Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot stand female celebrities who act snarky to interviewers asking about their dresses/jewelry. If you don't want to be asked about skip the red carpet.

It isn't like this is something new. Stop harassing the interviewers for doing their job. If they are not asking off the wall questions like, "What about them boobs of yours?", stick your hand in the manicam and smile.

Also, some designer most likely gave you that dress for free for the SOLE purpose of you promoting it for them. Instead, you are going to act like a dick and ask the interviewer if they do the 360 cam on the guys.

Of course they fucking don't. Who wants to see 40 black and white tuxes?

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think asking about the dress is inappropriate, since a lot of the Oscars... okay, and the film industry in general... is all about presentation.

But ridiculous makeup questions or "what did you do to get ready for today" nonsense, shut up.

They also should be asked the same sorts of questions the guys are being asked. Yeah, I get it, a lot of the suits look alike, but if the guys are being asked about their work, the women should, too.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 and the manicam sucks. Identify the polish, sure. But I kinda feel bad for women who show age in their hands-- I certainly do, and would feel uncomfortable shoving them in a box with HD cameras for an extreme closeup!

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see what's so bad about them criticizing an idiotic structure just because they're professionally obligated to take part in it

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it on your off time. Don't put an interviewer on the spot for trying to do their job. Which btw, is just asking who made your dress.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, don't agree. The fact is that actresses are expected to promote whatever movie/TV show they're in and walking the red carpet is one of those ways to promote things. But being bombarded with questions about their clothing/accessories will always be annoying unless you're way into fashion. And a mani-cam? FFS, they're 100% entitled to tell people to fuck off.

You wouldn't like it if you were doing something that was an overrated part of your job and people kept asking you dumb, repetitive questions about trivial things and then insisted that because you were out in public, people have a right to make you show them your clothes and inspect your nails.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. This isn't something new. It is pretty much established the red carpet is for fashion. No one reads, "Best Person Talking About Their Movie" lists after the Oscars.

Nope.

Why do they have to get asked about their dresses and jewelery? Why does it fucking matter?

It's facile and ridiculous. Good on them for being snarky.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Because they let designers give those to them to promote them. If they didn't want to get asked about it they should wear something from a minor label and not wear thousands of dollars worth of jewelry or just simply avoid the red carpet.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. You don't want people asking you about your outfit, then pick a boring outfit. Get dolled up to the nines, go somewhere where everyone will be asking everyone else about their outfit, and then bitch about people talking about your outfit? Nope, you're being an idiot.

If a guy went to one of these functions in a diamond encrusted silk tux in hot pick colouring, then made a fuss about being asked about his choice in attire, then not one single person here would be defending his right to be huffy.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I would, though I'd also understand why your hypothetical man would be singled out-- because he's conspicuously different from all the other men in the event. But most of the women who walk the red carpet will be wearing expensive designer gowns because it comes with the territory. If they pick a boring outfit as you suggested, they'll be lambasted in the media for their bad taste. Women are pretty much damned if they do, damned if they don't.

But they'd be less damned if people like you stopped insisting that the mere act of wearing even-appropriate clothing in public gives everyone the right to interrogate them about their appearance.

Except it's not a professional expectation - almost a professional obligation - for guys to wear hot pink tuxes. They're not wearing fantastic dresses just because they think it'll be fun.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
as if there isn't some sort of mad fight to pick on anyone NOT dressed fancily enough. show up in a basic hobo dress and you will get so much fucking shade.

there is literally no way of winning this game.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

They do get asked some really ridiculous questions, but I think a lot of them only snark at the interviewers because that's what they think the people at home want to see. Like how awhile ago, it was in for extremely slender actors and actresses to try and make themselves seem more relatable by constantly talking about food/how hungry they are and how they're suuuuch a pig for pizza and nutella.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of people in this thread really don't like fashion

/missing the point

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Or that actresses are not just messing with interviewers but shitting on fashion designers who loan them their dresses for publicity.

Re: Oscar Red Carpet

(Anonymous) 2015-02-23 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
No. A lot of people in this thread don't like that the only thing that matters about a woman is what she wears.

I'm torn between laughing and rolling my eyes at the people in this thread who are convinced that all women on the red carpet are poor oppressed little creatures who are damned by a misogynistic society to wear mind-numbingly expensive gowns and jewelry, the poor, poor things ;_;

I think this thread is stupid and claiming that asking actresses about their clothes is misogyny is reaching, but your implication that women aren't affected by misogyny if they're rich or successful enough is downright incorrect.

I say good for the actresses. I'd be snarky too if an actor I co-starred with in a movie got asked about his thoughts on his character's story arc and then I got asked about my dress and makeup. If they were being asked about the movie and then the reporter ended with "And who are you wearing?" I can see that being a good compromise, but I think some actresses are well and tired of being only asked three vapid appearance-based questions to every one actual movie question.
