villains out in the forefront, or that our hero doesn't spent 99% of the time angsting. :/ The villains are rounded people with actual fucking backstory outside of being the Goblin and Doc Oc.

Huh, I really liked it! It wasn't quality, I suppose, but the acting was decent and it was entertaining throughout. Then again, I hate the MCU movies except for Captain America, so maybe my taste just isn't good.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Spider-Man, I read the comics and the novels, I've seen all the various cartoon versions, and I've watched all the movies. ASM2 is the weakest movie of the five. It had all sorts of pacing issues. Gwen died needlessly. (On one hand, she had to die because comics, on the other hand, they made such a mess of other important stuff that they could have gotten around it.) ASM2 Peter is less likeable than pretty much every other version of Peter ever. Also, Harry was too weirdly slimy to be a fandom darling -- and fandom has terrible tastes, so that's pretty impressive.

There were positives about the movie, especially for fans willing to project what they knew about Peter from other canons onto this less fleshed out Peter, but overall the Spider-Man fandom has plenty of more appealing versions of their hero to enjoy, and so you'll find them settled happily in existing corners of fandom, reading, writing, and making art about other versions of these characters.

SPOILER WARNING PLEASE? Not everyone's read the comics series it was based off. God. Did not want to know that.

Less likable than the last Spider-man movie Spider-man. Uh-huh.

Sure.

Keep fapping to him.

you really have a weird idea of what fleshed out means if you think asm spider-man is less fleshed out than sm movie trilogy peter

That's because the movies both sucked balls, and, unlike the crappier MCU movies, they didn't even have charming main characters or a sense of a shared universe to back them up.

Just from the commercials, I found Harry weirdly off-putting.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I like Andrew Garfield, but he needs to stop playing a teenage character.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The movie was surprisingly bad and forgettable, so I would be more surprised if there was an active fandom.

Personally I didn't like it very much so my interest in searching for a fandom(or participating in it) for the Amazing Spiderman universe is zero. I did vaguely ship Harry/Electro but not enough to want fic.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
My impression as someone outside the fandom is that the film was mostly popular with teenage boys. So...uh...fanfiction.net?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I've found that most people who don't like it adored the original trilogy. Which... I, personally, hated. The villains felt flat there. Here I can actually identify them as, you know, people first who happen to BECOME villains.

Also Gwen does way more than MJ ever fucking did, which is a great thing. Fuck the original trilogy's MJ. At least Gwen has a fucking life outside Peter and is successful in it, and Peter turns to her because she's actually fucking useful.

Can we get a reboot for this reboot already? And this time hire a GODDAMN New Yorker to play the classic New York superhero. I am tired of no one feeling like Peter Parker. He's a kid from Queens. He should feel like a kid from Queens. Yes, I know there is a thing called acting. But they never get it right. It's not like NYC isn't full of struggling actors who are drooling at the chance to play him.

I think I'm just tired of Spiderman movies, tbh. I didn't even particularly like the first trilogy but when I saw “There's going to be a new Spiderman!” my first thought was, “Why? Already?”

I mean, I don't hate the new movies or begrudge the fans them or anything, and honestly, I even saw the first one and was pleasantly surprised because it was better than expected, but I don't have any enthusiasm for them.

Not sure why they aren't getting fic though, because even movies that don't do great at the box office usually get some small measure of fandom. Maybe it's around but small?

1. i heard from multiple sources that it was bad so i'm not really leaping at the chance to see it in theaters
2. ca:tws probably stole a lot of potential fandom. it sucks that they released these two movies so close together.

Am I the only one who liked this movie?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-05-19 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be the first to agree the movie had a lot of problems, but I didn't think it was this unpopular. o.O If nothing else, I would think DeHann's Harry and the Harry+Peter chemistry would have appealed to fandom. :(

It's because both those movies are terrible.
