I'm watching the SNL at home show from last night, and it's...actually not that different from regular SNL. Did anyone else watch it?

A BNF in one of my fandoms liked something I posted about the show on social media and I'm weirdly proud of it, as dumb as that sounds.

People in another of my fandoms are discussing who's top/bottom in the juggernaut ship (which I ship, too), which I'm strangely bothered by and I'm not sure why...maybe because that's just such a...idk, stereotypical? and almost old-fashioned concept to me.

I haven't started it yet, but I just downloaded the first season of Symphogear, because something dumb and flashy about idols using music to power magical armor to do battle while yelling about emotions seems really on the ticket right now. XD

I’m rereading the Shopaholic books. They’re super fun! I just pretend that the two books that took place in Hollywood never happened because those were awful.

I watched Geostorm (2017) last night and it was a genuinely charming and uplifting B-movie with likeable characters.

Not a rec, but I watched The Expanse and realized something

I've not been in the mood for anything recently. After a long (for me) break from shows, brought on by lack of interest in anything, I watched the first season of The Expanse, and while I like the overall plot, I can't get into the characters. I won't watch the second season, or start any other shows soon. I realized that I'm done with anything shiny and American. You know, shows where everyone is just a bit too good looking and a bit too cool, and every challenge can be overcome by the hero being a rogue badass who don't follow no rules.

I am going to see how many books on politics and ethics I can read in two years so I can maybe run for state legislature. Apparently 40+ seats in my state are won by default because no one runs.

I'm currently reading Out There: An Anthology of Scottish LGBT Writing edited by Zoe Strachan, which has been pretty good so far, and Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell - which feels like its going to be a pseudo Supernatural fanfic story the same way that Carry On was a pseudo Harry Potter fanfic (not that I'm complaining, I've been wanting to read it for a while now anyways).

I've been watching The Magicians for a while now, and I kind of hate the way the narrative is structured.

It feels almost like a video game or something (says the girl who hasn't played video games since the oughts). The characters have a goal and in order to accomplish their goal they are told they have to perform a difficult task. They stumbled chaotically towards completing the task. They succeed or fail at completing the task, but ultimately whether they succeed or fail, the goalposts get moved and they can't manage to achieve their goal. Instead, they end up with a new task, which they again stumble chaotically towards completing. And it just goes on and on like that, ad nauseam. It's incredibly linear. There's a hurdle, they attempt to jump the hurdle, their attempt to jump the hurdle introduces a new hurdle, they attempt to jump the hurdle, their attempt to jump the hurdle introduces a new hurdle, and so on, and so on, forever.

There's hardly any plot build, because the stakes are constantly both too high and too irrelevant at the same time. Every time they have a new hurdle, it's always "We absolutely need to succeed here or it's all over," and then every time, regardless of whether they succeed or fail, they just end up with another hurdle to tackle.

And then, when the show finally does resolve any of it's major, ongoing catastrophes, it always feels underwhelming and almost by chance. The characters just stumble chaotically into a half-assed resolution.

Not every element I'm talking about is inherently bad. Some of it could be done well, IMO. But the way The Magicians does it just feels like incredibly weak plotting to me.

I want to start a rewatch, I found the harddrive with some of my old favorites and some other things I haven't rewatched in a while. But I can't make up my mind. These are the ones I'm deciding between:

Babylon 5
Buffy
Body of Proof
Legend of the Seeker
Supernatural (seasons 1-5)

Which should I watch first?

Just got Netflix finally so I could watch Kingdom, anything else I should watch as well? Already added The Rain to my listed as well. Mostly interested in horror, sci-fi, monsters, dystopian etc.

Please help! There's so much stuff it's like overload lol.

I don't know whether to break up with my girlfriend or not.

I got with her after my divorce from my cheating ex husband. I had a break down, and eventually had to send my 11 year old daughter away so I could go to a psych ward. When I started dating, I tried dating women and met my current girlfriend (I'm a woman).

I eventually got better mentally and want to get my daughter back. I've been with my girlfriend for two years now. We moved in together and are planning on one day getting married. I've started having my daughter stay with us more and my girlfriend is acting resentful. She doesn't like kids, doesn't want any, and doesn't want my daughter to live with us full time.

Is that it? Is that the end of the road for us?

I'm sorry, I have no one to turn to.

Kind of a strange rec request

Does anyone know of any stories (doesn’t have to be fic) that could be described as “jealousy with a happy ending”? As in, Character A wishes they were as good as Character B in some way, and then either they become just as good or it turns out they were all along and just had to unlock their potential somehow?

(It doesn’t have to actually be good. I’m betting if anything like that is out there, it’s mostly Mary Sue shit, and by god I’ll take it all.)

I like generally sweet mixed drinks (especially with rum or tequila or vodka), ciders (only had apple and pear, but others would probably be good too), Bailey's, spiced rum, other kinds of rum, sweet wines, Dos Eques beer (only kind I've had and liked), and slivovitza (not remotely sweet, but you can pretty much get drunk of a single sip, it is a Eastern European thing)

In case COVID-19 kicks my ass. It is depressing as fuck. My two blood relative uncles have no kids. I have no spouse or kids or anything, my one friend is already in line to inherit two houses from her mom and uncles... I think I will put my aunt first because her nephews are still kids and selling my house could send them to college or whatever.

Sigh. This sucks.

Feels like growing pains (ish?

In the last hour or so, I've started to have aching in my legs that feels a bit like the growing pains I used to get as a kid. I didn't do any special workout today that might have caused muscle fatigue. It is down my whole leg, but is especially bad in my hips. I do potentially have arthritis in my left hip, but the pain is equal both sides and doesn't feel like that. So I have no idea what is going on. Anyone else ever had anything like this?
