My work reopened and 2/3 of the former staff were let go, including yours truly. I will be alright myself but I know others won't. :( I'm sad because I liked my job and will miss the people I worked with, some of whom I'll probably never see again. :( This wasn't much of a vent, was it, lol.

So sorry, nonny. That sucks. Being unemployed sucks. And losing friends sucks. I really hope you can find another job soon and that you are able to stay in contact with some of those people at least.

My dad managed to push his newish PC off his desk and now it won't turn on (the space around the power supply is pretty dented so that's probably why, though who knows what else is broken). I do feel bad for him but at the same time... he was doing an online whiskey tasting via webcam and wasn't anywhere near sober anymore and he has been drinking quite a bit lately so this is actually one of the more harmless things that could have happened. But it's not like he'll learn anything from this.
Also, I'm annoyed because I just spent the last week fixing my own PC and now I'll have to continue with his and I hate doing this.

I feel completely alone and isolated by the current manifestation of leftism. And I get angry when I realize that I'm not alone, but people are just as scared as I am of the raging mob for us to find each other and be alone together and have a voice together. It hurts so bad. I have no one to safely share my thoughts with, especially in fandom. No one.

A bit annoyed at my dad. We're working on cleaning out the garage. I'm the one standing and lifting and moving things due to my mom's health and my dad's back. So it got to be obvious that the heat was getting to me. My mom and I are working hard, working through boxes and totes fairly quickly. We want to be out of the heat. Meanwhile, my dad is working through one box of papers, reading each one and taking a meandering trip down nostalgia lane.

Argh. Taking a 15 minute aircon/drink break and then going back out. Hopefully we can convince dad to move faster this time.

The migraine I have and the fact that we have all the garage doors open so the sun is blaring in and making my headache worse is not helping my mood.

I hate the trend I've seen in lots of online spaces lately that holds that anyone under 26 is an ikkle baby child who should not be held accountable for anything they do and should absolutely never *shocked gasp* DATE! Today I saw someone refer to a 20-year-old as a 'late teen', while saying that a 27-year-old dating a 20-year-old was 'questionable' because of the 'power imbalance'. Like jesus fucking christ, get a grip.

My mom is driving me nuts. Every time we talk she basically spends the entire conversation complaining about her life, and then she has to go and I never get a chance to vent because I don't want to interrupt. The times I do, she ends up yelling at me that she can't do anything about it, and like...I'm not asking her to, I just want her to listen. That's what I do when she's venting and I don't get mad because I can't do anything about it. I know I can't do anything about it. The world sucks right now and that's just the way it is.

And she complains about my dad driving her nuts, and I'm like "well, then divorce him" and then she's like "noooo, he's wonderful, why would you say that?!" He IS a good guy and I know she wouldn't divorce him, it just gets annoying to listen to her complain. And then she complains that I'm "lucky" because I don't have a husband and like...I don't have a husband because I don't want one. She could not have one if she wanted to, but then when I suggest that she acts like I'm the bad guy for daring to suggest she leave my dad, and well...that's the only way she could not have a husband.

I don't know, I love my mom, and overall I like talking to her/spending time with her (when I was able to) but she does NOT handle stress well at all, and considering current events are pretty much the most stressful thing a lot of people have ever had to deal with, it's just not fun interacting with her at the moment.

Tired of these young 18-20-year-olds acting like the ONLY action right now is revolution, as if we haven't had mass protests this size before. News flash: the protests are similar to the Civil Rights movement around MLK. We didn't do a revolution then. Voting is still fucking important.

I've realized I'm pretty clueless when it comes to certain types of fandoms. I'm watching a bunch of twitch streams and I have no clue what some of them are talking about. I kinda wish I could participate in someway, but at the same time I realize it doesn't matter in the long run. I should probably just go back to enjoying the usual games I am familiar with or doing solo activities. Luckily some of my gamer friends are getting involved in other stuff, so I'm looking forward to that once things settle down. But I can't help but feel really dumb when I don't understand the culture or vernacular of another fandom. Plus it's kinda fun to learn about something new.

Based on a secret from yesterday, plotlines where a main character is tormented in some way by a villain (either a villain of the week or a recurring villain or a main villain) and then fights back and wins. Even when that storyline involves rape or attempted rape of a female character.

I like bodice-ripper style non-con - the whole 'I don't want it but I secretly do' thing that only works in fiction. Unfortunately, if it trips over some invisible line in my head between 'non-con' and 'rape', I stop enjoying it :/

Time travel and fix-it fics that change lots of things that happened in canon.

AUs where the characters have completely different jobs even when their jobs are the interesting thing in canon.

Whump and hurt/comfort fics that have strong characters just having a bad day.

Ridiculous backstory AUs. Make me believe a character is a child of the Addams family or a reformed criminal mastermind or circus runaway or a mermaid who can change forms.

Strong, somewhat comedic characters getting hardcore whumped, especially comedic villains. The characters I'm interested in tend to be the ones doing the comforting rather than the ones getting whumped, or in there case of villains, they're the whumpers rather than the whumpees.

There's something about seeing a strong, comedic character in a whumpy situation that is really shocking and alien, and I like the idea of other characters trying to reconcile the idea of this super strong, confident, energetic character being completely broken and humiliated.

Even better if the whumpee just has never had to deal with trauma before, and doesn't understand what their brain is doing. Maybe they even try to keep up their old persona, but it doesn't seem quite right. There's more to it, but I barely understand it myself. I can only say that I don't see much of it.
