41: LOL! Seriously, how bad must the other Jack/Ianto fic be for a ficwriter who has never seen the show to become well-known?

78: Rhys > Whole of Torchwood. Possibly except for Tosh.

41

(Anonymous) 2008-03-12 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
41. It's actually not bad at all. There are fantastic writers producing fantastic fic in this fandom.

Make that "fucking fantastic fic" -- alliteration is good.

58. Okay, this secret made me crack up. I love it to bits because I can so see it happening. And Zolo would so be J.D.'s ideal version of Dr. Cox. Though I wonder who would be Turk.

76. A David Attenborough secret? Oh, I heart you so much. I adore that mans voice. It's so relaxing and inviting. He can make a slug sound fascinating. I will miss him when he's gone too.

A couple of my favorite Atthenborough videos.
The Lyre Bird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjE0Kdfos4Y)

The Bower Bird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPbWJPsBPdA)

The Bird of Paradise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P85LoHftEKs&feature=related)

Okay, so birds are cool.

5: I grew up with those (and some others, like Matsumoto's work) and continued with new stuff as it came along. Some are better, some are worse. Finding something worthless just because it's new, or because the concept has been done before (in which case your examples weren't the first anyway), or, god forbid, that other people like it too, is incredibly immature and narrow-minded.

Also, stating your opinion as fact is really not the thing to do if you want anyone to pay attention, you know.

45: yes, let's not pay attention to how the characters act in canon or anything as stupid; they're MEN, and they all act the same way! Let's reinforce gender stereotypes even in series taking place in different worlds where they might not apply! Screw writing male characters as human beings, that's ignoring their MANLINESS!!

As for the submissive, weepy, clingy OOC-ness, yes that's OBVIOUSLY how girls act! No need to put their personality first either!

58 I think everybody who's read/seen One Piece dreams of being part of the crew! I don't think J.D and Ruffy have anything in common though...

45

23. Oh, goodness, yes. Isn't that Jack's main character trait?

41. Ahahah! Oh, thank you for sharing.

43. You clearly haven't been in fandom long enough. Don't you know that killing someone is a sign of TRUE LOVE? Especially if it's done in a horrible and agonizing way.

68. I think that's much better than the alternative of liking incest in fandom and real life.

43

(Anonymous) 2008-03-13 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Killing someone and baking someone are two different things. You don't bake someone out of love.

5. Eh, that is your opinion. Not fact. I enjoy older manga like Phoenix and Dragon Ball, but also like a lot of the newer stuff. I do wish more fans would give the older manga a try, though.

43. aw, I think he was warming up to her before he found out about Lucy. And I think Sweeney/Lucy is kinda plain but Sweeney/Lovett is adorable. Different strokes for different folks, hm?

(Anonymous) 2008-03-13 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Warming up the oven, yes.

Sweeney/Lucy seems to have a lot more depth than Sweeney/Lovett in my opinion. To me, it just seems completely out of character for Sweeney to feel anything like love towards Lovett, seeing as a lot of his revenge on Turpin is based on the fact that the woman he loves is dead (to his knowledge) and his daughter locked away.

But if you think that Sweeney would just forget about all that- you know, his wife and daughter - and go for someone like Lovett..

Well, go for it.

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
5. You lost me when you put Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragonball up there. Not only those two are overrated but very crappy titles (and except the one on the far left, I know those titles). It boggles my mind that people think that they were good. Also, there are other shounen than the Big Three (Naruto, Bleach and One Piece) like Hitman Reborn, Hikaru no Go, Hunter x Hunter, Gintama, Busou Renkin, Whistle!, Eyeshield 21. I personally liked Yugi-oh because it was lulzy and entertaining. I loved Death Note because of one-uping each other and have to admit, despite it's flawed yet good second half, it was one of the best Jump titles because it went against the typical Jump themes (well, until the end) and used mental battles instead of physical battles and not everyone was a good guy.

8. "BAWWWWWWWW! No one likes my series!"
Actually, I read the first volume of Spiral and wasn't impressed despite being a mystery whore, plus the talk about it being not all that good makes me wary to finish it. I prefer Detective Academy Q more. Meh, I love Reborn for what it is, a wacky action title about mafiosos and it helps it has some great characters despite its slow start. Too bad the Reborn's anime adaptation sucks so badly, I wouldn't blame people not liking it and usually tell them to read the manga.

Also PROTIP: Anime are MADE to make money off of. Even Sprial had merchandising during its run. That's how the anime pays for itself.

14. Darling, I love scruffy manly men, distinguished older men, and the pretty boys. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

19. Sailor Moon R, right? ;_; Memories.

25. Amen. People don't know how to ignore others now.

31. Same reasons why I used to love RoyEd so much. Man, I wish I was into FMA again to fangirl this couple again.

53. I was curious about the KHR Dressing Room, this pretty much cements me NOT going in there, ever.

67. The porn was never good. But I admit it lost its charm after that big overhaul though.

Too big! Secret 3. Yes, I want Batman to say that line at least once in my lifetime. Just once.

[identity profile] aratama.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)

18. Y-yeah... I kinda do too. Mostly because honestly, I'll ship Simm!Master with just about anyone. But I prefer him with the ladies (while Ainley I can see as with the Doctor).
And I know it's crack and OOC and all that other gear, and honestly, when it comes to Rose, I only like her shipped with the Doctor (not the other way around, mind). But I have trouble believing that any woman wouldn't at least consider hitting that, no matter how psychotic. Lookit that pose! It screams "Do things to me!"
...'scuze me. Need to go turn on the AC.

23. FUZZY LUMPKINS AND LITTLE NAVAL ORANGES! THANK YOU FOR THIS SLICE O' TRUTH!
Seriously, that's why the Torchwood secrets have been confusing me. Is this the same Jack we're talking about here, people?

24. I would glomp/hug the Doctor (especially Six. Cuddley multi-coloured teddybear!), and quite possible go for a snog. But yeah, even though I'm new!fen and hopelessly fluffy about some aspects...I just can't go for it. Doctor=Romantic=/sexual.

41. And see, this is why I just can't give two flying flips about porn fics. What's the point people? What's the point of a fic without characterization?

44. I heart him so much. He looks and sounds a lot like my uncle, only with a much gravelier voice that I could listen to for days. And yeah, sometimes he's just so darn geeky. Plus, he was the voice of the Iron Giant!

47. Awww. I wouldn't ever call Peggy Hill my rolemodel, but she is one of my favourite characters on TV just because she's one of the most realistic characters I've ever encountered. I don't particularly like her as a person because she's pushy, can't take criticism, and believes that she can do/know everything without ever being aware of how others really see her... and that's a bit too much of what I'd be afraid my faults were. But I do love her. She's so sweet.

57. IAWTC. Well, I'll bash Raoul, but I have since I was ten, when I first saw the play, and didn't even realize there was such a thing as fandom. He's so much fun to make fun of (can't stand those lovelorn swains, but he's in good company, with Will Turner and almost every Shakespearian romantic hero). A well-done friendship fic is so much better than slash.

58. FTW! Okay, I've never even seen One Piece, but I can totally buy that! EAGLE!

64. Yeah. Um. Nah, kidding. You're entitled to your own opinions (because I hate people giving me crap for liking Rose), but I just don't get the idea of Ten/Martha. Or, I get the idea. But they just had no chemistry whatsoever to me. It was all one-way, and maybe it's personal experience, but that's a bit painful for me to watch (well-written and realistic. But just...no chemistry. Martha just felt like she was...there). But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Really, what I'd like to know is where are all these insane "10Rose" fans that seem to be swarming everywhere but where I am. And am I the only one ever bothered by the fact that the term seems to be "10Rose" everywhere, when Nine and Rose had much better chemistry (largely based on the fact that Nine, miserable b*****d that he was, was not a dick)?

78. I wouldn't do him, but I think he's the best guy on that show. D'aw, sha Rhys.

79. That's so weird, just last night, I was thinking of doing a Theif and the Cobbler secret. But not about being bored. I love that movie so much, and I'm still a bit sad that so few of my friends have seen it. Vincent Price FTW. Fantasitc art too.

[identity profile] hologrphcbuddha.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Just wanted to say I completely agree with you on #64. I personally never connected with Martha, but I don't have anything against people who like her or don't like Rose. I don't imagine the Rose fans on my flist would jump all over anyone who politely expressed the OP's opinion. I don't participate in the DW community much outside my flist, though, so maybe I'm missing something?

18 HAWT.

23. It's why I feel like I should hate him, yet I don't. Strange. I've hated every character like that I've ever seen, except him.

46. They're still better than the "writing slash makes me better than you" fangirls.

4. Wow...didn't think anyone remembered those books/that fandom

31. Your opinion, I personally don't see it (sorry)

45. Agreed, girls make the guys girlier than they already are! But they're chicks, so what do you expect?

46. No need to hide your gender whether you be male, female, herm, tranny, etc... I'm sure you'd still get respected (But then again, I know next to NOTHING about the gaming community since I play so few games)

54. Kuwabara X Kurama... WAIT, IT EXISTS?!?!?!

58. LOL

60. Well it's a videogame... they're not known for their plots, just their gameplay... *shrug*

63. Yeah, Brainy is cool

65. Wow... a shipping/pairing tree/chart... nicely made (and good pairings too)

71. So? I'm 18 and I love cartoons and even watch ones made for younger people, I don't care and you shouldn't either (even if you're a dude)

74. Curious about that... is that a movie or a book or something?

79. Ouch...

74. Jericho is a TV show about the end of the world with a big conspiracy thread running through the middle of it, pretty pretty actors and awesome characters.

Scary as all hell and oh so so awesome.

45: Some slash written by women actually gets it right. You can tell them apart from the rest because they've experianced anal for themselves, and would therefore know no lube = OWWWWWWW.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
4. I'm sorry, but the show was horrible. I knew it wouldn't be the best thing ever, but I just couldn't bring myself to watch it after the second ep because I was afraid that it would ruin the books for me. I just pretend that it never happened. (PS. Christopher Ralph was the ONLY good casting choice, IMO.)

79. It really is a *different* movie; the visuals are stunning but it does drag a bit in some parts and doesn't follow the whiplash-speed that kid movies go at nowadays. At least you like some of it!

[identity profile] srsfnbsns.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
TB1: Oddly enough, I sort of agree with you. I watched the first few eps of the show and saw nothing to base a ship off of. But the fans are still militantly shipping. I can't help but think that's there's a total lack of creativity on their part since that's all they can write. I like slash as much as the next person, but I don't see it between every guy! How about some epic gen or something? C'mon people. Pull your heads out of your asses and get creative.

45. >:/ I think you're gonna get jumped for that one, and I can't say I disapprove. Don't we go through this, like, once a month?
