What are your triumphs, FS? Did you have doubts along the way? Any naysayers or supporters? What do you want to accomplish next?

I made a handbag for myself. I tried a few times but always got it wrong and stopped trying for a year. I used the ones I got wrong all that time and was always worried someone would point and laugh if they looked closely. Finally I got sick of feeling that way and started on a new one. I always keep notes so I knew what mistakes to watch out for and what alterations I wanted to make. I spent a month planning everything and three days to make my handbag. It's very simple but pretty, I didn't make a single mistake, and I've had loads of compliments on it. I love saying, "Thanks, I made it myself!"

I made old fashioned donuts! I didn't think they would be bad but I didn't think I'd actually get that "old fashioned" donut look! They were delicious.

I self-published my book. Doubts, plenty when you hear "no" from agents all the time and don't have anything to back up "people will like this, really!" Then I did get some proof that people wanted a story like mine so I went ahead anyways. I had a few cheerleaders, best friend, aunt, my dad that sort of thing. It really helped.

Next I'd like to finish some short stories in the same universe and publish those too.

GOT A JOB! LIKE A BOSS! (not actually like a boss)

I'm moving to the city I wanted to move to, have a job with an organization I admire... the salary is crap and I was too afraid to negotiate, though considering no one else has called me back and just this morning I got a few rejection e-mails from other jobs I applied to, I'm just happy to be there. :D Now I have to... move across the country, from a lazy small city to a huge intense city.

Anybody else still play Skyrim?

Job Stuff

I seriously hate my job. I'm underemployed (I'm a college graduate who literally has the same job as two highschoolers). And I am realizing that all the other people in my department (who do something similar to me) get so many more benefits that I do. I understand why their hourly salary would be more than mine (even tho I am much busier than them their job involves more in depth stuff), but the fact that they apparently get huge bonuses and additional money assentives where I get absolutely nothing, makes me feel undervalued as a worker.


I am looking for a new job but am getting so discouraged. There just isn't that much out there.

I don't think I can ever explain to people how bad my depression is because I can truthfully say I don't think I would ever kill myself. Or maybe my friends are just too polite to comment?

I can't answer the door anymore unless I know exactly to expect someone, I think it's been more than two months since I ventured farther than my supermarket, there are parts of my flat that haven't been cleaned in half a year and there's loads trash lying around, time has literally lost all meaning to me so that statement about the month is a wild estimate at best. I haven't talked to my mother or my best friend who were the only ones I kept offline contact with, I was a single letter away from applying to a day clinic for my depression but literally could not bring myself to write three lines to finish it. I haven't been outside in a week. I don't read my mail. I (deliberately) missed my last appointment with my psychiatrist and haven't made a new one. I can't recall the last time the shit I kill my time with (video games and roleplaying mostly) actually brought me joy. I feel physically heavy when I try to do anything.

I am a genuine mess. I'd just like for someone to recognise what a shitshow I am at the moment but when I talk to people about it it seems like they're either not getting it or trying not to freak me out by admitting it's bad.

Scenario: a standard zombie apocalypse has happened. Roleplay yourself. You can be the biggest Mary Sue or tropey version of yourself you want, but it has to be based on you.

I don't remember if I formally announced that already but it seems to be the best day and I didn't really hear opposition.

We are reading Graceling by Kristen Cashore! After the discussion, I will begin taking recs for November.
