Yeah, they've certainly got a freakin' insane fandom worthy of a J-Rock band, huh? I know they're not revolutionary sound=wise, and I know their lyrics aren't exactly literary masterpieces, but frankly, I don't really care. I'm hooked on maybe three of their songs and it's funny to watch them make sandwiches on youtube. The end.

113 - Oh no, it couldn't possibly be that the plots are contrived and cliche. The characters are for the most part rather bland (although I'll admit there are a few fun ones). But most of all, it seriously reads like a teenage boy wrote it. Sure it's impressive that he got a novel published at such a young age, but it is in no way a stellar piece of fiction. It has its merits, but they don't go much beyond "A nice, fun read by someone who shows promise but hasn't quite grown into it yet."

137 - Aw naw, there's some fantastic stuff on FF.N, you just have to do some digging! This goes especially for older fic; not so much the more recent stuff - but it is there! I'm not ashamed to say that I check that site just as much as I check my lj comms. :)

163 - I much prefer Silbermond, Juli, and Atemlos myself. There's also a group (who's name has slipped my mind and it's now gonna bug me like crazy, argh!) who does some really neat hard rock versions of medieval music. German music is so unique!

not!secret 5 - Interesting map, but I would love to know the source material you used to come to the percentages. (Just curious! Cause whenever you start spouting percentages like that, you've got to know that people will be wanting you to provide support for their validity.)

113: The only way you could come up with this is if you are either a troll or haven't actually read LoTR. Or any of the other classic scifi/fantasy series. McCaffery's Pern series is one you ought to look into. I'm 99% sure that's where he got his portrayal of dragons from.

That series (if you've actually read other books) is really just a poorly disguised patchwork story of other, earlier worlds. This is immediately apparent to anyone who has any sort of range in their reading of fantasy and scifi.

At least LOTR had good writing to go along with a semi-cool story. (Admittedly, I'm not a fan of 'high fantasy' in general, but I seriously could not keep my eyes open for the first two chapters of Eragon. I got tired of it faster than Twilight)

113. I don't think you can really copy from someone who was writing an epic, since epics kind of follow an established pattern. So no, I don't think Paolini copied Tolkien. I cannot generate any love for those books at all, though -- tried reading and thought the first was decent/cute but nothing to catch my interest -- whereas I can reread Lord of the Rings pretty much anytime. So no, I don't think the Eragon books are a "bitter" series. ;)

(That said, just so you avoid mockery in the future, when you're being book-elitist and talking about how a certain series is so much better written, you might want to check your spelling and grammar. You must know how people jump on that shit.)

116. I don't think I'll get the people who don't get how people can compare themselves to fictional characters. Even fictional characters have characteristics, right? All that's being said is that they share characteristics with the characters, and if they're comparing themselves and someone else to two characters/a group, saying that they have a similar relationship. 141. This. For a lot of people, fandom is completely not-serious, fun time. Why are people who love shipping looked down on when that's their way of having laid back, not-so-deep fun? There's no problem with that.

143. The thing is, people can't help but judge a series like that sometimes. If the art style just bothers them, they're not going to be able to relax and submerge themselves into the series, and I can see where it would frustrate them and keep them from enjoying it. I don't have this problem for most things -- the one that came closest was DBZ, but that one's plot didn't interest me either, the art was just the tipping point when I was already leaning away from it. (Though I've seen a few episodes and they made me laugh -- cute series really is cute, seriously, and I've got nothing against it.)

But... yeah. Sometimes people just can't suspend their disbelief if all they can focus on is that the graphics really bother them. And that's fine, 'cos they aren't obligated to like it. It's a shame, especially if they're missing out on a plot/characters that they'd love if they could get past the art, but if they can't, they just can't.

Not!Secret 5 ... I don't think it's racist that they've got a lot of blondes. I just think it's annoying because it makes it really hard to tell them apart with the art style when they all look so similar WHICH IS RATHER IRONIC WHEN YOU CONSIDER THEY'RE ALL FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.

The only characters that I still get confused by are the Scandinavians. After awhile it becomes easier to pick out distinctive traits of each nation's design. But I think a lot of the similar features comes from the fact that some nations are grouped into "families"? IIRC. USA is the younger brother of the UK? And I think they're related to France and Canada as well. And Belarus and Ukraine are sisters of Russia. Even Hong Kong has the UK's eyebrows. So even though they're different countries, it's a way to show their relatedness and past relations? IDK

133- I ADORE Batty, but I've never actually "seen" this ship. I just.. never thought about it. Not sure how I feel about it. Personally, I've always shipped either Pips/Crysta or Pips/Zack.

When there's an appropriate English equivalent. I mean the opposite to your statement is also true, e.g. 'upperclassman'. That's a horrible translation. No one in North America or England or Australia is going to go around addressing the seniors as 'upperclassman'. We just don't have that system. If anything, juniors view seniors with more contempt than respect and the only responsibility they take with regard to the freshmen is in hazing them. It would be translating samurai as 'knight' and geisha as 'courtesan'. Pants on head retarded, and full of fail.

TL;DR, 'senpai' is a glaring exception to that rule, as are many others.
