Go bad? What be this show doing to Brainy? Info, please!

(also you have fine taste to like him in any form, OP)

OP of 63

(Anonymous) 2008-03-12 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kind of complicated. For simplicity's sake, let's just say that in order to defeat one of the Bad Guys, he had to dig into a part of his 'programing' left behind by the original Brainiac who said that it would "open up new realms of possibility" for Brainy. At the end of that episode, he gives an evil smile o' doom. It was the hottest thing I'd seen the entire season, and I want to see MORE.

I doubt you'll be lynched and you're certainly not alone. While I've talked a lot here (and on my own LJ) about how Hobo!Phoenix is a decent character, etc... I would much rather that the powers that be hadn't stripped his badge. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for awhile and see what they do with him in GS5 (if he even makes an appearance), but I really would rather have seen him as a lawyer again.

For me, I think it's because the guy goes through the ringer so much in the first arc, that it would've been nice to know that he was able to do his thing as a normal lawyer for at least a few years.

He could've easily been included as Apollo's mentor and even as Trucy's adoptive dad without being a hobo.

Oh well, I suppose we're stuck with it for now, eh?

46. Whoa, seriously? I've never really seen female-hate, unless you're just referring to how guys don't take the girls seriously sometimes. Maybe it's because alot of males are immature. :/

60. I just take the themes seriously. The story itself can be both hilarious, but still dramatic.

25. PUCCA IS RAD.

45. This is a big reason why writing slash makes me anxious, I just never know if I'm doing it right and I don't have enough guy friends to observe for ... ulterior motivations. My girl-friends and I tend to feel like we relate to each other more like guys than like stereotypical girls, and there's very little I hate more than OMG GUSHY WUB WUB slash fics. Vomits. I'm kind of emotionally distant anyway, so I try to work of that and my own difficulties with that kind of thing, but still.

ANYWAY MY POINT IS I AGREE. And I hate when girl writers resort to horrible stereotypes TEE HEE HE'S SO UKE!1!1!1 aaauuuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh OK I'M DONE

60. The sheer absurdity is a big reason why I love those games so much. I FEEL SAFE HERE... IN THE BOX!

67. There is, imho, hidden deep in the Sherlock Holmes section.... =X (not that there isn't plenty of bad porn to outnumber the good though)

22: Oh no, I've seen plenty of bitching from both sides of the issue. "Character development rabble rabble!" "Ruining the plot blah blah!" Both sides are roughly the same size and equally as irritating.

46: That's probably the best way to start off, at least. I've had the most success using unisex names, going into a community, gaining the respect of its members, and then drop the gender bomb on them. There are occasional issues, but it's mostly all a big joke. Mostly.

60: I thought the whole point is that you're not supposed to take the plot seriously and that MGS is a comedic series. Now I'm kind of afraid that I'm missing the whole point.

Re: 60.

22. I think AA4 explains that...

33. D:

46. If anyone disses you for being a girl gamer, they can just fuck off. They're immature anyway. I know plenty of girls who play video games. Hell, my sister is know to take up the controller every now and a gain and be beat me and my brother, even thou we've been gaming far longer. So, honestly, it's either your scared of ZOMG A GURL LET'S CYBER or you're making too big of a deal out of it. PROTIP: If you don't make a deal out of it, no one will say much about it.

60. Because if you look past how utterly ludicrous and unreal the series is, you'll find lots of deep undertones about war, love, patriotism, emotions, roles, and other themes. Besides, plenty of series have silly plots but they're treated seriously. The plot is awesome, and lots of fun to discuss. Everyone has a favorite character and Snake/Big Boss is ultimate GAR.

74. Well, Advance Wars Days of Ruin makes me want to survive a meteor apocalypse because it doesn't seem all that bad. And it taught me WHERE THERE IS LIFE, THERE IS HOPE. That would keep me going any day.

64

(Anonymous) 2008-03-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly? Every time I so much as dare to use voice chat I get called an attention whore (and regular flavor whore too, just for added spice). If I so much as hint at my gender in a game, I get either propositioned or booed. Unless I hide it, I get harassed to no end. Heaven forbid I ever admit to liking an RPG or something equally "girly." I love the community a lot, but caring and sensitivity towards all creeds, races and genders is not exactly a tenet of gaming.

Maybe I just hang with the wrong guys. It sucks all the same.

Hahahah, you took the words right out of my mouth. My suspension of belief just cannot accomodate Reborn. And it's not like people think it's 100% normal. More like they're all retards and they're like, "Oh, Tsuna suddenly started moving faster! Nevermind the fact that I just heard a really loud gunshot!"

And hey, MGS actually has plot and some character development. It's also got that going for it over Reborn, too.

5. It is, in fact, still your subjective opinion, because what makes entertainment good is about as subjective as you can get. Deal with it.

I'm sure fandom's happier without you, if you're going to be a self-righteous dick about what other people like.

8. If you're going to call something stupid, spelling it right might help your case a little. Just saying.

That said, I love Spiral to pieces, but I also love Reborn, and the fact that one is popular might have something do with the fact that it's still running and hits the tropes that tend to be really popular in shounen, versus the one that ended some time ago and is not a blatant shounen slugfest (nothing against slugfests, I enjoy those too and adore Reborn, but there's no denying they're more marketable)?

Yeah. Just maybe.

29. I just started watching it too. He comes off as a bit harsh, but it was kind of fun. Now I can't help but think that everything he said in the show was a lie. All that "I cooked for the royal family and the president" stuff was just a bunch of bollocks.

31. I think you people need to take off your fangirl goggles when you watch shit. Yeah, Roy teases Ed, does that mean they're fucking? No. There's nothing there to hang a relationship off of. That's the worst pairing ever. Even Ed/Al makes more sense. Hell, Winry/Seshka makes more sense. Armstrong/Hayate makes more sense than that! Ok...maybe not. But Almost.

45. "I hate reading slash fiction written by women girls"
There. Fixed it for you! I like reading fic written by women, because mature writers tend to have a better handle on the differences between men and women. I HATE HATE HATE reading shit by little girls who are still in their sparkle sparkle kawaii phase. Arrrrgh! It takes them until college to pull out of that and they still need a few years to mature up. I'll take stuff written by Women any day, just spare me the girly girl shit.

49. ...People slash them? They obviously missed the point. All those years of hatred does not a ship make.
