Wow so much bitterness so close to the holidays!

110 - I miss the days when only GOOD fic has banners. It used to be, an author would write a story, and someone would love it so much they'd make a banner, and then you knew it was worth checking out. Now, you see a banner - especially a terrible one made by the author of the story - mostly when a fic is BAD!

Every now and again you do still see the wonderful pairing of kickass banners and kickass fics. Almost always the banners in this case are made by fans, like in your example. I kinda want a banner for some of my fics, but there's that whole stigma then-- if *I* make it, does that automatically mean I'm pretentious and the fic is actually bad, because it doesn't deserve a banner? Or maybe it's just that it's a trend that kinda died out in my fandoms?

OK, so beyond the horribly sexist generalisation that women = romance all the time...

If the shippers weren't in fandom, there wouldn't be more action. There'd just be less romance. You'd have no more to read.

People should not have to write more than 'who's buttfucking who' if they don't want to. If what interests you deviates from the norm, well yes, it can suck for you, but that doesn't mean people should forgo THEIR entertainment so you can be a speshul snowflake.

Also who beats who up is generally just as shallow as who's sexxoring who. I fail to see why it's more valid. I find both awesome fun, myself, though.

Generally, someone who has come to the conclusion that they're gay is much less likely to suddenly discover that they're actually straight or bi than someone who, like the rest of society, has presumed they're straight is likely to discover they're gay or bi. Not that it doesn't happen, but because of the way straight is the "assumed" sexuality and anyone gay usually goes through a process of realization to get there, it's less likely.

I mean, come on, I think fans have an entitlement complex too, but I don't see how that's related to the desire to gay things up.

173. uh, actually, YES, it is much more likely and realistic for someone "straight" to discover they are gay/bisexual than for someone gay to suddenly go "oh! nevermind, I'm straight!" People are raised to assume they and everyone else are heterosexual unless they discover otherwise, not the other way around. Generally, if you know you are gay, you know it because it's been a subject of much thought. While it could be possible someone straight has done the same, generally it is not the same situation. There is more leeway to work with assumed-straight characters for that reason.

174. CRY MOAR. One, there are plenty of action/adventure fan stories with romance absent or on the backburner -- and it's women writing most of those too. Secondly, just because you don't like romance doesn't mean it's worse than everything and "ruins" fandom. And thirdly? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? There have always been discussions on romance/shipping in fandoms, and back when I joined fandom about nine or so year ago I was in shounen fandoms. Kirk/Spock shipping goes back to the 60s/70s. The "good old days" you're bashing women for "ruining" don't even exist.

(Interesting it's only "buttfucking" that ruins it for you -- I guess het and lesbian romances are totally okay.)
