What YA do you like?

As an adult, I really liked The Hunger Games.

Growing up I liked The Ugly series, The Giver series, the Percy Jackson series, and the Shadow Children series.

That we got into as adults, you mean?

Definitely The Hunger Games. Harry Potter, although I read it as a teen -
but I've re-read it as an adult and feel it still holds up. (Although as I said in a comment, I will contend that as far as action/sci fi/fantasy novel goes for, it's definitely one of the less edgy ones. But I prefer character development over edginess anyway, so it works for me, although I've written fics that are a little bit edgier.)

Honestly, I still enjoy an awful lot of YA. I've recently fallen in love with Nicola Yoon's books and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Animorphs

I really like all kinds of YA fic - The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Eragon series, Demonata series (which I need to finish), Gone (ditto). (I'll take more recs for similar series, lol.)

Lately though, I've been really into YA LGBT books. It's interesting to see not only see other people going through their sexuality as awkward, unsure teens, it's also interesting to see characters of other sexualities go through it. Plus, I'm so over het love triangles, lol.

As an adult: I quite like the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children series, although I haven't gotten around to reading the third book.

Aside from Harry Potter, that's pretty much it for YA I've consumed in my adulthood.

Ohh! Evidently McGuire's Wayward Children is classed YA. Beneath the Sugar Sky was just published.

Dealing With Dragons and its sequels were always my fave

I really like Celia Rees' books. They're mostly historical fiction. Same with Lindsay Barraclough's Long Lankin books, which I believe were originally intended as straight-up horror, but were re-marketed as YA because of the child and teenage protagonists.

Must be harmless, so no "gay as an insult" allowed. Bonus points for your reasons being petty or nonsensical.

"Reblog this!" Because it is always following some sob story or horrible injustice and followed by a comment about how you are a horrible person if you don't reblog some shitty Tumblr post.

I hate "pup". As in, calling dogs/puppies "pups". Especially adult dogs. "Pupper" as a cutesy dog slang also grates on my ears. No real reason on "pup", it just sounds old-fashioned and stupid. "Dog" is already only one syllable, stick with that.

Alternatively, I think "kit" sounds adorable, but it's not in common use for kittens. Maybe it's because "pup" sounds like "poop".

U for you, because I'm old fashioned and used to the snooty side of the internet, where I probably used "U" and almost got kicked off of a forum for it.

It's like, I get it, the internet's no longer just for nerds who are nitpicky about spelling. But there's still a mean part of me that can't help but think, "is it really that hard to type three damn letters?"

(Yes, I realize for some people, it is.)
