My first attempt at making a pie. Used frozen strawberries and defrosted them first. There was so much liquid it spilled over the pie tin and then over the tray I'd put underneath it. It was all over my oven.

I misread a teaspoon as a tablespoon. It was cayenne pepper. Very spicy chicken ensued.

I thought powdered sugar was flower once trying to make chicken and dumplings. In my defense Mom insisted on keeping everything in Tupperware at the time, and those labels were unreadable. Fortunately it wasn't really that much trouble to mix up a new batch of dough.

The number of times that I've squeezed lemons over something while forgetting that I had a cut is... non-trivial.

The first time I ever cooked something more complicated than mac and cheese from a box, I baked my grandmother's banana bread. It didn't rise.

I was so embarrassed, I didn't attempt to cook again for years.
