Klink was a Nazi by political expediency - he was a non-party German soldier prior to the rise of the Third Reich. Pretty much anyone that wanted to keep their career had to join the Nazi party. (Sort of like being a Republican in 2004.) Also, you might be amused to know that the man who played Klink was a Jew, and only agreed to do the show if he could portray Nazi's as bungling idiots.

Feel better?

170. Michael Aday is so fucking hot - it should be illegal. A man should NOT be that sexy at 61. (I'm 44.) He just got better as he got older.

140. That's so cute that you think this is secret-worthy. :D

158. Maybe. But I'm now convinced he's a douchebag. Such a shame this picture had to show up the day after the puppy photos. I was really riding a high on how awesome he was there for about twelve hours. Then it all crashed and burned.

Re: 140, 158

[identity profile] elmathelas.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Is it just that he looks douchey, or is there a douchebaggy story to go with this picture?

121. OOOOOMG CHIPPETTES OMG *flails in a circular motion* I never understood if they were chipmunks or actual girls, or some awful chipmunk/human hybrid because they didn't look as chipmunk-y as the boys but they certainly didn't look human. I didn't see the first movie but if they're in the sequel holy God I just might.

139. Because our society has this innate need to be "either/or," love of labels and "knowing" one's identity (I put that in quotations because who can really say exactly who they are using a word created by someone else?), etc. It's really not about gay/straight/bi/dendrophilia, it's about who you love that matters.

140. How is this a secret? Doesn't everyone do this? ;-) The most fun is making up a neighborhood full of real actors/people and fictional characters. Extra points if an actor starts a sexual relationship with one of their own characters. XD

174. I love the OT3ness of that movie, but every time I watch it I have such an issue with Ferris and righteousness that I conclude that he's not good enough for either of them.

172

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the exact same way. I'm fine with RL me being alone, but I feel bad that my character has no one. :/

132. I wouldn't say unsuccessful. I love Brand New! I still think they will really make it big someday. And failure isn't measured by how popular something is, it's decided by if you never do anything to make yourself happy. If it makes you happy so what if other people don't like it or don't care? You're the one that matters.

139. I hear you. Just try to be true to yourself people. It's not wrong and it's nothing to be ashamed of. Also- FUCK OFF HATERS! YOU CAN'T TELL ME THAT WHO I AM IS WRONG OR SINFUL!

160. THIS! I know exactly what you mean. He has so much integrity and he speaks his mind so clearly! Such an admirable man, with so many talents. Jon Stewart is my hero and no one will ever convince me that he's not worthy of that.

141. Amon Goeth was a vicious psychopath. That scene is disturbing.

161. Klink was not a real person (see [livejournal.com profile] adaveen above); he was a joke.

118. That's horrible and awesome at the same time. Horrible because I happen to adore Max, awesome because it made me laugh out loud.

139. I completely accept bisexuality. But...I'm not bi. I'm a lesbian. I'd still "go straight" for the guy in my icon. And my straight girl friends would do Keira Knightley. It's not all about sexual attraction.

101: Yeah, I never got into that fandom because I dislike the Seishirou/Subaru pairing so much. Or, well, more specifically, the way they're viewed by most of the fandom.

130: Why not just stay in the 8059 parts of fandom? From what I've seen, they're a pretty large part. There are other ways to interpret Gokudera's feelings for Tsuna, you know.

139: I always wonder about this. Isn't the definition of being bisexual simply that you're able to feel attraction to both sexes?

143: I always thought they'd be a great match; sadly there were never much fic.

161: It's complicated, no question about it. But the Nazis weren't monsters, most of them, just regular people (and I find this the most chilling part, actually; it shows what regular people can do if they allow themselves to be governed by fear and hatred).

167: If you look anywhere but the online part of fandom, I think you'll find your approach much more common. In fact, most people watching your shows will probably never even have had a thought of considering differently than what the canon most evidently provides.

175. Of course I never watch the U.S. dub, which I see that you meant; I'm Swedish. We don't dub (except for the kiddies, and then we do an awful, awful job of it). Why should I watch yours?

175

[identity profile] nighteevee.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
As a Norwegian (and as such brought up with an excellent dubbing industry even though we only dub for the "kiddies", too), I own more anime in English than I really should for the simple reason that a good dub gives me much more than a sub ever could.

133. Well, considering HOW many people think that about the people they're based on.....

139. Hell, I STILL doubt anyone's 100% gay or straight.

140. Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people who've ever played have done that. Hell, I remember at my friend's house using the Sims to "ship" my friend's brother with a celebrity he made fun of me for liking....and I think he found it more hilarious than I did. Too bad that game got erased.

iTunes. It's around $2 per episodes, but it's worth it. Or you could just watch Nature on adultswim.com right now and see if you like it and then torrent stuff, because I know there are some around. 174.
A) HOT PANTS AND PIE, I thought I was the only one who shipped them! That's my favourite part of the movie, really, and every time I watch it, I become more and more convinced that Cameron's the freaking protagonist of that movie.
B) It was confirmed as canon? For realsies? It just seemed so obvious that Ferris would go off to college, leaving the two of them behind and come and go like a whirlwind, and they would, well... but I thought I was just being cracky.

174 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-12-19 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hughes confirmed that Cameron being in love with Sloane was canon. Which had BETTER mean that they got together after the fact. Ferris seems more like... a characterized ideal of teenage rebellion than a real person, as opposed to the others, anyway.

I didn't want to be mortal

Can you explain this a little bit further, OP? I don't quite understand what you mean. As in afraid of life after death or reincarnation..? just curious.

OP

(Anonymous) 2008-12-19 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty simple. I wanted to be spiritual because I didn't want to die. Most religions say that death isn't really death, it's just "passing on" to something new, like Heaven, or another body. Also, someone I loved very much had died horribly, and the only thing that made it any better was not having to face the fact that I would never see them again, because I could imagine that we would meet in another life. Losing my spirituality meant losing that security.

That scene with Utena lying in the coffin beside her parents and pleading to be shown "something eternal" was... Well, it really struck a chord with me. And then when I saw what that "something eternal" actually was, it was so horrible, and so completely unexpected, it... changed me. Just a little, tiny bit, so little I didn't really notice it at first. But it's a change that's grown with time and reflection and other stories.

Damn, this secret fails.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
101) Yeah, I did that, too, when I switched from FMA to Dr. Who. It's horribly disappointing, and a bit surprising considering the freaking set up. In fact, I couldn't sustain my interest in the fandom part of this fandom for very long. Still love the franchise to death, but honestly, as far as fandom goes they just seem so narrow and repetitive compared to what I was used to.

139) Yeah, sexuality isn't an on-off switch. More like a dimmer. Though to be honest, I think these guys are saying they'd only make an exception for one person. I tend to lump those guys with Het/Gay. I'd like people to be at least 25/75 before they don the "I'm bisexual" badge. The "does this one exception make me gay?" people really make me roll my eyes.

140) Hey, don't be putting down crappy self-insert fic. Write enough of that shit and you can learn how to write truly awesome self-insert fic, or perhaps crappy self-insert fic that millions of people will shell out 10 bucks a pop for (yeah, I'm looking at you S. Meyers.)

143) Wow, your friend is awfully entitled here. I hope you get up the guts to tell her that she's being annoying before you come to hate her guts.

149) Vampires are the most thinly veiled metaphor for sex ever.

157) I can see a movie convincing someone that they are bisexual, but not how one can convince them they aren't. Bisexual =/= asexual.

163) Ya know, blaming the server may be easier, but that doesn't excuse the fact that your friend dumped you in a rather assholish way. Good luck with finding someone to play with who is less of a prick.

167) You are kidding! Most fandoms are dominated by canon shippers. You want to feel lonely and weird, try being a rare pair shipper.

157

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's a, "If I'd go gay/straight for anyone in the world, it would probably be this character... and yet, I'm still not really feeling it" sort of thing? That's what I got out of it.

116. As much as that would tickle me if it were indeed true, one glaring fact makes me think otherwise. Leto has said in several interviews that if he were attracted to a guy he would go for it. The only reason he would be secretive about such a thing would be that he's secretive about his personal life in general. It's subject interviewers aren't even allowed to ask him about. And anyone who understands the man in the slightest would know that if he were gay he wouldn't hide it for fear of public reactions; he wouldn't give a shit. But I will whole-heartedly agree that 30stm fans that aren't slashers would go ape-shit. How they can deny the boy's openly bi is beyond me.

146. You are not alone, anon. Mmmm.
