The mcu fandom imo got 10x more toxic and less fun after aou premiered, so I'm not that surprised.

Both politics on the Internet, and world politics in general, also started getting way crazier on a massive scale shortly after AOU came out. I just want to point that out as a general factor here. Everything and everywhere started going to shit very soon after that point.

Look, I am black, and I don't know where this bitch gets the idea that they're the queen of fandom and they get to decree how the rest of us stan. But seriously, using one fan's crazy as an example of why we can't have nice things is *also* bullshit. What happened to minorities not being a monolith? This fan doesn't represent me, or speak for me and I resent the fact that: A.) *They* presume it's okay to speak for all of us. B.) Anyone else letting them have that authority, or presuming that all black people everywhere agree.

Wow, people really like to misinterpret this rant, don't they. She's not saying that non-black people are not allowed to watch and enjoy the film. She's asking people not to be racist when discussing it and/or creating fanworks. Black folks aren't exactly swimming in big-screen superheroes, so it would be disheartening for them if they went looking around the fandom, only to find racist language everywhere. Yeah, it's kinda angrily worded, but politeness tends to get ignored.

All those awful Tumblrites around the world, grossly fetishizing Boseman by thinking he's fit and referring to him in the same way as all the other hot guys they like.

It would be better if, like, we had a segregated film industry so black people could watch their own characters in their own films, in their own specially designated cinemas. And, like, maybe we could ensure that there is never any crossover in the industry because that would only encourage appropriation. The world would surely be a better place then.

I have just had to accept that Black Panther has been claimed by the wackier end of the "black pride" element. At least I can read about Luke Cage, with his white wife and mixed daughter; and Storm, who is canonically attracted to American Indian men; and Spectrum, who's actually recognizably African-American to me and not fantasy!African.

Black Panther, at least since the Priest run, is to Afro-centrism as Wonder Woman is to feminism. It seems like tryhard nonsense to me, too detached from anything in the real world to mean much of anything.

An actual African superhero from a real country would be cool. I wonder if I will ever see one.

I don't like superhero movies. IMHO they are boring, but then I am also not interested in Marvel comics or other superhero comics. I do read comics, just not superhero comics. It feels like they are superficial, about contrived topics, and just propagates a worldview I don't agree with.

To me it feels like there is a bunch of superhero movies coming out all the time, and the rest of the movies are reboots. Boring.

Sometimes I wonder if I would like it if I was American? If this is part of western culture, but I just don't 'get it' because I am from a different culture? I have tried watching a few, and reading some of the comics, but they do nothing for me. I just feel like an outsider, scratching my head in bewilderment.
