OH GOD, THE ET DOLLS. DX Those make me cry They played it recently on Nickelodeon, I think, and they kept having ads for it...I had to mute the TV and look away, 'cause his voice and everything about him just freaks me the fuck out. I'm sorry the picture scared you! D: I told her to find something "ET enough" without freaking me out...the little lump is a bit too identifying, but I was afraid if I didn't have a picture, no one would read it. :/

16. Well, Crow is teh sex.
44. The first time I saw the Dalek-human hybrid (http://blog.project76.tv/Images/WDL4Bo_blogRadioTimesDalek.jpg) on the cover of the Radio Times, I thought I was going to die of horror. It seriously fucked me about. Thankfully he was far less revolting in the rubber flesh. So: I sympathise.
46. Number Twelve Looks Just Like You.
51. This gave me a mental image of a post-coital Master purring, "Curses, foiled again."
52. So did our hairdresser, who referred to him as "that duck-rabbit thing" and found him "seeeeew funny". We still quote her.
56. THAT (*&%(*%()% CLOWN
60. Buddha was brilliant. I was moved again and again.
61. Imagine Crow's!

07. ♥ That's weird because I said something like that today.

25. I can't stand that word in general. Esp if Americans use it wtf.

37. I agree with you SO HARD.

43. OHMYGOD. You are now my BFF. After first watching it, I was just convinced they were sleeping together. I still am. And damn!! Now I need to watch it!!! XD ilu.

64. No way, I know exactly what you mean and fully agree.

82. JLID:SJFISIOSFOQUJ!IOJI! FUCKING YES!!! Just... omfg. I will not get into, but just - YES!
(CC was good for young!Zack and Cloud and... ...that was it. XD! Not like 7 was that hard to play ppl!)

Reply to 7.

Did you? That's ironic. XD It's good to know I'm not the only one.

[identity profile] dia-aren-marie.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
10. While I'm usually not interested in fan characters, I can understand the appeal in creating some to play around with the settings of an existing canon universe. But I personally think as long as they don't overshadow the official characters and are written well, then it's not so bad.

What I don't really understand is when people make so many OCs and change so many things about the canon universe that... it's pretty much original work. :| Except... not really. But they might as well go that path.

(Kinda why I never understood AUs, although I'm kiiind of getting the idea of them a little better now...)

43. FUCK YES MURDER BY NUMBERS. I saw this when I was still in my school's Math club in 1st year high... and I was in like... a hardcore Catholic school that seethes at any and all mention of homosexuality. SO I'M SURPRISED THEY SHOWED THIS FILM. XD

I'm surprised they weren't going at it, actually. VROOM.

60. I was really touched by this secret. No, really. It's awesome. ♥ Props to you, OP.

72. ... D8

[identity profile] jessicamariek.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
69. Thank you for this. The exact reason I like Shinji is that he seems like a real person, not a superhero shonen star.

72. ... well. OK then. *runs away*

[identity profile] pavonine.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
10. I've seen a few OCs work. Most of them tend to overpower the story. I think the secret is to have the OC in no more than 40% of the chapter/fic/whatever, and to never write from their perspective.

20. ALL THE THINGS SHE SAID ALL THE THINGS SHE SAID RUNNIN' THROUGH MY HEAD *falsetto* RUNNIN' THROUGH MY HEAD

22. Yes. Yes it is. Troll?

23. So you try to publicize it, but hide its nature in a secret?

Paradoxical secret is enigmatic.

27. Carpal tunnel from Geetar Hiro?

Now I have two things from which to contract carpal tunnel: writing and Guitar Hero. Awesome, great.

29. My, what a lovely rose tint his cheeks have!

33. THE UNICORN CHRONICLES SQUEEEEEEDESU~

Read Meg Cabot's "Size Twelve Is Not Fat" and its sequels. They're good. That, Artemis Fowl, and A Series of Unfortunate Events, assuming you haven't read those already.

37. ... you seem a little close-minded. Het's shipped a lot too, but maybe those het shippers aren't as vocal. Most people ship het and slash, not just one exclusively. Your eyes, open them.

Also, you came off sounding homophobic.

Just to let you know.

38. I think there's a lot of Highlander fic; every time I come across a metafic site, they always mention Highlander. That, Star Trek, Buffy and The Sentinel.

56. Worthless = commentary on disposable society, and I will post that tidbit to every Brave Little Toaster secret I find.

59. I like them, too, but I prefer Cartman/Wendy and Stan/Kyle. And Kenny/everyone, or Kenny/Butters. Or Butters/Bradley. South Park is shippable.

61. And somehow, his cocked eyebrow challenges your statement.

"OCH RLY, WELL. MY TEN-INCH MANROD, LET ME SHOW YOU IT."

72. Well good for you.

77. Mpreg on The Fairly Oddparents is not fairly odd, but kind of expected. They've gotta come up with something.

59 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-22 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yes, Cartman/Wendy's my OTP, but that's why I'm baffled by my inability to apply anyone but a pairing I'm kind of "there" one to happy couple songs.

It's mix'n'matchable.

Re: 20

God, me too. Me too. Someone told me they'd broken up (as a band) and had said they were tired of pretending to be a couple. I was incredibly happy when they released another CD, three years later. (2005, "Dangerous and Moving".)

I too know it's silly. But dammit, Lilith-Fair music isn't for me. These are my "pronouns in the right places" ballads. ♥

05, 10, 12, 18, 31, 33, 37, 39, 61, 72, 80, 84, NS!1

(Anonymous) 2008-05-22 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
05. No, I agree.

10. No. Sometimes they're necessary, even if only as plot devices. And because, come on, it's downright stupidly unrealistic to have characters never interact with OCs, especially in long fics; there just aren't enough canon characters in anything for that.

(I can't say I really approve of them as more than background/props, though. No OC/canon character romances or next-gen fics for me, thank you very much.)

12. Because the fans are batshit or because you hate shounen stuff?

18. Yeeeeeah, I didn't get all the hype when I finally sat down and watched it, either. I've been told the fandom is what really makes it, but... how can you be in a fandom for something you just feel perfectly meh about?

31. ...wow, your "friend" is an idiot.

33. YA fantasy novels often turn out more interesting than adult ones. Trufax.

37. I like het pairings. I like gay pairings (mostly femslash, which you know, don't even GO there, because it's practically nonexistent in most fandoms). But yeah, I kinda see what you mean -- people who are rabidly yaoi-obsessed, who "don't do het," as one person said to me once, who seem to possess a loathing (or even fear) of vaginas, piss me the fuck off. CHRIST, AT LEAST GIVE IT A TRY.

(but, um, "scary" is a bit ridiculous, there. You do realize people here on f!s blow everything out of proportion, right?)

39. O HAI TALES OF MU SECRET :D

...wait wait wait what? People are trying to say Mack has to choose? What the fuck? D: (In other words: I totally agree with you, OP. But maybe it's because I've been a polyshipper for so long that I can't even imagine that some people are still so dead-set in pairings-only stuff.)

61. lol

72. ...yeah, right.

80. FUCK YEAH THE SPINOFFS WERE AWESOME. :D Okay, so I've only read the Hork-Bajir Chronicles, but FUCK YEAH IT WAS AWESOME.

84. Agreed. (Though honestly, I can't read fic by people who've clearly only played CC either... but that might be because all I find in terms of CC fic is lousy OOC SOLDIER porn that has zero connection to the original game at all.)

Not!Secret 1: Lackey is one of those who frowns on internet fanfic, sorry. There's like an "official" fanclub or something for her Valdemar stuff, but outside that's a no-no.

Honestly, though, they were fun for a light read, but didn't really seem, at least to me, to lend themselves much to fandom-ish stuff, anyway.

d'oh

You know, the only pairings I've ever seen universally outcasted by fandom are femslash pairings. And rarely do I see femslash fans crying phobia. But I suppose the "slashers are crazy heterophobes" and "het fans are crazy homophobes" nonsense will always continue. Rest assured, het will always, always live on in canon. I think that means there must be a fanbase for it. Even Queer as Folk has het in its fandom, seriously.

10. I don't like original characters when they're a main love interest or something - those usually make me feel as if they're a Mary Sue of some sort...but the random background character or something of the sort doesn't usually bother me. I do see your point, though.

(Some of my favourite books, read and re-read between the age of 10 and 24, now :) )

Diana Wynne Jones. Tad Williams' War of the Flowers.

I also love the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer, and that's for even younger kids. :D (The audio books are great, I love the narrator's accent.)

Monica Furlong's Wise Child
Maj Bylock (if there are any English translations available)
Tonke Dragt (the same)
Margaret Mahy's The Changeover
Patricia Wrightson's Wirrun trilogy
Otfried Preußler's The Satanic Mill

Maybe Elyne Mitchell, if animal stories are of any interest (it's been a while since I read some of her books, but back then I loved them)
Marion Zimmer Bradley's Lythande and other short stories (I disliked many of her other books for dragginess, especially Mists of Avalon, but I enjoyed some of her short stories and some of the darkover stories)
... I shall stop now.
