One of my favorite YouTubers is a vegan who rescues kittens. And guess what: she feeds them milk and meat because that's what cats actually NEED.

You can't be cruelty-free if you're feeding animals a diet that is inappropriate for them.

It's a real thing that they're seriously considering. Veterinarians are against it but Moby and the local vegans want to show the world that LA is "the most progressive place on earth". And they're happy to endanger thousands of dogs each year to do it.

I'm reminded of the comic strip Get Fuzzy, where Rob, who's a vegetarian, finds out that his mom is keeping her cat on a vegan diet and gets the cat a 400$ gift card to a local BBQ joint. He has his ethics and facts in the right place, and is concerned about animal cruelty with both meat farms and domestic pets.

It's amazing how pretty much everyone in this thread is talking out their ass. I know vegan dogs and they were way healthier after the switch. Fewer allergies, cleaner coat and breath, more energy, fewer sick days. People bitch about feeding dogs a vegan diet, but don't say a word about the fucking by-product ridden garbage full of euthanized pets, roadkills, and slaughterhouse leftovers that those shelters are feeding dogs now. Most companions animals die from cancers, usually of the liver, caused by this shitty ass diet, but no, it's vegans who are the problem. You people honestly don't know shit, and your kneejerk reaction to something you haven't even studied for a second is pathetic.

Psst, you're full of shit. Talk to a biologist or a veterinarian or pretty much anyone who actually knows something about animals. Vegans aren't a problem. People like you who think forcing non-vegan animals to be vegan is somehow better for them based on "this one vegan dog I know" are absolutely a problem.

The average cheap kibble does contain a lot of nasty shit, although euthanized pets are technically no longer legal (I knew a guy who used to work in a rendering plant, and he said it was less common but still happened) additions to pet food. But that’s like saying that the biggest problem with the average US diet is the meat, and not the fast food, the processed garbage, and the fact that most people just plain don’t eat their fruit and veggies. Even the meat is usually crap.

If dogs and cats were fed good quality food (which for cats is like 60% organ meat and another 35% muscle and fat, I forget the exact percentages) they’d have way fewer health problems. I was relieved the day I found a high-quality kibble (still only 40% protein) my cat would eat, she would only eat cheap shit that was heavy on the corn when I got her at the shelter. She still won’t eat canned food or raw or cooked meat, which sucks for her health.

So I could maybe buy that a super well monitored, supplemented out the wazoo vegan dog would do better than one fed some of the worst kibble brands, but they’re mostly corn and chicken shit, so no wonder. Dogs still do way better with mostly meat and maybe some cooked veggies and fruit if they like it.

I used to be a vet's assistant and everything pro vegan dog anon said is bullshit except the business about Old Roy. Never give your dog that stuff, it's terrible for them (ironically enough, one of the reasons for this is it doesn't have enough meat in it!)
