I actually agree with some of the anti-tech stuff that says people use social media as a distraction from their own feelings and make people more self-centered.

Yes. Especially selfies. I can't stand the, "Take selfies! Old rich white men hate them because if you love yourself what can they sell you?"

Well, your cell phone, cameras, makeup, clothes, hair supplies, laptops, photo editing software, internet, etc.

And people don't hate selfies so much as they hate WHEN YOU TAKE AND POST DOZENS A DAY!

Enh, I'm conflicted on it, seeing as social media was how I was able to make friends and develop social skills and eventually come out and get friends OFFline.

That said, one of the reasons I really want to move again is that I don't have many offline friends here, and I don't like how much time I'm spending alone or online.

I agree.

I think it can be a sort of... time sink (for want of a better descriptor) for people with depression and social anxiety and such. It can be a way of avoiding the uncomfortable parts of real life.

I also think certain social media sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. have a lot of appeal for narcissists. It's an instant audience!

I'm getting upset with rants about anti-vaxxers lately. People who write them seem to have stopped caring about the kids who aren't getting vaccinated because their parents are idiots, taking a tone along the lines of "If you want your kids to die of measles, fine, but exposing other kids who can't get vaccinated because they're allergic is unacceptable!" Like, what. Since when is it "fine" that some kids are getting diseases because their parents chose not to vaccinate them? Kids aren't their parents and they don't deserve to die for their parents' mistakes, even if you think the parents deserve it as punishment.

I am so sick of all the tumblr posts talking about how you should boycott it because it is domestic violence or whatnot.

First, the Tumblr audience is full of people who were probably not going to see it anyway. They are those asshles who are all like, "Yeah, we are totally going to boycott this store we have never been to!" And most middleaged housewives don't care about what you think.

Second, it has already sold out in a lot of places. Apparently, the South/Midwest are the people who want to see it the most.

Third, most of the people I have seen reblogging those stupid posts are also into things like Will/Hannibal or Hydra Trash Party. Don't complain about older women enjoying super softcore erotica while you are reblogging posts about how hot it is when Will is having a mental breakdown and Hannibal is "comforting him". Or posts with Bucky being repeatedly raped by Hydra soldiers and commenting about how hot it is.

My unpopular music-related opinions, let me show you them.

- Pop music overall is just as good now as it was in the 90s.
- However, most modern alternative rock is terrible.
- Most indie rock is also terrible.
- Justin Bieber sucks, but he doesn't deserve to die just because he sucks.
- All of Lady Gaga's albums so far have been good. Artpop is just as good as Born This Way, and neither are as good as The Fame/The Fame Monster.
- "Blank Space" is not some brilliant musical breakthrough. It sounds exactly the same as all of Taylor Swift's other hits, except for "Shake It Off", which bizarrely enough sounds more like a Katy Perry song to me.
- Speaking of Taylor Swift, she is neither terrible nor great. She is mediocre at her worst and average at her best.
- Burzum sucks, and this opinion was not in any way influenced by the fact that Varg Vikernes is a muderous psycho. I thought his music sucked BEFORE I found out he was a murderous psycho.
- Speaking of metal, I like Jugulator. It's certainly not my one of my favourite Judas Priest albums, but I don't think it's as bad as everyone says.
- Metallica didn't sell out, they just switched genres. This is not a bad thing at all, so quit whining about it.
- I like Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon equally.
- Amon Amarth is overrated.
- Lorde is also overrated.
- Florence + The Machine does not need to be in every fanmix ever.

I hate most fanmixes, because they're usually either generic love songs or songs that only make sense with the character/pairing if you tilt your head, squint your eyes and ignore half of the lyrics.

Speaking of generic love songs, sometimes I dream of putting together the ultimate cliche fanmix, just because. It would have at least some Florence + the Machine (maybe Cosmic Love), Goo Goo Dolls - Iris, Muse - Undisclosed Desires, perhaps Counting Crows - Accidentally in Love...

Provided you're not disturbing other students, I don't have a problem with you using your phone during class. I don't see college classes as being about learning--it would be way more efficient to buy the textbooks and read them at your own pace. Rather, they're about demonstrating your knowledge level to the teacher and being graded on what you can do. If you think you have the material well in hand, choosing not to listen is your prerogative. Just don't be surprised if you miss something important.

I think that sometimes it is okay to judge someone for their kink. It depends on the context. But if a man likes underage, I definitely judge (or if a woman likes underage where it is the male character who is younger).

I think it's fine to be offended by a piece of media that tries and does great with representation for one group but is shit at it with another. I think it's even fine to be more offended by those than the things that are shit at all representation and don't care. So I get why someone would be unable to watch Agent Carter but still love (for example) Supernatural. But I also think if you feel that way, you have an obligation to either give up watching the zero-representation shows you love, or stick to ways of watching them that don't contribute to their ratings. Otherwise, all the networks are going to see is that people prefer white man shows. They don't give a shit about your complex reasons behind it. And I find it funny that people who say things like "consume media responsibly" are the ones acting like their awareness is the only thing that matters.

I'm honestly glad the Harry Potter fandom is dying. Even though I miss the discussions and all the new fics coming out all the time, I don't miss the crazy. Things seem to have settled down. I still put it in my top five favorite fandoms, and I still read more fics for it than for most other fandoms, but I'm still glad things have quieted down.

I think WOC who get on slash fans' cases for shipping "white dick" are kind of hypocrites.

So some fans ship a white guy with a white guy because they think white dick is hot. There's nothing wrong with that.

If you ship the white dick with your WOC of choice, that's fine. But it doesn't make you better. You're not some poor, oppressed person protecting WOC from those meanie slash fans.

You're just as invested in the white dick as the slash fans. The only difference is that while the slash fans think two white dicks together is hot, you want the white dick for your female avatar because you think that's hot.

Same shit in the end.

Barring a couple of exceptions I just don't care about actors, their lives etc. I don't care if they're playing another role, at a convention, kids, getting married, moving etc. if it's not an interview about their role in a movie and the practical side, I don't give a shit.

(For context, I have never watched Legend of Korra, or Avatar. Tried some first episodes and was bored to tears)

I think the people who says the ending of Korra is invalid because it's badly written is stupid. Does it matter if it's well written or not? The people who are against it are not gonna care about that, all they care about is that they are of the same sex. I'm from a country where the 3 seconds Mitch says about his boyfriend at the end of Paranorman is cut and where majority of comments in an online article about the pride march is "It's okay to be gay but why must you show your gay in public". I'm very happy that a lesbian couple (I know they are bisexual, I'm just talking about their relationship) really happened. Sure they may not be perfectly written but it's still there and who cares about carzy fans on the internet. The ones with the biggest voices and authorities aren't there.

On that note, I think the way they show it is perfect. If it was anymore explicit than that I'm 100% sure it would have been cut (see the Paranorman example above).

Stop doing that. Especially stop dressing them similar, I am completely unable to tell so many of the main characters apart unless they are side-by-side and I think about it carefully and use the process of elimination.
