Realizing you have feelings for someone else when you're in a relationship...

Me=in a serious relationship with SO that I felt like I'd probably marry eventually

So my coworker and I have known each other for years working at the same company, but in totally different departments and rarely saw each other. Several months ago they got a promotion and started working in my department, now we work closely together almost every day, and I've been slowly developing feelings. They out of the blue decided to tell me they had feelings for me, and now I'm not sure what the hell to do.

Cheating is not an option, neither of us are that kind of person. Part of me wants to suggest us both leaving our partners and starting a relationship, but I don't feel like that's right when there are kids involved. I also don't feel like I can just pretend my feelings don't exist (and pretend I don't know that they feel the same way) and continue to work side by side almost daily. I've thought about quitting my job and hoping that eventually the feelings would go away when I didn't have to see them all the time, but I feel like my SO might be suspicious of that because I worked so hard to get where I am and the nature of the field I'm in makes it difficult to find another similar job.

I know no one can just tell me what to do, but has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? I just feel completely lost here. :(
