107. This sounds like a horrible Code Geass AU.

114. WATCH DIEBUSTER! Well, first watch Gunbuster, THEN WATCH DIEBUSTER! It's worth it, really!

119. So agreed <3

145. Everything is an excuse for bishounen or lolis. Everything.

[identity profile] filthe.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)

174.Oh my god,I actually remember those days.

[identity profile] sailor-escapism.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
When, exactly?
There were never many fighting fanfics.

OT, but I just had to say this: I love your character over at the capslock dressing room. <3

Two of my favorite characters right there. Well, Lucas was amazing but I'm biased because I completely adore Michael Weston. Thirteen though...not only favorite House character but she inspires a lot of fic outta me, so she's amazing for that.

Also, Olivia is just so fantastic.

153

I've replayed it and amuse myself fitting 'shit' in instead of 'pictures'. Lame, KH 2, lame.

146. There are things I like and don't about all of them, but bashing always seemed to be a dick measuring contest and since most of us in TW fen don't have them, it never turns out well. You don't like Gwen or Ianto? Fucking shut up about it and write things that show us how great the others are on their own.

155. Part of me hopes that now this community and that other one is in place, people will stop whinging about Jack/Ianto fen oppressing everyone else. If 3 of every 4 (substitute real %, just a guess) TW online fen are Jack/Ianto fans, should they purposefully curtail their participation beyond their proportion just to make others more comfy? Cry moar, bbs.

(to be fair, I got rid of T_W comm also because Janto fan or not, too much badfic with icons of babies or bad manips)

163. LOL!

(Anonymous) 2008-12-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You are the best anon ever. Word to everything.

The people who bitch about Ianto and Jack/Ianto are almost always just as annoying as the rabid "OMFG IANTO AND JACK SHOULD GET MARRIED AND HAV LOTS OF ASSBABIES LOL". You're so right that people need to just shut up and write fics.

125. Same. Not to mention Radiohead.

126. Hi, are you me?

133. I don't know, OP. I just don't know.

174. I wish fandom argued over who could beat who too, but I mean... did it ever? I'm late to fandom so I honestly don't know - but people have told me that women essentially created fandom, and male fans never really did much in the way of fanworks (except argue with each other on forums).

174. Oh, yeah, I'm 31. When I was a kid and all things fandom would pop up, the conversations were always who would win in a fight; Picard or Kirk? Now it's like, who would fuck whom first, Picard or Kirk?

And I would say it was men who really started fandoms as we see them today. Especially sci-fi and anime fandoms. When I was a kid, girls did not watch sci-fi or fantasy unless it was things like The Disney, Dark Crystal or Labyrinth. But fandoms like anime, which at that time was either fighting anime or mecha like Voltron or Akira, Batman, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek were practically a man only field.

Now it's fine for women to like sci-fi and anime.

Oh you poor fool, why did you go and combine the search queries? Men have to divide and conquer. Just imagine if you had split up action and adventure, you could have gotten:

2,400,000 (fanfiction adventure) + 1,940,000 (fanfiction action) = 4,340,000

Ding ding ding, you can now feel superior to those pesky wimminz.

125. YES. YES YES YES YES YES. I completely and utterly agree with you. I dislike it when people admire things like that mentioned in Twilight just because IT WAS IN THE BOOK/MOVIE/WHATEVER AND EDWARD LIKES IT !!11OMG, not because it's a good piece in itself...that didn't come out the way I wanted it to.

153. I'm so glad somebody else thought the same way.

[identity profile] van.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
174. If you actually search for "Fanfiction romance" and "fanfiction action adventure" with proper quote tags, the results are much different. (Worse, really, but still. Your example is utterly retarded.)

[identity profile] with-luck.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I always wonder about things like that too. It almost drives me crazy when I can't enter houses or explore blocked hallways/paths.

111. Really now? I was in an RP where both the Phoenix and Edgeworth cared very much for the plots they were in, and they did a damn good job of it as well as having a romantic relationship between them.

127. AGREED.

137. W-wait. Seriously? I've never tried to get into Final Fantasy fandoms, but that kinda makes me sad.

148. I can see it. I mean, that whole "Would you kindly..." thing would make for some interesting fic.

148

[identity profile] relmneiko.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 05:31 am (UTC)(link)

The funny thing is, when I got into fanfic? It was back in the days of Sailormoon Fandom.

Anyone remember "A Sailor Moon Romance" Fanfic archive? (ASMR)?

Well, most of the authors there were male and the fics were almost all badly-written lesbian (and the rare straight) romance fanfics.

So... those days before women ruined fandom by bringing romance into it?

Yeah I'm not sure that happened the way you, uh, seem to think it did.
azurite: (sailormoon - usagi sweater)

Re: 174

[personal profile] azurite 2008-12-15 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
...What ASMR were YOU on (and when)? I knew a huge majority of the writers from there, and the huge majority of them were women. And the huger majority wrote Usagi x Mamoru (of the fics that were romance; a huge chunk of them were NOT AT ALL, or NOT THE FOCUS, and they were excellent either way), though I do remember seeing a decent amount of Rei x Ami, the occasional Ami x Makoto, and a few Minako x whomever (sometimes even Artemis).

I can count the number of male authors I know from ASMR's heyday on one hand.

174. Actually, you have a point, though not every female enjoys fanfics like that, including me. I know that there are way too many NC-17 porn fics when there should be more action fic and/or gen fic.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-15 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Why should there be more action/gen fic than porn if fans of the former aren't actively making efforts to increase the amount of same? This makes it sound like fandom has a responsibility to provide for everyone's particular interests, when in fact, fandom owes you jack. Fans can contribute whatever they like, and if more people like porn, more of it will be available.

160. Nerds are, if anything, even worse with the cliques and even more passive-aggressive than non-nerds.

171. I think CLAMP's pretty much out of ideas at this point. All they can think of to do is endlessly recycle and reference their earlier work.

171

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Clamp always has been referencing and crossovering their other work as far as back Clamp Campus Detectives. Tsubasa is just like CCD, just years and many series later.

Plus, it's not CLAMP's fault Sunrise wanted those designs either.

Re: 171

I obviously should have worded this differently. The Athrun and Kira one was there to show the Sunrise copypasta (independent of CLAMP).

[identity profile] xenutia1.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I really want to try fic that pairs up characters (not necessarily ship-wise, just for a story/work/whatever) that don't usually get to interact. Just because I've always like doing that with fandoms! It's fun and shiny and new. I don't know how many I'll manage, but I just got one posted that featured Gwen and Tosh all on their own on an assignment, so maybe if I keep up the good work . . .

Decaf sounds like a great place (and I have it on Watch, lol).

167. Eh, I can understand the annoyance, but it's a touchy subject with a lot of people. No matter how much you defend it, there are plenty who will think those who enjoy rape, incest, and the like are sick. No point in arguing about it, but that's me.

I'm getting a bit of 'I'm a special and hardcore girl, look at me!' vibe from the third paragraph, though. You're really not that unique among women.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-16 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
167. I think it's perfectly okay for someone to find it sick but I think it's not okay to go around saying someone wants to be raped because they enjoy rape fantasy or calling the police on someone who enjoys guro because rl clearly equals fantasy.

For the second part, fair enough, I'm just pissy from certain people rocking up to my LJ going on about me being a misogynistic, male chauvinist pig and going to hell for this and saying so and so will turn me off this shit forever.
Because clearly some girl crying and being beaten and raped is really going to horrify the person who wrote a girl explicitly being tortured, raped and killed and the body being used for someone's sexual gratification with considerable thought into the realism of reactions and thoughts.
