#18. That. is. brilliant.

#44. Oh God, me too. It's so shameful, but he's kind of adorkable.

5. Are you made of retarded?

You may think you've won, but everyone knows that older = better, and all the best manga ever made are shoujo manga from the 70s. Glass Mask, Candy Candy, and Lady Oscar are the real pinnacles of manga greatness. Gigantic over-sparkly eyes, strange pointy little noses, and that one shocked expression they all do where their eyes go white and there's lightning in the backround - THESE are signs of a work of art, not overmuscled young boys who fight a lot!

I am completely right on this, because it's not just my opinion, it's SOLID FACT. I know this with my heart because I'm special and my opinions are actually the same thing as solid fact.

THIS IS REAL MANGA, BITCH. HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES?!

WHITE EYES + LIGHTNING = GREATNESS. TRUFAX!

But you forget to mention the endless billowy waves of hair. The power of HAIR compels you!

You missed why he lost the show didn't you.

Chef Robert Irvine, Peppered in Controversy (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/28/AR2008022804375.html)

He lied about a lot of stuff. He didn't work on Princess Diana's wedding cake, he didn't cook for President Bush and he's not a knight like he claimed! I can't even watch him anymore because I know he constantly refers to cooking for the president and the royal family and people call him "Sir Robert." It's all lies. =/

Can't name the first one, sure.
Yuu Yuu Hakusho
Dragonball
Slam Dunk
City Hunter
Not sure on that last one...

No, I still think you're an elitist ass.
Everyone's entitled to their preferences. The new titles may not match up to your standards, or even the genre you grew up with, but people enjoy it and it sells, and that is what authors are writing. It makes it /different/, but it does not make it less in anyone's eyes but your own.

I could say I wanted to talk about how the mixture of the tragic, the dead serious, and the utter batshit lunacy into a ridiculously intricate plot is what makes MGS wonderful. I could say I wanted to point out that anybody who can't see the beauty of using painstakingly researched firearms with silencers that degrade to shoot a guy covered in bees who keeps doing handstands for no reason must be dead inside. I could say I wanted just to say that one of the greatest and most pervasive crimes in any medium is to take yourself too seriously. But really I just wanted an excuse to post this picture.

16. Anxiously waiting the US release!

41. It's been my experience that one usually finds crapfic with tons of reviews and greatfic with few. Comments have never been a yardstick by which fiction can be judged, not in the fandoms I frequent.

45. Most slash is written by girls who have never had sex, let alone anal sex, who are simply repeating the same tired cliches they've read in other badly-written slash, so what do you expect?

For the first time ever, I understand why Sailor Moon has a lot of fans.

21. Wait, is that a character from Puyopuyo? (I haven't played the newer ones, but it definitely looks like the style).

71. Read the books anyway. See if your local library has them. That's what I did.

79. Have you seen the Miramax version or the Recobbled edition?

27)You wouldn't think that about the Dolphy character if you knew she was a SELF INSERT >____> not all that respectable, really.

Re: 27

[identity profile] viserys.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but... That secret was the first time I've ever encountered Dolphy. I went to her gallery and it took me all of three second to come to the conclusion that the character was a self-insert.

And then I browsed and found her friend who has a self-insert for John Silver.

Both artists are in their 20s.

Just.... WAT.

My poor fandom. :(

((lol, this person will just love my icon.))

I miss some of those titles as well, especially YYH, but to even consider DBZ as part of a "golden age of manga befuddles me. For the record, I think character development has actually improved since the days of old in shonen manga. The characters I read are more human and interesting to me.

Re: 5.

[identity profile] exhero.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
The secret maker is talking about Dragonball not Dragonball Z. ^^; That series actually has plot and character development. Rather than it's sequel DBZ. Which is more on the mindless action side.

5. 8'D I have no interest in those manga anymore just because you are a twat.

... lol kidding. =) Regardless of quality, you aren't going to stop me from liking what I like and disliking what I think is too stupid/annoying/boring/smart (!!!) for me. This means that, yes, in this case, your opinion doesn't matter. Be the change you see or gtfo.

... Hmm. That all sounded a bit harsh. =) Ah, well. Must learn tact.

Also, I'm stalking Name that Fandom. >D More lovely manga to read over the summer~!

50. Er, that's not so good. But, if you say it scares you, then I suppose you're not completely like him.

[identity profile] puritybrown.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
39: I can't believe I'm on page 7 and I'm the first person to mention this:

OMG GUNNERKRIGG COURT SECRET!!!!111!!!eleventy!!!!

*ahem* But, that said... you should remember that Gamma has to give up a lot for Zimmy, and there's no ultimate solution in sight. Even years later, Zimmy was still tormented. The danger in that kind of situation is that the person you're caring for might become dependent on you, while you get burned out to the point where you can't care for them any more -- leaving them without their only source of calm and sanity.

It's dangerous for one person to depend on another for the sake of their own mental health; it's also dangerous to pour too much of yourself into the care of another person, because you can end up wearing yourself out, no longer able to care for the person you gave up everything for, yet without the energy to do anything else effectively either. And that can lead to you resenting the person you cared for so tenderly, in the most painful of ironies.

Which is not to say that you shouldn't do it. But be aware of the dangers, and don't box yourself in, because you have a right to mental health too.
