Harry Potter. Every time I watch the movies I want to read some fanfic and such. But there is just too much, I don't have any clear pairings I ship, I really just want some gen fic, and I have no idea where to start.

Comics (DC and Marvel). I love the movies (animated and live action) but have no clue how to get into the comics.

Steven Universe. The show itself is okay at best, I mostly look at the pretty fan art. But the fandom itself is super insufferable and a lot of the vocal/vehement fans lack self-awareness on the scale of My Little Pony: FIM in its early days.

Anything BioWare related. Enough said.

Homestuck, back in the day when it was still super popular and all over the place. It's mellowed out considerably since the gigapause and all the shit went down with the video game, but there was a time you couldn't go two feet on the internet or at a local con and bump into an obnoxious Homestuck fan.

Steven Universe. I only started getting into it recently. Went to check fandom, found out how they drove a girl to try and commit suicide, and left fandom forever. Fuck that.

pretty much all of them.

I mean some fandoms are better than others. But in general I don't want fandom to ruin the experience of something I like, and more and more lately that's a huge danger. Just recently got into SU for example and have heard plenty of reasons to stay away from the fandom. I also would probably have liked MLPFIM a lot less if I'd interacted a lot more with the fandom.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, if there even is a fandom for that. I've given up on TV show fandoms (well, for sitcoms at least) having any substance beyond fangirling the cast (what does that have to do with the show?) and crappy icon posts. Oh, and no discussions whatsoever, unless you count reaction posts you watch while airing, which are usually OT and random anyway.

If B99's fandom is more awesome than that, do let me know. But I expected more from Parks and Rec, and was surprised.

The Blacklist. Doesn't matter whom you ship or don't ship or have no ships, that's all the fandom focuses on, the ship wars are stupid, and even people who are on your "side" post embarrassing shit, clearly taking this average-quality, unevenly written show way, way too seriously.

Final Fantasy VII.

Half because I absolutely hate the Compilation and only consider the original game to be "canon" and that's the only story I'm interested in hearing about, and half because even after nearly 20 years the fandom is still Cloud/Aeris or Cloud/Tifa, and Aeris vs Aerith, etc.

Steven Universe and Star Wars, not because I dislike either fandom in question I just don't have any interest in looking at any fannish stuff for it outside of occasionally reblogging gif-sets.

Job Application Question

So I'm working on a job application. I have 3 different writing samples I use depending. There is one that is my general go-to because I've gotten compliments on it and it is all my work with very little editing.

However, there is another that fits better for this job. But it was heavily edited and more of a joint thing.

So the first one isn't completely out of the ballpark (the job is more of advocacy and the first sample is from a case, but the advocacy subject is the same as what the case was). But the second sample was written during a policy internship and is pretty spot-on.
