I never really understood this. I don't even think about race when shipping (probably because I started with anime which tends to be racially ambiguous because cartoons), and there are quite a few nonwhite characters in pairs I like but yeah, if I try and evaluate, white cock IS the majority in my ships, too. But tbh. I think that has less to do with not liking poc characters but with the fact that there are fewer poc characters in general AND fewer complex or gray or evil POC characters. Like, with starwars, I love stormpilot, but I'm not really interested reading fic for the obvious one and kinda more into the darker sort, BDSM, enemies to lovers, noncon, so I read mostly kylux and reylo.
same thing with, say, scrubs. yeah, turk and jd are cute and gay and so on but I'm kinda more interested in jd's daddy issues and his relationship with asshole cox or the janitor because there's more tension there. It's not the being white.

Yeah, but like... I'm not even IN these fandoms and I keep running into shit about how racist Klance is and how white people shouldn't ever try to write it because they can't possibly understand what it's like to be Space!Hispanic. Same with StormPilot. Same with Overwatch pairings (???).

Aren't most people attracted to what they group up around? as proven by studies? Hell, that is why people who grow up around mostly their own race have a hard time telling individuals in other races apart.

It is why (for the most part) people date inside their own racial groups. This is also exacerbated by the fact people often date inside their own socioeconomic and geographic groups.

So, OK. I ship based on who I think has chemistry and which couples are most canon. That currently does include slightly less interracial and nonwhite couples than it does couples who are two white guys, but that's largely due to how media demographics play out in what I'm currently into shipping. Like, sometimes it's impossible because there are no eligible POC characters to ship (e.g. Resident Evil 6- the only nonwhite MC is asian, female, and already in one of the most popular ships). Sometimes there's only one ship combo that makes sense and it just so happens to be an interracial couple (e.g. Army of Two, and fuck anyone who says Tyson Rios isn't black/hispanic).

It just feels kind of disingenuous to find the one POC guy in a show and pair him off with someone else because he is a POC. In fact, now that I type it out like that I'm pretty sure I'd have people on my case about fetishizing if I tried to do something like that.

So idk. It just seems kind of like there should be more shouting about representation and less about white cocks, you know?

What I don't understand is why those people seem to hate white people so much yet salivate at the thought of shipping PoC with them. Are they just tsundere or what?

I'll be honest, this only annoys me sometimes, and that sometimes is usually when I've either got an interracial OTP in the fandom or when the whiteboy ship is both fandom-eating and made up of my least favourite tropes. Or, I guess, when it seems particularly pointless, but I think that comes under 'least favourite tropes'. So for me it's honestly less about racism and more about people going for my least favourite tropes and against my favourite character combinations.

So for example Stony really annoyed me in the MCU, because I came from Iron Man and Tony/Rhodey was my ship, and also because Stony seemed to be riding on the comics, and also because Steve has enough people he can be shipped with so just go ship him with Bucky or something and leave Tony out of it. None of which are particularly laudible or high-minded reasons. I would say Clint/Phil annoyed me too, but to be honest I didn't care about Clint and mostly just didn't read it. And Rayleigh/Chuck annoyed me in Pacific Rim because for fuck's sake, was there no more pointless and stereotypical rival ship you could have gone for? At least Newt/Hermann, while still white dick, felt like it had some meat to it and ran on a slightly different set of tropes. (Also, if you're going to ship a Hansen, Herc/Stacker is an infinitely more interesting and painful option).

My problems in the M7 fandom were slightly different, in that people shipping Ezra with other people did seem to have a tendency to be actively racist towards Nathan, but I think a lot of it would boil down to my prefering Ezra/Nathan and wishing the whole fandom wasn't so bloody caught up in some combination of Ezra/Vin/Chris.

What I'm saying is, the tendency of fandom to go for certain types of ships probably annoys me mostly because they're almost never my favourite ships, rather than because it's often my interracial ships that get shafted. Though that too. But mostly it's because they pick the boring and/or annoying ones, if I'm honest.

And if you're wondering why white people wouldn't openly ship POC ships it's probably because they get accused of fetishizing or cultural appropriation, I've seen it before. If you're white then you can't draw/write a POC because they'll just get 15 anon messages saying "UM :) WOW YOU MAYONAISE WHITE BREAD :) NICE JOB FETISHIZING POC :) GO KILL YOURSELF LMAO :)" So don't act surprised when people walk on eggshells.

You're already accused anyone who might argue with you of being a whiny racist whitecock shipper. You might tell me I am, too, a racist whitecock shipper because I like some slash ships, and I'll tell you that I also like and ship POCs, and you will tell me there are just exceptions to my rule. I'll tell you that I don't think I care about race and you'll tell me it's a typical whitecock shipper defense.

The only way not to be racist is to agree with you. Thing is, for the (average) white fan, it's never about representation or race. It's just about fun, and bringing racism into it is making it not fun. Now I get that it's incredibly not fun for you, and for that I'm sorry, but if in one fandom I ship the whitecock instead of the cock of color, I'm not going to force myself to churn out a bunch of fics about cocks of color. No one will. It wouldn't be fun for me. You're more than free yourself to do it, though. Or leave comments/praise on the people who do.

I do feel like fandom is slowly getting better than that. It's a long process, though. Internet being what is it, the social justice inclined want change and they want it right now and perfect and never offending anyone, and that just won't happen. It's just setting yourself up for disappointment. Some people will grow and learn from harsh critique, but some people will just come back into their shells, or leave for greener pastures where it can be fun again.

This reminds me a little of the weird meta thing about how fandom likes to invent fanon characterizations for certain barely developed canon characters and the examples they gave were Fanon!Draco being the same as Fanon!Hux. But then their conclusion for why Harry/Draco was more popular than Harry/Ron was because fandom would rather ship the two white guys together even if they have to invent a personality for them. I'm still head-tilting at that one.
