Fandom is not a single entity to which this kind of agency can be ascribed. It is a collection of different people who do and feel a bunch of different things. And even if some people are being dumb about trans headcanons - and I'm sure there are some people who are - that doesn't invalidate the arguments in favor of either piece of it.

I don't know, I think it was foolhardy but reasonable - from the perspective of:

1) You need to get more information about what the fuck is going on
2) You don't know about alternate worlds, you just know that this is some weird fucking thing that might have some answers
3) At least heretofore, no one has shown any willingness at all to believe you or help you in any way
4) If you leave and come back with more shit, the thing might be gone, and you'll have lost a vital clue

It was very brave, maybe foolhardy, but I don't think it was stupid.
