I'm so tired of shows "saving peoples lives". Come on.

And music. That's worse.

26. ...and now I think I'm going to cry.

7. Blame Freud.

Anyway, gen with romantic interludes is the way to go for me. I don't object to slash, but I think that like a lot of fanfiction it tends to have more to do with self-indulgent emotional gratification than anything else. And before I get wanked off the planet, yes, there are good slashfics out there and, no, my own stories aren't completely free of the emotional-box-of-chocolates syndrome either. But I make an effort to keep it in check.

Augh, they made a comm for just RP secrets. And here I was hoping that the anti-RP-secret brigade would shut up and let the rest of us read them along with the other secrets. Guess you can't have too much faith, can you?

1) You are NOT alone. I loved Tamers! I get so mad when people say they hated it. People always seem to react badly the first time a series switches to alternate continuities.
7) That's why I only ship canon.
15) That is amazing. And yes, he needs less pressure. I feel bad for him. ^^;
21) Oh, word.
not!secret3) As someone that did that in her shameful Mary Sueing past, I agree completely.
not!fandom2) That's terrible.

1) SO MUCH WORD. The third season was so much better than any of the others. Except maybe season 1. That season was cool. Season 2 was just retarded. Season 3 was definitely the most interesting. IMHO.

7) Fandom just needs to relax in general about the shipping stuff... If you don't like incest and slash, no one should be calling you names for it. And vice versa. :/

21) Marry me.

26) And that's why SquareEnix is so rich.

Fandom saved my life

[identity profile] thanatoast.livejournal.com 2007-12-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I right out refuse to believe that fandom/a TV show/movie/book can save anyone's life. Never literally and probably not figuratively either. Bullshit.

But who knows? Maybe they skipped work to watch Bleach on the day of a HORRIBLE TEN-CAR PILE-UP or something.

Pish. Tamers is only the best over 30-episode show I've ever watched, live or animated. Too bad I can barely convince people to watch Avatar in the first season, much less sink into the world of DT.

21. Ahhhh old school Final Fantasy. ♥ That top row of sprites pretty much just made my night.

38. I... don't think you are? I thought the entire point of the last chapter (I'm going by manga canon here), particularly the final few pages, were to show that their naivete and innocence had essentially been destroyed by the game. Noriko's eyes were "like looking into a black hole." (Allllso I sort of fail to see how you could like Battle Royale and not like the main characters, all things considered.)

1. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I seriously fucking love Digimon 01 and 02, but my love of Tamers is without equal in Digimon.

23. Weird...

27. You haven't heard the worst cases against her... Seriously, people go so far as to say they hate her because she has pink hair. Wtf.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 12:06 am (UTC)(link)

21. Seriously. I've been playing video games since Pong on Atari and Duck Hunt on the NES and have watched the gaming industry change. And FF was one of the games that paved the way for what we have now. Sure, FFVII is kind of overrated but hating these games is kind of without merit. It seems trendy to hate on the franchise these days.

26. Yeah, I'm kind of shuddering over that. Is nothing sacred? I'm so tired of seeing my favourite video games being redone and raped in the process -- everytime a game is redone they seek to 'improve' the dialogue in the process destroy what was so terribly memorable. Sequels shouldn't be made ... but yeah, I still want to play it.

37. JackxIanto! &hearts

1. I really liked Tamers! Although sad to say, I only saw about half of EACH of the first three series, so I'm not really qualified to compare them.

3. I agree. I mean, I like more complex fiction sometimes too, but escapism has its place for me.

5. Don't worry! That kind of stuff happens to everyone. I missed some of the most obvious names in Shadow Hearts: Covenant when I was playing it in Japanese. At least you stopped when you realized it was meant to be "Light"? (I don't get why people persist in it when they know that's not the name the writer intended. But then, "Raito" just looks strange to me, so I never really cared for it. ^^;;; )

8. I loved that game! I have some fond memories attached to it. I'm glad it helped you and I hope you're doing better today.

14. Thank you for remembering to check this game out. I saw the website and thought the artwork was beautiful, but then, sadly, I forgot all about it. I usually get money for Christmas, so maybe I'll get enough to buy it...:)

22. I loved those books! I knew some Arthurian legends, but I never really got into it until I found that series. (I wish I could remember the squire's name, though--I'm blanking on it! D:)

27. That kind of thing weirds me out too. Not Sakura in particular, but just the general disconnect between a character bashed for falling into stereotypes and the reader's praise of the creator/the series.

28. ...lol, you have a point there, but I'd still prefer LxLight.

30. I...I actually "awwwwed". It reminds me a bit of my sister and me (well, my sister's two years older, and we haven't gone to any cons).

35. This kind of intimidates me, and I'm at BYU, known for the "MRS" degrees. o.O But I think you're right, there are worse reasons.

2. I agree. Oh. Oh how I agree. My flist is increasingly covered in bandom and I have NO IDEA WHY. They are so hideous. ;_:

But I don't really want any part of it. I've always liked music and lyrics for being that. I can't tell you the name of anyone but the lead singer of my favorite band, and I certainly have no interest in writing about them doing anything together. I guess, though, the community and the squee are attractive... too bad they're wasted on this.

21. Can I know my roots but still think the concept and execution of the FF series is boring? Because I kind of really do. Always have, always will.

36. WAIT, THERE'S A FANDOM FOR JONATHAN STRANGE?! Where is it and why don't I know about it!?

Hahaha, oh wow, I do the same thing. When I was in elementary school, I could spend hours fantasizing about my favorite characters becoming violently ill or terribly injured. I've gotten over it by now, mostly, though I still get a thrill out of seeing it happen in canon, or in fic if it's done believably. So don't be too hard on yourself, all right? People write character torture all the time. We hurt the ones we love, hey? You're definitely not alone.

1. I only made it through the first few episodes of Tamers. I was young, and not mature enough to get over the "Omg what no more of the first season cast?!" I felt betrayed, a bit. I don't know, maybe I'll go back and watch all of it sometime. But S1 & 2 were my childhood. Tai/Sora was my first ship, and Ken was my first anime crush.

TL;DR

Anyway,

39. Crap! Darn you for telling me this. I'm going to Notre Dame, too, and now I'm always going to be keeping an eye out for him. I'm not a crazy Emerson fangirl, but I really respect what he's contributed to the fandom. And I think he's pretty attractive (but too young for my tastes).

(Anonymous) 2007-12-16 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
as soon as I got to ND, all my friends back home were like "oh! find Emerson! say hi to him!"

so I looked him up on Facebook, and his profile scared me away. 'course, I was never a Mugglenet kid, but it would still be kinda cool to meet him. I guess. I dunno if he'll still be doing talks and stuff now that the books are done, but the movies are still going, so I'm sure they'll still have the occasional campus event with him as one of the guest speakers.

1. It's not just you! I love Tamers dearly (Takato is probably my favourite Digidestined character out of all the seasons, and Renamon just plain rocks the house), but I've had people look at me like I'm nuts when I say I prefer it to the first two seasons. I liked the first two seasons a lot too, of course, but Tamers is always going to be my favourite.

Tamers fans, unite! ♥

6. I can't really add anything constructive except for Full Moon yay~!

15. Hee hee, that's pretty cool! :) I once looked up YGO: TAS to see what all the hubbub was about, and I spent a whole afternoon going through all the episodes as it was absolutely hysterical XD Tell him good luck and best wishes from all his fans!
