It's interesting how our perceptions of characters change depending on our age. I recall that when my mother read 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time', she was a lot more sympathetic to the main character than I was when I read it. I was fourteen and, like the main character (who is 15), I'm autistic - and I thought he was an unbearable dipshit, so consumed with his conviction that he was the smartest person on the planet that he forgot to actually use his brain for anything. I recall being particularly enraged by the scene where he jumps down onto train tracks to rescue his pet mouse, and is angry at the people who pull him back onto the platform for touching him!

I agree that she has a limited range, but I dont think it was really a problem in TFA or TLJ. It's a limited range but it's also pretty much exactly the range you need for the kind of adventure space opera pulp Star Wars mostly is. TROS is just not using her well because, uh, it's bad.

I don't watch Simpsons, but I have caught a few episodes over the years. Some of them actually included these characters (if I'm remembering correctly) and I definitely shipped them. So you're not alone.
