Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites

(Anonymous) 2016-07-31 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
So now with tracking not working, the game is useless to play unless you live in a major city.

The good news is, if you hurry, you can get refunds for any money spent in the store from Apple/Android. Just open a refund ticket and use a variation of this "A game that tracks pokemon, now has no means whether ingame or third party to track the pokemon is a change in game function. The update changed how the main game is played in terms of tracking". People are reporting that both apple and android are quickly approving refunds for money spent in the past 2 weeks.

Even in a major city it sucks (bf plays it). Like, running around, crossing busy streets sort of aimlessly isn't really great fun either.

The way to go is to get multiple people and set up lures.

I live in a busy city and I've had a lot of fun. I walk along streets and through parks where the lures and gyms are. It's more fun with other people for sure though. and I mostly ignore the radar.

Weren't people having fun playing before those hunting sites came up? How is it suddenly useless without them now? Enough so that people deserve a refund because something not affiliated with the creators of the game was taken down?

I feel like I'm missing something.

It had tracking in the game. So when you used the app it would give you an estimate of how far away the Pokemon was and what direction to go in. The in game tracking is gone. Now the hunting site is gone. So if you want to find Pokemon now you have to travel aimlessly.

All the people finally knowing what Ingress players were telling them. Niantic is shit and does not give a fuck about anything.

Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites

As someone who actually liked the Pokemon hunting aspect of it, it was fun because we had an in-game way of tracking Pokemon down. The footsteps showed you how close or far it was, and the compass would point you in the right direction so you had a general idea of where you needed to be looking. I was able to catch lots of Pokemon just by using those two things.

But now? Now it's not fun anymore. I don't enjoy going around and around in circles for the better part of an hour and not having any clue whether I'm getting closer or further away. It's just frustrating seeing things show up on the list and not being able to catch any of them because you don't even know where to start hunting for them. I can only imagine how much worse it is for people who don't live in very populated areas and don't have many Pokemon that show up around them.

I never used tracking. I just open the app when I go out like normal and use it when it alerts me. Chill.

It's been 100+ degrees where I live. I also live in a small rural town. Some people can't just go out and wander around aimlessly trying to find the rarest Pokemon they've seen in their small, shitty town. A psyduck.

But...a lot of people did and don't enjoy the game without it?

Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites

Same, idk why people are so upset. Also I would never spend money in the app anyway.

So other people should "chill" because you think they should play the game the same way you do...

I admit I used PokeVision, but I also respect and even applaud Niantic's stance against them. It was cheating, everyone knew that. Yeah, I wish tracking was fixed, but honestly? It's a FREE APP. It's okay that it's buggy and laggy as they figure their shit out. The game is still enormously playable. It hardly crashes anymore. I haven't had a "Servers are down" error in weeks. It's okay to not race to get all the Pokemon, and instead just check the game periodically.

I heard there's a planned DDOS attack tomorrow, so the servers may be down again if they haven't found a way to prevent it since last time.

I still have the servers go down frequently. Friday after work as I tried to play, and yesterday afternoon. I understand why, but it is still annoying.

Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites

(Anonymous) 2016-07-31 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really not cheating, though. It doesn't make Pokémon appear or make them easier to catch/catch them for you. It just shows you where they are - you still have to go to the site, walk around until they pop up, and then try to catch them. There's no guarantee that you'll be able to catch them at all.

"Cheating"

how exactly is it cheating? Every player who has access to the app also has access to Pokevision. And Niantic won't make any money off shutting it down, because it's not like there are in-game purchases that help you find Pokemon better. This is gonna bite Niantic in the ass because fewer people will want to play at all now. Nobody's gonna spend money on extra Pokeballs if they can't even find any fucking Pokemon to catch.

I don't see why it's a problem for fans to create something that enhances gameplay experience for players.

So can someone explain these pokevision sites to me cause I never heard of them until people complained they were shut down. How did they even work?

I have a friend who tried it out. From what I gathered, it would scan the area and tell you exactly where all the pokemon in the area were and how long they would be there, and then you could walk or drive to whatever you wanted to catch.

I was with him when he tried to use it the other night and we went chasing after a pikachu but it didn't even work, so I can't imagine being this upset that it's gone, though obviously the people who are upset had better experiences with it than I did.

Basically you went to it and could look at a map of your city. It would display any spawned Pokemon in your area with a timer showing how long they would be there.

It looked like this.

How do you go about getting a refund if you have an Android? I spent about $15 on Pokeballs because there are so few Pokestops around here but now they're next to useless to me without some kind of tracker so I know where the Pokemon actually are.

That happened to me too! But it turns out it was logging me into the wrong google address, so I managed to get my old account back after fixing which address it logged into. Maybe that is her problem?
