143. Yeah, the aliens were just...I mean, where the hell did that come from? The fight scenes were great, but the aliens just jumped the bloody shark and then had buttsex with it.

144. How do you think they did it before tampons were invented?

153. Me too. I was all zomg slashy yay and then the big reveal and then I felt bad.

174. Nuh-uh! Father son teamups! They can bond while running from Nazis.

...there are actually people who like Larrin other than me? Man. Well. That explains the US of A getting hit with a cold front.

And, no, you're not alone. It would be hot.

144

[identity profile] dishfacecracker.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
ME TOO.

Though I wondered that when I was watching Digimon. If mean, they were at the age where it might just suddenly come, so they're not prepared. What do they do? D8

[identity profile] soulrockcandy.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Holy Indy day. and... wtf numbers.

143. I think they just made it LOLALIENS because these days people get their panties in a twist if there's even the slightest implication that the bible might have been right or it might have been wrong or it's all a conspiracy. Society I tells ya.
Still, LOL ALIENS.

168. Agreed. The book is what got me into the fandom, but the TV series fleshes out the characters more and that's what makes a good show. Also TV*Dexter/Rita is adorable. :<

174. An Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford would... just not be an Indiana Jones movie, man. Neato as Shia is.

(Anonymous) 2008-05-29 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Apologies if I'm being rude but your icon made me crack completely up. |3 (also word on Dexter/Rita)

144. I've thought about this. I've also wondered just what the people in those games eat for meat. I mean, they don't have normal cows or chickens or anything. Do the people in the Pokemon world actually eat the Pokemon, too?

If so, that's some fucked up shit.

[identity profile] karma-kalisutah.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see how that's more fucked up than eating animals. Because they keep pokémon as companions? So do we.

174: Wtf? You can't REPLACE Indiana, and there can never be a NEW Indy. That's like trying to replace Bugs Bunny or Doc Brown or have the second coming of Mr Miyagi. Just dont work.

I've run into a bunch of those types too. Half the kids I work with have never even SEEN the original trilogy and thought Crystal Skull was "silly." WTF!

117

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I used to feel exactly the same way. Hell, I wouldn't even have a paid account for my own personal journal. When I realized just how -cheap- they are, though I reconsidered.

As someone else said in previous comments - facial expressions are key in some/a lot of RPs. Hell, I used to RP on GJ because they allowed 1,000 usericons back before they... crashed. So, that sort of thing is very important to certain people. *Shrugs*

Also. This is my personal journal. Just, because I don't want to risk someone looking into it and freaking out that I have 'so many' icons for a 'RP account'. /defendingself.

Re: 117

(Anonymous) 2008-05-28 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
It would be awesome if those icons were for an RP journal, though. I mean, imagine: what would that make the odd ones out? The Nyu and Kurama icons? (Or more, I just glanced at your lot, really.) Would they represent Ed's cosplaying tendencies? It's like a fanfic waiting to happen.

I completely agree. I simply adore the tv series. I read the first book while knowing it would be completely different, and ... it didn't make sense at all. The characters are poor stereotypes, key points get ignored, there are plot holes everywhere, and the writing's sub-par. The only good thing is the idea behind the POV, and the spark that ignited the tv series, which blows the book well out of the water.

Usually, I'm always an avid fan of books over their tv/movie counterparts, but in this case I'll have to agree: the script is better than the novel. Sorry, Jeff Lindsay.

112. it's all about finding your inspiration. rock on with it, and never let anyone knock you for where it came from-- mine came from playing D&D, and it's given me more purpose to use all that supposed potential than anything else ever could have.

115. the trick is figuring out what qualities about that fictional character you came to appreciate, and learning how to translate that into what you want from someone else.

148. haha, that's AMAZING. for real. :)

143: I am going to see that movie today and you spoiled the ending! Bad you! Actually I don't care. You confirmed my worst fears because Sci-Fi channel had mentioned the whole alien bits that are apart of the crystal skull legend. Oh well, I guess since there was is always some supernatural element to the movies I shouldn't be too disturbed by this but Aliens and Indiana jones just seems like crossing genres.

174: I haven't heard people saying that. Of course the people I hang with are old enough to realise that Harrison ford is like fine wine who only gets better with age but the thought that there are people that think that ANYONE else could be Indian Jones makes me loose respect for the fandom.

[identity profile] yuumeko.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:14 am (UTC)(link)

... k no anyway. I don't think she looks Asian, either. And when people choose PBs for her that are? IT IRKS ME TO NO END. I think she could pass as Italian, too. Or Greek, maybe. I know her name is made-up, but it sounds like something you'd hear out of the Mediterranean area.

I think she looks quite similar to Camilla Belle, who is, to my knowledge, not Asian.

117: Have some TL;DR.

[identity profile] crimsonobsessor.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
I've been in my current RP since October and don't plan on leaving any time soon, as I'm having more fun than I think I've had in years. I already have a permanent account on my normal journal (though I never use it anymore cause I'm always RPing, whoops) so that's not an issue.

I'm also absolutely addicted to the paid features. Going to Journalfen makes me sad now because there is no expand feature. Edit is a life-saver for obvious reasons. Tracking comments comes in handy for the bimonthly kink meme and other anonymous posting. And yes, I am very much an icon whore; I love making my own icons and using others', and utilize the majority of them on a very regular basis, though I'm nearing my 100 pic limit. I'd like to think I'm using my icons to good effect, as my character (like most other characters) has a wide variety of expressions, some of which are only subtly different but mean entirely different things.

On top of all of this, I stopped paying for WoW because I spend most of my free time RPing. Giving up a $45/every 3 months habit for one that costs only $4 every month or two and gives me far more enjoyment doesn't seem like such a crime, in my opinion, and I'm not going to apologize for indulging in my favorite hobby in the way that gives me the most enjoyment. :)

Hi.

I just wanted to support your TL;DR extremely. Even if this journal is not a good example of the whole using icons to good effect. Edit, Expand and Tracking options are life savers, though.

My replies are always way too long.

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
101. That... is downright freaking HILARIOUS aksfhakfkf for some reason I am inclined to say you are a winner.

102. DDDD: Okay, moving to a new fandom I can understand- some people just get bored- but deleting shit and pretending they never liked the old fandom? That's full of shit. ): Here's hoping you can make some less fickle friends.

117. Um, no. In fact, I know my muses don't give a shit about anything. Because they aren't real. =D But I do think that I enjoy having more icons to choose from, that I'm not limited to fifteen icons and expressions but have a wider range. This is especially useful in RPs that have random events, where the character might get younger, older, switch genders, etc and so forth, but even just pulling from canon, some characters have a LOT of different shades of emotions that you can get across better with more icons, as well as with writing.

Yes, people are willing to spend money on their hobbies. Gasp, shock and awe, I know. It's totally unlike spending money on any other hobby you have, is it? Well, no. No, it's not. So people are willing to shell out a bit to enjoy their experience a bit more? If you're sickened by that, then something's wrong with you.

... And since I know people who do this, I'll just end this with the hope that one of your "RP buddies" buys one of your RP accounts paid time. Maybe extra icon space too, while we're at it. =D Have fun with that. I wonder if it'll disgust you as much as someone buying their own paid time?

119. OMG YOU'RE SO EDGY. And of course two characters who are gay, it's only possible that people love them because they're gay. Etc etc, next.

120. I never get the HAET for kink memes and fans who enjoy porn. What, because we like to read and write porn means automatically that we're worthless, shallow fans who are no good for anything else? Just because an anonymous on a kink meme writes and reads porn doesn't mean that they aren't, yanno, possibly the author of that fic you favorited because you thought it was really deep and well-characterized.

Short-form version, fandom opinion depresses me more often than not. SIGH.

124. AGREED.

126. THAT SONG DDDDDDDDDDDDD: Also, fuck yeah, continuing trend of Brave Little Toaster secrets. YOU PEOPLE ARE AWESOME, WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE SO AWESOME?

128. Chad is amazing

130. If you're bothered by fans, being fans, then all I can suggest is that you stay out of fandom in general. I'm not even trying to be mean here, but there's no fandom, NONE, for real people/bands or any fictional series, where there aren't fans going "so-and-so is so hot!" about the people/characters involved. It just doesn't happen, so calm down and enjoy it, or stay calm and bow out.

136. Pfft, troll. I'm sorry, no one says that they were "cured" of yaoi, but "backslid" and feel terrible about liking it again because they'd "seen the light." Unless they're a Vic Mignogna fanbrat, but I digress...

137. Yeah, it's hard to draw lines sometimes, really, and I tend to be wary when someone says a fanfic has an OC in it. But OC =/= Mary Sue on automatic, and even Canon Character/OC doesn't mean the OC is a Mary Sue. It depends on how the character is written, and how the relationship is approached.

143. I really, really, really hate the phrase "inferior fan" anyway. Just sayin'.

144. Fffffft, Pokemon trainers never have to worry about that kind of thing! Just like they never have to go to the bathroom, or change their clothing unless their clothes are an important plot point.

ALTERNATIVELY, TO BE MORE DISTURBING, I decree that Pokemon Trainers lay eggs just like Pokemon do.

Oh I have NO qualms admitting I like the smut, the porn and the kinks. I also think there's a healthy mix of fantastic and standard writers in all kink-memes, just as you'll find all over the web.

It's the fact that I'm one of those fans of SP (with the bishonen-making and so on) who I used to think were loveable-but-very-odd that I'm ashamed of.

P-part 2. Just like apps!

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
147. ... you have just made Colbert = Wolfram, and Jon Stewart = Yuri for me. Forever.

I LOVE YOU.

148. Hahaha, I've done that before. It's really convenient. oAo

152. Hahaha, overreactive fan is overreactive. Who the hell cares what the song is originally about? The point ISN'T what it's originally about. I've seen Relient K's "I Am Understood," which is about, gasp, a relationship with God, used as a romantic song, and the lyrics are perfect for some couples. That song? Seems to fit the Master. And your opinion? The fans who seem to be having fun, and who might know FULL WELL what the song is originally about, probably don't care about it.

155. Awwww, hon, it's okay. *hugs* Everyone starts somewhere. No one has "exclusive" characters, or if they do, they should know full well that they don't have a claim on ANY character they don't already play. Just join up somewhere as whoever you like, try to get a feel for the voice, ask questions if you have any, and have fun! ♥

156. I really can't give too much advice here, but I just want to say: it sounds like fandom may have made you realize something, not influenced you completely. Either way, though, it's right to take a step backward and think about things as seriously and deeply as possible before making any major decision like that. Good luck with whatever you choose ♥

166. akjsfhaj I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD KNOW THAT. WHAT IS IT.

167. Are you kidding? At least the Sweet Valley books were decent. ): I have heard no such thing about Twilight.

169. *hugs you tight* I'm so sorry, even if I don't know you.

170. IAWTC.

171. TOP TWO AWESOME, bottom two not my cup of tea. 8D

172. Hahaha, so do I. Not from there, per se, but g-god do need walkthroughs yes. ;;

not!secret #1: Your last lines made me laugh so hard I choked on cracker. XD BUT IAWTC IN ALL ITS SENTIMENTS. YES. PLZ.

too!big #2: Fiction =/= Reality is, sadly, one of those truths a huge chunk of fandom never seem to be able to grasp.
