EPIC FAIL

For the first screencap, I would have subbed it as "you little bastard!", and for the second one, "Why, you...!"

It just reeks of the subber knowing just enough Japanese to translate it and to rub their knowledge in other's faces.

Aww! I have a special place in my heart for Stein for... Some ungodly reason... But I really really like Spirit, too. I think it's actually kind of hard to find a person who loves one and not the other.

Actually, I like all the Shibusen graduates. And I'm really curious about what they all got up to together as young'uns. And the current students are great, too! I think I just like pretty much everyone.

161. Well, do they know that they exist? It could be that's why they don't do it, and that they've never really thought of tracking down any other music he's done. If the options are presented to them and they just turn up their noses at it, then yeah, that's a little silly, but I don't think you should get so angry at them if they're simply unaware. In fact, you should be introducing them to the music instead of complaining.

122. To be fair, I think you can get more of someone’s personality out of their fandoms and ships than out of anything else.
131. ME TOO
141. It’s not the squeeing or the fangirling that are bad in and of themselves. It’s the character/ship-bashing, hatred of females, and complete illogic that goes along with some of the more rabid examples thereof.

113. It doesn't matter how good the story is if he ripped off other peoples' stories. And honestly, I find it pretty terrible. It had a few good parts, like the stuff with Eragorn's brother was pretty interesting. But... I was reading the books because I was bored during my brother's karate practice and my only other option was staring at the wall. Halfway through Eldest, I had to force myself to read the book instead of staring at the wall... It was that boring. I also hated how Paolini used the elves to push his beliefs on the reader.

120. There are shippers in the HL2 fandom?! Apparently I have been looking in the wrong places.

113.

[identity profile] ivymutant.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
113. I've never read LotR, and I still know Eragon et al are badly written, and poor excuses for fantasy novels. And we're bitter they are bitter novels? Typos, lulz.

101. You have a good point, and I appreciate that kind of meticulousness. However, I'd just like to muse that in all these years I've never found a translation of itadakimasu that quite does the job. What would be a good example?

143. Yes, yes, it is simply mind-blowing that people prefer a visual medium to be visually appealing to them. How dare they.

153. I like Deathscythe more than Stein myself.

162. The Berlin Wall? What fandom is this?

101 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on the characters. With grabby little kids, I've used 'Grace!' (I can't have been the only one who 'said grace' like that). 'Bottoms up' for less-dignified sorts, etc.

Sadly, 'Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yay God' would go by too fast.

110. Now that was a kiss! Especially as the last episode was really quite bleak and I was pretty sure they weren't going to get together. Then they did and it was so *guh* and Richard Armitage pulled all those happy faces.... LOVE!!!

129. Don't know which fandom this is but YES. I hate it when people get so possesive and pissy about the things they post online. It's so damn attention seeking and if they didn't want people to use or see them then they shouldn't post them just for the drama and adoration or whatever.

104. That entire fic is amazing. It is quite possibly one of the most enjoyable fics that i read in the entirety of 2008

#113: Uh, I think you have a typo there.

I don't think the Eragon series is as crap as some people say (that said, CPaolini needs a better editor, stat.) But good luck comparing it to LOTR, even if there are places where I think JRRT could have used a better editor. ("We're trudging through Mordor...we're trudging through Mordor...WE'RE STILL TRUDGING THROUGH MORDOR, LOL....")

#127: So did I, when I was a kid. Man.

People who say that always mean "the little section of [x] fandom with which I'm familiar." They don't seem to realize fandom runs much larger and deeper than whatever mailing list, community, message board, etc. they're on. It's less about finding A fandom and more about finding the corner of your fandom where you have a voice.

113 - They're good, but I have a hard time getting past 3 paragraphs to describe how Eragon holds a staff. It's a bit ridiculous, honestly, and without all that extra crap there wouldn't need to be a 4th.

Lots of funny secrets today. Awesome job, OPs!

[identity profile] elfinpiper.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
113. I have to say troll!secret, both for the unbelievable topic and the misuse of the word “bitter.” Why abuse it, bitter never did anything to you!

132. I’m not a Chase fan – in fact early on I couldn’t figure out what his use was. But in those days I was too into Hilson to give the other characters a thought. Chase is very well-rounded. His “lack of a backbone” is exactly what makes him interesting. He went places Foreman and Cameron wouldn’t go because he wasn’t afraid to compromise his ethics or morals. He was in it for himself. It makes him a jerk, and sure, a douche, but without him those first three seasons wouldn’t have been half as much fun. The best part? He grew up. Cameron only started dating him after he finally started standing up for himself. He is definitely not “just there.”

[identity profile] t3h-w0lfy.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
101. That irritates me sometimes as well. "Itadakimasu" I can usually deal with, but "tadaima!" and "o kaeri!" could pretty easily be "I'm home!" and "Welcome home!" :| I know I've had to explain that sort of crap to my school's anime club before.

141. People need to get over themselves at let fun things remain fun. Don't worry about what the internet tough guys think. 146. I think they hate him because he actually looks unambiguously male, lol. 152. It's not that strange, really. My sister's like that. She never reads fic or anything. (Of course, this may be a good thing because she's never struck with Fandom Inferiority Syndrome, AKA "someone's already written this and anything I try will faaaaail!" so when she wants to write fic, she just does it. I'm the one more likely to BAAAW for a while and then give up, XD.)

154. Secrets like this make me really wonder what it means to be a furry to furries. Because I feel the furries and the non-furries define this in different ways, and then there are the (it seems) fringe groups of furries (the having fursuit sex kind) who, as a vivid case, create a stereotype of the subculture that colors the mainstream population's view of furries. So yeah, I guess I just don't really understand what being a furry means between the extremes. Just curious.

163. Everyone also seems to like mediocre J-rock bands. Sensing a trend here.

154

(Anonymous) 2009-01-06 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine being a furry is probably like being part of any other fandom that has a name and is well-known in the media or online. You've got your quiet fans who just like the source material and aren't really into much beyond that, all the way up to the crazy people who are constantly at conventions in costumes and believe they're really a(n) animal/Jedi/Starfleet Officer/Sailor Senshi/whatever. Furries seem to have it a bit worse because of the blatant sexual nature of the most extreme sort of furry fandom.

I mean, someone who is an extreme Trekkie people will generally just pity and see as a little pathetic... but once sex enters the picture, a lot of people see that as reason to get uptight and superior attitudes, and that leads to hatred, it seems. They get the attitude of "Well, I may like BDSM, but at least I don't get off to *insert fetish here*".
