Fandom is Storm Hawks

Raptors the OP wants to shag are Spitz and Repton, 'not getting any' guy is Hoerk

I ship *Repton with Starling SO hard, I feel the urge to hit things when people howl that it's bestiality because 'OMG she's human and he's not!'

143. if I don't like a series because of the quality of the art, it doesn't make me judgmental, douchbag. it means I don't like the art. period.

how can I get past the fuckugly art if it's right there in my face? the writing can be spectacular but it's ugly! whether you like to admit it or not, manga/comics/ and even anime, is a VISUAL MEDIUM. that means we LOOK AT IT.

get over your pretentiousness.

Dude! Are you up to date with the show and the character? He's actually the ONLY one who's shown actual character development since the first season. We've watched him grown from his "weasel" days during the Vogler arc, through the Mistake and into being the only one House had any respect for...probably why he actually fired him.

Even in the horror that is seasons 4 and 5, he has consistently shown more backbone than Cuddy and Wilson put together. Bookie Chase and House/Chase bowling were highlights.

I ship House/Wilson, but they haven't changed one iota since the first episode in any measureable way. When they try to (either one) it never lasts. You could more or less film the pilot episode right now and H/W would be EXACTLY the same. Wilson might wait a second longer before saying that House cares about him, but he'd still say it and House would still take the case only because Wilson asked him to.

Chase is different now than he was then. They should find a way to get rid of all the newbies and let House and Chase work together as colleagues. THAT might be an interesting show again.

Maybe.

101) I don't think you're elitist at all for that. Leaving stuff untranslated that's easily translatable is really damn amateurish and throws the viewer right out of the show.

I'd make a case for itadakimasu, though, because it's one of those cultural things that just a little more complex than "Thanks for the food!" as far as I know.

107, 109, 114, 122, 125) And the whiny asshole brigade marches on. BAWWW CRY MOAR to the lot of you.

107. Yeah, you pretty much are the epitome of "Baawww, cry moar." I'm popular in a couple fandoms, too. You know what? I still have friends in them. It's just a matter of getting past the introductions, and talking to people. Imagine that. Making friends through communication. AMAZING.

113. You know, I hate the Lord of the Rings books, but I still think those are crap, too. And not even original crap.

129. God, when will this idiocy ever end? Oh, that's right. It never will (manners on the internet? perish the thought!).

136. You are awesome. That is all.

152. That is kinda bizarre. Out of all my RL friends, I'm pretty much the only one in fandom, but we all enjoy different series. Why do you think people own televisions? Just to watch news?

153. Spirit love! ♥ He tries so hard, he really does. And Maka loves her Papa. She just doesn't like to show it.

Re: 107, 113, 129, 136, 152, 153

(Anonymous) 2009-01-06 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
107./ Not the OP (I've never been THAT popular), but for some people, do you know how bloody hard it is to make friends if people who talk to you fangirl over you? I've seen it in action. I've had friends who've gotten wildly popular in fandom, and it can be very difficult for even the most outgoing of them to strike up actual conversation with people who are fans of their work. It's like being a real life celebrity. A lot of the people who flock to you only care about your next work, and not a lot about yourself... or they care so much about your life and what keeps you from writing that they go absolutely batshit.

Not everyone can constantly rebound from that. I mean, somewhere in these comments is someone (ostensibly a jilted fan) calling out an author and calling them all sorts of names and just generally being a git. If what they're saying about the author's personal life is true... well, at least for me and my friends, that's the sort of thing that I wouldn't just be saying to any but my closest friends. So that implies to me that there is a lot of broken trust going on there. Honestly, I'd have a hard time being friends with anyone who squeals about my fanwork when they meet me, because I'd be worried that all they care about is my fanwork and they've got some grandiose idea about what I'm like and will be sorely let down when I don't live up to expectations.

On the flipside, a lot of people are afraid to actually talk to popular, well-known authors because of the idea of the Big Name Fan and the pseudo-celebrity status they attain, as well as what drama queen BNFs have done in the past. It's a lot like how people get absolutely flustered around their favourite movie star. It's easier just to geek out about their latest work than it is to try a meaningful conversation.

So, if both parties are leery of communication, your 'solution' falls apart. There's no need to be a catty cock just because you've had positive experiences and someone is sick of always having negative experiences.

Personally? I have reservations about people who approach me because they love my work. Why? Almost every single one of those people have left when I stop producing work in the fandom they enjoy. One who didn't? Turned out to be absolutely psychotic and self-absorbed and was just such a nightmare to deal with even when she was in a good mood that I had to cut her out of my life. THAT was a headache beyond all imagining that soured more than one actual friendship. Then there was the fiasco with the American election and how dare I not plan on voting for Obama~ because I was such a reasonable, intelligent, "tolerant"* person. So, that was the rest of the friends who I had just because they liked my work.

~I voted for Bob Barr, thank you muchly. One day the Libertarian Party will have the Presidency.
*I hate that term. Tolerance is when you don't like something but you put up with it anyways. So I laugh at people who pat themselves on the back for being tolerant of homosexuality, like they're so much better than everyone else. I much prefer to be considered accepting.

132 - I hope this is wankbait because he's easily the most interesting character on the show. His fucked up relationship with his father and his almost two-sided treatment of people is fascinating to me. I always find his reactions to patients to be BY far the most interesting. Ex-pot head living in his fathers shadow who goes to seminary and leaves only to follow in his fathers footsteps? Also, he has a distaste for a lot of people but chose to be an INTENSIVIST. Out of the other 2 ducklings, he has the most immediate contact with patients, which I always found fascinating. Is he pretty? Yes. Is he interesting as hell as a character? yes.

147 - I adore everything about Dexter/Rita including the creepy constant lie/separate life deal. I LOVE THEM. I love how in his way, he is open and honest with her and is genuinely falling in love with her even though he's convinced he can't feel.

N!S 1 - I really want to read the original novels now. D:
N!S 2 - I don't think she's a slut, but she does become magically marysue-ish out of nowhere. Like in book 2 she's all pine-y and lonely and then magically is this bamf popular chick. wat.

101. I'm a scanslator and not at all oldschool (I wasn't even born til 1988), but I agree, regardless. I think ideally, an English translation ought to be accessible to someone who doesn't speak the slightest bit of Japanese. I also like translations that actually sound somewhat natural in English. But then, I'm way down on the liberal end of the liberal-literal scale of translation, so.

101. Meh, I did a few scanlations and I pretty much translate every thing except honorifics (if the series is in Japan) and specific items related to Japanese culture. Honestly, do what you do. Some go for make it more palatable for non-Japanese speakers, some prefer to be more literal. Neither are bad as long the shit is translated correctly.

104. Whoa.

109. I never will get the appeal of dickgirls. Pre-op transgendered women, I would understand (and would like to read series like that), but dickgirls (especially when you know where the said penis come out from)? So not my thing at all.

111. Incest is the best?

113. There is no macro for what I'm feeling. And also LOL Freudian slip is Freudian.

122. Wow... oh wow. I actually feel bad for you.

125. + 139. Cool stories, bros.

126. This reminded me of when I was looking through one Japanese art site and there was this realllllllly nice pic of Harry and Edward, and suddenly I started pondering before I realized it and immediately mentally shut my brain down for a moment to wash that out of my brain before I can't unsee it. *sob*

141. I doubt most of the inhabitants at F!S think shipping is wrong. Do what you do. And admittedly, if I get super excited, I squee and I'm 25. I'm an excitable person half the time anyway.

146. I hate him because he was a bitch to beat. D:< The only boss in that game I had actually put in real effort to beat. I'm pretty indifferent to most of them except Marluxia, Larxene and Axel.

152. Some people and their need to join groups and labeling, seriously. I think it's pretty silly to judge a series based on its fandom. Half the series I adore I'm not in a fandom. Hell, most of the fandoms I'm in, I'm not an active member. Even if you're in a fandom, it doesn't apply to you. But word to everything you say.

156. Why?

NS#5. Forget it. I don't think anyone cares about evidence or some sort. At this point, neither side is not listening and set in their ways. If people want to believe the series is racist for having 9 blond-haired, blue-eyed characters out of 35+ characters, let them. This wanking long been a stalemate and pointless now and I rather see future Hetalia secrets based on other things than the wank, whether it's critical or support of the series.
