Honestly, I'm waiting to see Mad Max until it's in the second-run for various reasons (I'm just not interested in the movie at all, but I feel like I should see it after my friends and co-workers' constant badgering, lmao), but I did see Jurassic World at least... it was a fun movie -bit of a too slow build for my tastes, but we did have 20 minutes of trailers beforehand-, but I think someone who's a bigger fan of the franchise might have enjoyed it far more than me.

I haven't seen either, but Mad Max, the character was dull? That's kind of the point...

JW is fun, but I'm not sure how you can really give it much kudos in terms of quality. I've heard others say it's much better than Mad Max as well, I didn't see MM just because I hate those films.
But JW has terrible gender politics, especially when you think the original 20years ago was much more enlightened. Plus some of the acting is pretty hammy.

Jurassic World was AMAZING and CLAIRE IS A BAMF.

Haven't Fury Road though, so.

Fair enough OP. Honestly, I liked Fury Road, and one of the things stopping me from seeing JW is lack of monies.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Plus JW had the advantage of not having to be decent to women.

Just put a handsome dude in it and forget about those sluts and whores who want equality, right?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I can understand having a preference or enjoying JW over MMFR, but to say JW had better characters is my mind boggling to me. Max is supposed to be a nonentity in MM (has been since the first movie), but Nux and Furiosa had more character than everyone in JW combined. The most interesting character in JW was probably Blue - and she was a goddamn raptor. Not hating, but World was really lacking, especially when compared to Jurassic Park (which could be objectively argued to be better than Fury Road, but that's another topic.)

I haven't seen JW and I'm not really all that keen to, but I agree with what you're saying about MM.

It was too loud and the characters were dull. Yes, objectively the stunts were impressive and the themes (esp the focus on women) were cool. But it's not a movie I'd want to see again. It was both too overwhelming and too boring at the same time.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
They are also two completely different genres of action movie. Movies like Mad Max are supposed to be loud and fast and ridiculous. I saw Mad Max, enjoyed it for the most part, thought they did a great job, but I'd never see it again because it's just not my kind of movie.

But to say JW has better characters than MM? Nah.

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-06-21 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to see both and haven't seen either... Oops.

Anyway, maybe Mad Max just wasn't your kind of film? A friend described it as "insane, nonstop action" and said it was "never boring", so this is one of those things that's going to vary a lot based on personal preference.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen MM (not my kind of movie) so I can't compare them, but I didn't think the characters in JW were are that great. It was mostly enjoyable (in the end and a couple of attack scenes in the middle) but the characters were so cookie-cutter to me.

I liked them both but for very different reasons. I do think I enjoyed Jurassic World more but tbh the JP movies are my childhood so I just have a stupid amount of love for them that can't really be topped(honestly I was just glad that Jurassic World lived up to my hope of it being fun, that's all I wanted from it).

[personal profile] truce 2015-06-21 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen both, and liked them for different reasons. They were both fun movies in their own right. I didn't really get the "Claire now wants babies" vibe from JW despite what her sister said... I got more of a "She learned to love and feel protective of her nephews after feeling disconnected from her family" vibe. And she did some really brave stuff throughout the movie. Not on the level of Furiosa or anything, but she was a regular person thrown rapidly into an awful situation and she did her best. I thought that was really admirable.

For those who keep saying that they didn't see MM because 'It's not my kind of movie,' I beg you, GO SEE MM. I'm not a huge action flick kind of chick either, but holy shit, that movie impressed the hell out of me.

JW looks kind of meh to me though. I did enjoy the original Jurassic Park, but... I dunno man.

This here is the reason Mad Max fans are so irritating to me. Any little criticism of their precious movie and they start foaming at the mouth BUT EQUALITYYYYYYY LOL DOES YOUR MOVIE HAVE THAT?????

It wasn't that special, folks. And saying Max having no characterization being the point is really fucking dumb.

If y'all were so dedicated you would've tried to save the movie from being a box office disaster (300 mil worldwide, it's barely hanging on there) but instead you just have to annoy people online getting mad about why they don't like it.

PS I enjoyed it. But the overhype is really irritating. Here come the obligatory "You let other people influence your thoughts on movies?!?!?!?!?!?!" replies.

Personally, Jurassic Park appealed to my dinosaur-loving inner child, and Mad Max appealed to my good action-movie loving 23-year-old self. So.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-22 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Why did you make this? Now Mad Max fans are gonna be whining about how Mad Max was such a complex, socially-relevant movie and how idiot plebians prefer mindless shit like Jurassic Park.

For the record, I preferred Jurassic Park because It didn't have Zoe Kravitz in it.
