NS!1. That's...a really good question. Valdemar in general has all the elements you'd expect for a big, messy fandom. I wonder if it's just because it was started before internet fandom exploded all over messageboards, forums, and Livejournal?

ETA that I forgot about Mercedes Lackey being the anti-fandom type. Considering how much Valdemar resembles cheesy fanfiction, it's pretty funny...

10. Possible reasons people make an OC in an established canon:

1) They want to use that OC to provide a fresh viewpoint on the canon characters (I like doing this).
2) They like the setting and want to play with it themselves.
3) ...they want a Mary Sue, lol. But it's not all that.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have much to do with "there aren't enough characters" (except in fandoms where...there aren't).

Not that you can't dislike OCs yourself, but, y'know.

18. I started watching GW some months back and enjoyed it plenty. I didn't finish it, but that was just because I got distracted (I, uh, do that a lot), not because I thought it sucked. So that's your theory disproved! All it takes is one counterexample, you know. 8)

...I mean, I'll admit that it sucks as much as any cheesy mecha anime with improbably teenage characters (like this is just a failing of Wing??), but "people only like X because they are deluded in Y way" statements are dumb.

I agree very much. I don't know quite why it all has to be so fucked up with Doctor/Master. I mean, there's the ending the world issue but the Master wasn't always like that, and never really seemed past some level of salvation. He'd still be a bit off base, but I doubt to the point that the Doctor couldn't deal with it.

Heh. I'm such a Master apologist. I just...they were all in love and stuff. And it was sweet and lovely. I want some of that in fic. Not fluff exactly, because that would be weird, but it doesn't have to be quite so mentally destructive. I don't mind BDSM, and yes the Master has a power thing, but...perhaps they could cuddle afterwards and be as totally, obvious in love as they were in canon.

Um. I'm not really in Dr Who fandom, barely at all in Doctor/Master (because I dislike so much of the fic). I needed to voice that.

14 - I wasn't crazy about Whitney. I liked plus-size models from other seasons better. (But I don' really pay attention to ANTM.)

37 - I do think there's some truth in that. Especially in anime fandoms.

43 - Murder By Numbers was pretty damn homoerotic. Like where Ryan Gosling sleeps with that girl that the other guy likes just to screw with him? And their interactions seem all about seduction.

65 & 80 - Animorphs again! I haven't read Visser, but the other Chronicles were really good. Cross-species relationships, yes.

74 - I think Hakkai was pretty screwed up when he was still Gonou. (...but I still ship Gonou/Kanan.)

37: like I mentioned to someone above, I got the strong impression that the OP's annoyance is not that, OMG yaoi exists, but the very sympathetic feeling of, YAY, yaoi exists, but why can't het exist too? I can sympathize with this feeling because I ship a pairing that is just as hawt/screwed up/whatever as the fandom's favorite slash pairing... and while I would NEVER ask for less slash, I do wish people gave my pairing some more love so that they were equal.

33. Bruce Coville! <3 I heartily recommend the “Aliens Ate My Homework” series (canon gay aliens FTW!). Gaiman’s “Coraline” is fantastic, and you might want to try out ”His Dark Materials”. I actually didn’t like it as much as some others, but it’s fairly popular. Oh, and Animorphs, though maybe just the first two dozen or so...

41. Whenever I think of this show and fanservice, I hear the Monarch crowing in my head, “That’s right! I’m blogging!” I think the writers all well-aware of their Dean-Girls (who are not to be confused with SPN Dean-Girls).

42. I wouldn’t worry about labeling yourself. I think most people actually don’t completely fall in the categories of straight, gay, or bi (which implies through its name that you like both genders equally, which… often isn’t it.).

A good book is a good book. I'm 22, and I just started reading Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & The Olympians series. I was a bit shocked to find the books were in the children's section, but upon reading the first one I fell in love with the series.
