12: I think it's a silly reason to avoid things for sure. But what do you mean by "shows like this"? You dislike hero's journey's? Stories with a large cast? Adventure? Fantasy? Ninjas?

18: Er... I don't know your circles, but GW has got very little respect compared to the older series. And new fans tend to see it as "old junk", funnily enough. I like it a lot myself, but that's my opinion. (The pilots are 15, turning 16 in Endless Waltz, though, and their age is adressed in canon.)

25: Maybe you are a bit Americanised? I mean, you did say it was a British fandom.

33: I've known a lot of doctors (from certain part-time jobs and family members' workplaces), and the amount of idiots among them are pretty much the same there as in any other field, I'd say.

That said, there's nothing wrong with appreciating childrens/young adult books. Some of them are excellent. Though some of them are also truly awful. *eyes Twilight*

37: "Scary"? "Furious"? Some strong feelings on a fandom phenomenon, there. Since, you know, Het pairings dominate published media to the extent that everything else is pretty much non-existant. Which is one of the main reasons it flourishes in fandom. It's the only place it's allowed to exist.

Het pairings are still the most popular, generally. You just have to look outside of the journal-based fandom.

40: You think their personalities would make a potential relationship really interesting? They have the dynamics you like in relationships?

69: Yes. Shinji is love.

(not not not not NOT OP ._.;)

Interesting point. Taking in that this IS a secrets community, doesn't that say they are embarrassed about shipping, and aren't about het, only?

Fuck, the number of Animorphs secrets this time around delights me. KEEP 'EM COMING, GUYS.

65. Me too. Me too.

80. I rate the Chronicles and spinoff books as some of the best in the series. Visser Chronicles is one of my favorite tragic love stories everywhere - I don't think anyone could reasonably blame you. It was always amazing to see what Animorphs could be given more space to play in.

17. I LOVE YOU, AS WELL AS BOTH KAIBAS.

37. Your problem is not that you're focusing on the majority, but you're completly oblivious to the opinions of the MINORITY. Not all fans of slash/yaoi give a cold shoulder to het pairings. It might be harder to find us, but WE'RE OUT THERE.

47. I'M... kind of with you. I constantly check out /cm/, but I'm also a pretty frequent browser of /c/, /u/, and /h/. Not-so-much /y/ because I never seem to be able to find anything good there anymore. D:

54. ROCK A DOODLE. I adored Don Bluth's films when I was a kid, and I still do. ♥

68. Fucking seconded.

YAY THANK YOU ILU YOU TOO you're like the 3rd person or something who said they watch both ;~;

i guess the fandoms are so disparate it can't be helped

FUCK YES. The writing almost seems to be geared towards an older audience for me. And god, the Ellimist Chronicles? Incredible. All the ideas presented in that book are just amazing and are written in a way that acutally seems believable. I loved it.

[identity profile] iapetusneume.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The Chronicles are full of awesome. And it was because of them that I developed a huge crush on Elfangor. (And Dak Hamee.)

I think you are awesome, anon! And what's wrong with love for the Chronicles over love of the main series? You can't really appreciate one without the other, and you clearly like both. Of course, I might just still be incredibly biased for Elfangor and Dak.
fuyu: (knock you all down!)

10

[personal profile] fuyu 2008-05-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, no.

I do understand how you feel - I certainly don't go to fandom looking for OCs - but you can't reasonably say that there should be no OCs in fandom ever. What about plot-heavy stories where canon characters don't have the right histories/aren't in the right positions/don't have the right personalities/just generally can't perform a role that is called for by the story?

Just as an example, I'm plotting a Phoenix Wright casefic with some of my friends. The plot is designed to confront Phoenix with some issues we saw that the games never made him deal with, because we thought it would be really interesting to see and would further his character. The fic is absolutely full of OCs, because there is no way we could use existing canon characters to set up the situation. There just isn't, it wouldn't work. So we designed OCs.

Granted, some fandoms are more like that than others. PW is probably one of the most OC-friendly fandoms out there, there's plenty of fandoms where the canon characters really are all you need. But you can't just out-and-out dismiss all OCs. Some stories do need them an sometimes they really can bring something valuable to an idea.

(This is of course assuming that they are good OCs. Mary Sues need not apply.)

Dr. Who fandom is full of BDSM and stockholm syndrome? What? How did I not know that? I am suddenly feeling 2346642 times better about my sneaking suspicion/fear that your zombie fandom is sooner or later going to eat my brains.

In fact, I am kind of tempted to move 'catching up with new who' to the top of my to do list.

Yes. Yes it is. At least on the Master/Doctor side of things.

And, you know, I guess if rape/torture/snuff fic is your thing, then you'd enjoy it. But for the most part it's gotten kind of really sick and enough is enough IMHO. B|

1 orz only really works in lower case >.> Otherwise the arms look really freaky and they're not connected to the legs... Also, beautiful secret.

07 I hear you. My uncle is sick with we have NO idea what. The Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins both have no idea, and all can think is, if House was a real doctor, my uncle would nearly die but get fixed shortly thereafter (lol).

15 I don't watch this show, so for a second there I thought it was a manip of Sheppard and McKay... *facepalm*

56 BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER SECRET!!! \o/

61 Why do I think to myself 'wow, someone's got a little too much time on their hands' here?

06: I worry about the eye maker too. And JF makes me sad, all alone in that huge building with just the toys...but the ending of the film has hope in it, which is what I love.

25: Well, British people don't say 'ass' so it would be pretty hard to write a fic with British characters where they did...

37: People writing about what turns them on is scary? Huh, ok. I hate het-bashing, but I don't see what harm the predominant LJ culture being slash can do.

Because of your secret alone it reminded me just how much love I had for that series. I'm actually looking online to order the season dvd box set, I just hope there's one.
And I'm happy for you that he gave you strength.

52
Oh God I thought I was the only one! Everyone else slandered the Hell out of him and I felt so alone when people talked about him. I wanted to say how much I loved him as a character but I can imagine the reaction that'd earn me. Even today.

60
Very wise man with very wise words. I love all of his work too.

77
Er, yeah. One of my friends adores the show like crazy and I have to admit I barfed into my mouth a little when I heard about this. MPREG? CANON? And in... Fairy Odd Parents of all things? Man...

12. Your loss dear.

33. I like most of those books a considerable amount. But I guess being a 20 year old preschool teacher makes it, well, I probably wouldn't care either way.

34. I actually have a brown leather jacket that I got second hand that I wear proudly all the time (when it's seasonably appropriate). No one ever gets it, but I still smile. Browncoats unite, cause Firefly is the love!

44. Scared me like hell. As a kid and now. Wow. Evil.

14. i wouldn't feel bad because of that, but i was just mad that she won because it was so fucking set up. :/ i felt that toccara was a much better plus size model. idk whitney could never close her fuckin mouth in a picture and just seemed more like a pretty girl than a model. but that show is a joke anyway bc it's so obvs rigged.

54. OMG that was totally my favorite movie when I was little!

58. AOL RP started sucking after like 2003, maybe. Possibly earlier. I think everyone grew up and moved out of ~Rhydin~. Or just moved to LJ RPs, I don't know. Oh memories.

72. Wtf??? Seek help.

58 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-23 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
lol, we got rid of our AOL in 2003. I don't know how it went down after that, but it was still going strong when I stopped. I recently got the free AOL to see if the RP rooms were still around and I was completely floored to see that Rhydin was still around. D:

ass -- an animal or an idiot
arse -- gluteus maximus

There is a reason why we use 'arse'
Because ass and arse are two completely different things.

If i can handle typing html in an American way despite how much it pisses me off (WHY MUST YOU EAT MY VOWELS?), i'm more than sure you can handle seeing the word 'arse' in a fic.
