You mayn't have said it the best way, but- YES! A thousand times, YES.

I hate the easy cop-out explanations - "x has this disorder," "y was abused as a child," - as characters (and people in the real fucking world) aren't so easily written off. They can be destroyed by something much less than disease and strife, and they can overcome a lot bloody worse.

Re: 66.

Yeah, I have a feeling that I worded my secret so people didn't get what I was trying to say.

And a thousand times yes to you as well! :D Whoever you are, you are awesomesauce for actually getting it.

33. I see nothing wrong with this. It's an apt quote and one that makes you think.

51. Great, now I won't be able to get that out of my head. Idea rocks, though.

66. I don't see it that way. Knowing a character has a certain named disorder can be interesting, sure, but even within that label there's a huge range of symptoms and coping mechanisms and ways that they got like that in the first place aaaaaaaaaand my major is showing, isn't it?

[identity profile] raven-scarlett.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
57. That's what happened to me with Naruto and Tsubasa, except I don't even READ the updates anymore. From what my friends have been mentioning about the story since then, I don't regret my decision, either.

So I buy merchandise instead.

Re: 5

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Which is exactly why MERCHENDISING is what keeps the anime community alive. DvD sales always suck because you're always getting ripped off for 1-3 episodes per disk, delays and given crappy subs or dubs at times.

People don't seem to realize that in Japan, people are barely paying for it to be watched on TV, yet some fans spend a shitload of their life earnings buying toys, pillows, etc. that in many ways fund their companies.

Hell, George Lucas makes all of his money off Star Wars action figures.

04. Word.

08. You what? As someone who considers the show to have saved my life, I just don't commute. (But, I will say that the show was never the same once they left high school. *clings to the first three seasons*)

10. "You forgot lazy and disrespectful."

12. That's because it's Torchwood. It only exits because of the sci-fi-gay-porn.

14. DON'T KEEP THIS A SECRET. The Thirteen hate needs to stop. It's so uninspired.

19. After learning that Saul is a Cylon, you won't get my handkerchief. Sorry, the tears ruined it. *still mourns*

26. Fuck Yes.

34. Good old Wilson. Giving you what you need without even knowing it. Total addict. (But, on a serious note, I thank whatever's-out-there for fictional character because so many have helped me recognize and deal with personal issues. Your Wilson = My Buffy.)

35. Preach It.

43. ARGH. THOSE WHINNY PANSIES CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES. (The writers were one thing; the writers always get screwed. But fuck SAG.) When its president cannot stop neither the internal bickering NOR stop coups to disenfranchise half its member from contract voting NOT get along with the other unions NOR grow a fucking backbone and settle this before June you know these people deserve whatever shit the AMPTP serves them. Plus, like the 'standard' contract negotiations matter to them. Not when your manager broker a side deal.

47. *Melts a little inside.* They so deserve each other.

51. Ronan should be Eleven! (And the structure of the series doesn't matter. It's all about The Fry/Laurie and the ridiculously elaborate analogies.)

63. We *all* did. The only thing that sucked was the network cut most of the best footage.

08 OP

Oh, I agree it was never the same after they left high school. And the further I got from being a high schooler myself, the more I'd watch it and think "This.. is so far removed from my life now. I can't relate." I suppose that's what it boils down to, being too old (or feeling it anyway) to relate to the high school aspect, which was a large part of the first seasons.

5-I agree. Why do you think Geneon went under?

43-Because th actors striking typically have more money than you and thus they don't have money troubles. They also can't think ahead and I think joining that union is absolute bull. If you make millions of dollars, why the fuck are you striking?! You get paid plenty and should be happy about it!

As far as I've seen, people have been able to download anime for years, and the industry has only gotten bigger. That applies to the music industry as well.

People, including me, will download. This isn't going to stop no matter how much you whine about it. As long as it's available and free why wouldn't you take advantage of it? And that's not an excuse that's fact.

How much longer do you think it'll be available if people just download it and don't pay? They have to make money SOMEHOW. You seem to lack an understanding of the phrase "money makes the world go 'round".

Because, y'know, it's not like some of us put literally months of research into things like that. It's not like it's writing on the wall when a character has flashbacks that are commented on by those around her, and not in a funny way, either. Nope, doing nearly a year of research on PTSD before one comes out and says Character A and character M have it is obviously cheapening them.

Also? Saying things like that can be "solved" by "therapy and some goddamn happy pills"? SORRY CHARLIE, THAT'S FUCKING OFFENSIVE. I almost hope you get in a car crash and see someone you love nearly die, or get assaulted, or experience any kind of major fucking trauma, so you can have lovely little flashbacks and irrational fear, too. But because I'm not a generalizing little shit like you obviously are? There's an almost in that sentence. ♥

And if that was teal deer? Fuck off and go back to fapping over your little blue-haired puppet and the red-haired German chick.

Better than other shonen jump series.
It's still capable to revolution the story, like in the last chapter (-108 ...WTF?)

And I'm so sad because you put a scan of the death of Nnoitrasama, one of the bloody, violent and complex character of the story ever!

Don't worry, you are not the only one. I got the first season off of Netflix because my friends reference it all the time and I vaguely remembered it and thought I might as well rewatch it.

I barely made it through a disc. It's just ... boring and old. I totally feel like I've grown out of that show. It's lame. It was cool once but that time has past.

Yes. I mean, Joss did a good thing. But really, except for nostalgia and rare moments of eye-candy (Faith, Vampire!Willow, I'm looking at you) my interest in the series is zilch.

[identity profile] notcrazy-honest.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I have that same problem. So much so that I moved away from my parents, 2000 miles and into a friends' place. That forced me to (eventually) get a job, and now I'm (mostly) paying for my own stuff, but-

I still spend almost every free hour I have in my room. I don't want to go outside or meet people or do anything but sit here. And the worse thing? Now I feel I've earned it. Eventually I won't know anyone personally, just random acquaintences online. :/ At least I still have my roommates kicking me out occasionally, I guess.

Re: 3

I still spend almost every free hour I have in my room. I don't want to go outside or meet people or do anything but sit here.

I can relate. I do get out, but not often, and when I meet people I get so scared of what they think of me. Online, it's like people will talk to me, and not judge me because I'm a big geek in some fandom, or even over more important issues, because if they don't like that they can go find someone else to talk to among all the other millions of people online. In the regular world I feel like I have be what the person wants me to be and it's not worth it.

Which is probably a really immature attitude. But even before the internet as we know it I wasn't exactly a social butterfly and kept to myself a lot, so I can't blame fandom or the internet.

I don't even have roommates though.

35

5. You don't HAVE to buy it. After all, shows like Gurren Lagann weren't making money off of just being shown on TV, where people viewed it for free. Just because I enjoy watching Star Trek Voyager or something, doesn't mean I have to go out and buy the DvD's just to justify my right to write fanfiction, cosplay or draw fanart of it (not that I do any of that for Voyager, it's just an example).

19. That's how I feel if it's not Billy.
