I think my faith for the majority of Utena fans died when, at a con, they showed the Utena movie and every immature moron who sat through it went "OMG, they were naked!!! and kissed! teehee, yuri!!!!" Luckily, there were others there who DID get more of it then just that.

I mean, if that was the ONLY part of the movie you paid attention to, and ignored the plot or even the beautiful music--please, get out of my fandom. And stop bringing the movie into the series. Movie is a RETELLING in an AU, not the same set up. -_-

I own all the Sailor dolls including the asteroids and the Sailor Stars and Endymion and Serenity and the Pegasus, original from Japan. I regret nothing. It's awesome.

If you like that dynamic, you might want to give the Mary Russell series by Laurie R King a try. She's a totally blatant Sue and the books aren't exactly literature. But they're vastly enjoyable and Holmes+female apprentice=total fangasm.

168. I can understand why people feel it's too different from the others: it was more of a sci-fi flick than a fantasy. Giving away too much takes away from the fun and mystery of it. I won't complain, though, it was still a decent movie.

168. I've watched the original movies. I love the original movies. And I hated this movie with a passion.

It was too over the top. And the characters were not themselves.

Have you seen Raiders? In that movie Indiana would have never survived a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge. This was a professor who routinely got his ass kicked by just about everyone.

He wasn't superman. He was Doctor Jones. (Which ticked me off that in the new movie no one called him, "Doctor Jones".)

In Raiders, Indie had to work hard to find the Ark. He had to travel all over, dig up clues, read through books, explore ruins. In the new film, Mutt pops up and says, you have to go South America. And by sheer luck Mutt's story happens to coincide with the Crystal skull.

Where's my brainy Indiana? The one I had a huge teacher crush on in Raiders? The one that made want to explore ruins?

Which leads us to the alien factor. The rest of the Indiana Jones movies had to deal with theology myths that go well with Jones' field of study. Not rather new and unfounded rumors spread by some people, usually non-academic people, who will tells you that Roswell actually happened and believe that the Nazca Lines were laid down for aliens! You can't study this. There are no Pre-Columbian myths that back this up. This pulp fiction nonsense.

The story of the Ark is in the Bible and we have two thousand years of myths for the Grail and even more for the Hindu gods. And there is art, songs, written tales, oral stories and artifacts dealing with these myths that are interwoven in human collective. Again, this is Jones' field of study.

Once more, aliens don't follow this pattern. That's why I think people had a hard time swallowing this. Funny thing is, if the crystal skull had actually belong to a Peruvian god, I don't think people would have been so upset because it would have followed the Indiana Jones movie pattern of the ancients interacting with gods. Not aliens. Gods.

I agree with all of this-- though truthfully the aliens didn't bother me so much as the fact that it was just a bad, bad, bad movie and the "villains" weren't scary or threatening at all. In fact at no point during this film did I ever feel like Indy or his friends were in real danger. It's not the suspension of disbelief I had trouble with, it's just... bad. A bad movie made by people who should know better.
