I'm glad you like the pairing, cause I really start to feel that anyone who denies it, has no soul. XDDD

25. I've seen "arse" in published fiction. Smack-dab in the middle of Silverthorn, one of my favourite books, one of the characters tells another that the reason a supernatural monster reared up was because he "stuck it up the arse."

54. You rule. Totally. The end makes me cry too. (Granted, I'm 18, but still.)

65. ME TOO.

Re: 25,

[identity profile] alexandraerin.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's used in published fiction because it's an actual word. It's not just an accent thing. "Ass" is a donkey, "arse" is (or was, until American English split off) was the thing you sit on... if you wanted to Bowdlerize something so it was acceptable for mixed crowds, you'd change a line from "arse" to "ass", so it became a sort of euphemism... and when our country was founded by a bunch of Puritans, only the euphemism was judged acceptable.

So while I use "ass", being American, I'm fully aware that having a British/British-equivalent character use it is the equivalent of having a full grown adult talk about a man's "peepee" or a woman's "hoohoo."

Just something to think about. :P

Just because I care about something related to the internet, the fandoms, or something like that, doesn't mean that my life depends on it. Just because I express my opinion about it, doesn't mean it defines my whole life and every minute of my day.

80 - ME TOOOO

[identity profile] x-bluerose-x.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
#51 - I ship Doctor/Master as the ONLY canonical pairing for the Doctor (sorry other shippers), am VERY far from being vanilla, and still am squicked out by a lot of the fanfic, art, and manips out there. I think people are VERY confused on what BDSM really is. I also think that every person who writes sub!Ten hasn't actually watched the show and has no concept of the character's personality.

#61 - He's not, but even if he were, I'd still hit that with the fist of an angry god.

37

[identity profile] noni-moon.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see where you're coming from. but you know what? I can definetly say the exact same thing about A LOT of het fans, who would bash a gay couple but would swoon all over them if they were a het couple.

16. He's a bowling pin, ping pong balls, a lacrosse net, assorted tupperware and various bits and bobs. But I agree so hard!
He's an adorable little fella, regardless of who did his voice~
Also he often panics while making sandwiches. Haha.

23: UGH. I know how you feel. D= Except.. I kinda like that my fandoms aren't popular. I don't think I could put up with the wangst and drama that comes with popular fandoms.

54: LOVE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH. UNCLE DUKIE, UNCLE DUKIE. 8D

8. O HAI R U ME?

It wasn't always this batshit, I swear. I wish the crazy fangirls would crawl back into their holes and eat each other or whatever it is they do when they're not spewing fangirl goo all over the fandom :(.

14. On the one hand, I'm glad someone who actually looks like a real woman beat a bunch of walking twigs. On the other, she is NOT GODDAMN PLUS SIZE. Is a size 10 seriously considered plus size now? That's kind of disgusting.

15. I don't care for the show but I could look at that picture all day long. mrr. ♥

68. Word x 10000000000000.

70. I couldn't watch past the fourth or fifth episode of that, whichever one "Chi Forgets" is. I baww'd like a little bitch.

72. GET HELP

Not Secret 2: O_o?

02 - Millay is awesome. Some of her best moments were off-screen too.

18 - Tbh I can't even remember it that well, but I don't even want to rewatch it in fear of ruining that fuzzy nostalgia love. But it wasn't THAT bad.

49 - Oh god I remember that dog picture.

63 - I think everyone must get their fill of crack on /a/, so I kind of enjoy the 'sensible' side. I think the comm can be pretty fun.

10. Agreed.
31. Very true.
61. Very true.
64. Agreed.
66. Agreed about the Vespa! : ]
68. Agreed.
70. And I just feel weird watching at all. Ecspecially with titles like that. But I think that's the point, ne? Well, considering where Chi's on switch is...
71. Agreed. Kinda. But I'm not too sure about her having a big bust in the first place.
73. True but this is coming from a non-fan.
82. Agreed!

71) Yeah, it irks me when licensed stuff changes things about the character design. That game was pretty good, though. And it paid more attention to the GBA game, which recoloured everything and made Cafe Mew Mew look like Rainbow Brite's castle.

@25:

[identity profile] alexandraerin.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It jars you out of fics? If you have a British character (or British equivalent, like The Doctor) say "ass" when they mean somebody's rear-end, that's the same as making a grown adult talk in all earnestness about their "peepee" or "hoohoo." How jarring would that be?

The word is arse. "Ass" means donkey. It's sometimes used in British English as a euphemistic substitution (for instance, the Pogues were once famously asked to change a line from "arse" to "ass" in a live televised performance, and didn't).

The only reason we say "ass" here in America is because our country was founded by Puritans who refused to use anything but the euphemism. Writing a "Britfic" with "ass" in it makes as much sense as having all the swear words in French.

14. Not pathetic. She's gorgeous and she's proud of her curves, and if that helps you be proud of yours, I say it's a good thing.

19. Damn, that was a good rant. I didn't get off, but it sure got my heart rate up.

33. I'm a 30 year old professional, and my bookcase is more than half full of YA fiction. Solidarity! (Have you read Tamora Pierce? Or Diana Wynne Jones?)

61. I laughed my head off. And I agree.

83. I don't know of any comms, but I think I saw some Hotel Babylon prompts for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest. Claiming should start today or tomorrow.

Spread the YA love! I also rec'd Tamora Pierce (though I forgot about Jones, whoops).

[identity profile] lark2328.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The Twilight Zone is awesome! Still one of the best shows ever made IMHO.

33.

[identity profile] saaski-moql.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
NOT a big deal. It really shouldn't matter what you like to read. I'm a voracious reader and I happen to love "young adult" books right up there with the grown up stuff too. Those kinds of books can appeal to anyone; not limited to an age group! More proof? I get this from my mother who, yes, still reads that sort of thing (along with a bunch of grown-up-informative stuff too). Books are for everyone who choses to read them. That is why they are books.

And if you hadn't read it, The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Read is quite excellent, as are most of Tamora Pierce's series (I would rec The Magic Circle series and her The Defender of the Small books first and foremost). If you want something still in the sci-fi/fantasy realm complete with good read, but more "adult" (and very widely acceptable as such), you could try your hand at Terry Prachet. Start with Guards Guards.

Anon for the sake of avoiding wank.

37. You know, all the people who are screaming "Homophobe!" at you and posting condescending little messages are EXACTLY the reason I dislike hardcore yaoi fans. I'd say that you starting your message with "I'm not a homophobe, but" was a mistake, but, I don't think anything you could have said would have helped you. Saying "I dislike yaoi" in ANY context, for ANY reason, gets accusations by some of the hardcore folks of homophobia. I've met gay and bisexual people who don't like yaoi who get accused of being "homophobes" for it. Also, this kind of mentality is why I think people who enjoy canon gay and assorted non-canon m/m pairings in their fandoms, but who don't like ONE particular pairing (the "it" pairing in the fandom) get "homophobe" thrown at them.

You could have been more gentle in your message - put aside things words denoting "fear" and "anger," but, honestly, I don't think ANYTHING you said disfavoring yaoi and or slash would have been met with anything less - in MOST corners of fandom, fandomsecrets aside.

I'm sure a simple "I would like to see more het" would have been met with screaming. Hell, saying "I would like to see more gen" gets met with accusations of "elitism."

And, Fandomsecrets - it's a narrow strip of fandom, but really, I've found it gives a good cross-section of general fandom attitudes. It's another thing to confirm for me that I'm just not as intersted in sex (yaoi, het, whatever) as the average online fan. *Shrug.* I find the place scary for all the "I'D HIT IT!" and "I SHIP IT!" secrets -- Who the hell bloody cares? I don't care. I don't think people should be afraid to like characters they want to like, nor to ship what they want to ship. Yaoi/slash or het.

[identity profile] avenginglyyours.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
21. I shipped them too, but in a "break my brain so the movie isn't so boring" way. Does that make any sense?
(Dans un registre totalement différent, il faut aussi voir le film Mon Meilleur Ami qui peut provoquer un trauma profond parce qu'on finit par slasher Dany Boon et Daniel Auteuil D:)

46. TWILIGHT ZONE ♥ I seriously think if all the TZ fans on this post united, they could take over the world. Is there a comm where we can all gather to plot?

21 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-23 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
10. Waaaaaaaahhhh

16. Love the art. Though personally, I'd rather Servo. So cute!

25. If the fandom/character the fic is using is American, then yes, that is stupid. If it's British, then sorry, you take yourself too seriously.

32. ZOMGOSH I LOVE YOU!!! I wish I'd commented sooner. I got into Gen X because of Jono, but Angelo rocks my socks. I was furious when they killed him off, because I'm sure he's not important or "cool" enough to make it back, but man, I loved that liddle bad boy from the barrio.

33. Twilight makes me :| but Bruce Coville makes me ^_^

34. Oh share it share it share it! I know what you mean about it being hard to share things with people when they mean a lot to you, but I don't think anyone I've shown Firefly to hasn't loved it and gone out to buy their own copy, then converted ten friends of their own. It's viral!

37. *Applause* You win.

44. He freaked the crap out of me too.

46. Twilight Zone? AWESOME! Tell a remarkable and thought-provoking story in less than a half-hour? Rod Sterling, I want your writing babies!

51. I agree. They're sexy and all, but I think honestly, all the Master's plans are just his way of going "PAY ATTENTION TO ME DOCTOR!!!"

56. Booya! I am Radio.

37

[identity profile] commaqueen.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know who you are, but I wish I did. I feel the same way. ;{ Het needs some love too, folks. The vagina doesn't make it inherently evil folks!

40

(Anonymous) 2008-05-23 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
40. Sadly all the scenes between them in which they are naked, supporting each other for no particular reason or being compared to each other is enough to make many an addicted shipper. Yes, the creator is teasing you, but doesn't that just making it more fun?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/___sasuka/ 2008-05-23 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
57) ;____; Is it wrong that I think he looks absolutely beautiful in that image, more so than ANYTHING else Amano's drawn him in?

58

[identity profile] asmaria.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh MAN.

AOL still has Sailor Moon RP chats? I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I stopped doing that back when I got rid of AOL... like, 10 years ago. @_@;

I... I feel old.

And nostalgic too. ;_;

My RP was horrible, but I still had fun. We made up 'silver senshi' back when no one had heard of that cliche, cause we had the first round of screen names based on them. ;;;

(Anonymous) 2008-05-23 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow.

I'm not alone on that ship?

Sweet.
