116: I've noticed that too.

158: I KNOW! She does not look at all beautiful in that role. She looks...old and grey.

159: There is a lot of Ewok hate, isn't there? I've always loved those furry little guys. But maybe it's because I first saw the series when I was about five and had a huge fondness for my teddy bear.

167: You know, I've tried reading slash about them too...most of my f'list seems to write it...and while it doesn't bother me that they like to do it, or anything, I know exactly what you mean. With this particular pairing, at least, I don't care about their sex, because there's so much more to a relationship than that and I'd really like to see a lot more of that in fic. Not just endless smut.
azurite: (starwars - got leia's buns?)

[personal profile] azurite 2009-01-10 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ewok hate just kind of surprises me. They're so CUTE! I cried when I first saw them and they started dying in the attack on Endor. ;_; I just wanted to hug them all.

167

[identity profile] banditjoeykuba.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it makes you a bad slasher at all. I have pletny of slash couples that I ship strictly for the emotional aspect of it. You definitely aren't alone. Though I do admit that I have several ships that I support strictly for the hot sex. But those are few and far between

[identity profile] kaiserkehl.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
139. YES! that's the best telenovela I've ever seen!.

167

(Anonymous) 2009-01-10 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
No you aren't a bad slasher. Go for what you like. While smut is great I know I can't ship anything (slash or het) until I feel there is an emotional connection. Really all being a slasher is is seeing homosexual pairings and wanting those pairings.

[identity profile] keikanas.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
oh dear, haha, I don't know if anyone explained this or not (that's quite a bit of comments to sift through), but the photo in #109 is actually a random progress shot I posted in a progress thread on 4chan's cgl.

Not trying to start a shitstorm, just setting something straight.

I'm not the original poster of that whole "I VACCUUMED UP MY HAMSTER PICO!" story, someone just chose, rather randomly, a photo of my Finland fabric to use for the topic image on the thread. Who knows if that person (probably troll) is a Hetalia fan or not. Just sayin', though I'm sure it's far too late, now.

103 - Jonathan LaPaglia! *squees!* I actually watched "Seven Days" for the longest time, and even when I watched "Without a Trace," the name/facial resemblance didn't occur to me. Then I watched re-runs of "Seven Days" and I had to double-take. It's awesome that he's still doing things and he STILL looks hot! *_*

116 - I'm pretty open with my spiritual views when the topic does arise, but I do wonder how the subject gets brought up in fandom in the first place. Because honestly, what DOES it have to do with fandom or fandom activity? Of course, if someone gets up on their soapbox and starts preaching, yeah, they're BRINGING it in; I had one reader of one of my fics rail on me for having the implication that two characters (unmarried) slept together. She said "[Character] better have slept on the couch because they're not married yet!" I didn't respond to the review, but I don't appreciate people bringing their religious views into fandom where they don't belong (that is to say, where opinions of such are not asked for/warranted).

I do think everyone's entitled to their own religious views. You're also entitled to step away from a fan or fen that are being soapboxy by being, as you said, intolerant. I do think a great amount of fandom is there to enjoy the fandom, NOT to bring religion into it. Sure, it's kind of interesting when you've got characters who might represent religion (Aslan, for example), but it's possible to have discussions like those without attacking fans for their personal religious choice(s). Anyone who brings up religion in an intolerant way should be ignored; arguing with them just adds fuel to their fire.

118 - WUT.

125 - Better him than Eddie Murphy IMO. But YMMV.

144 - You don't find religion on the Internet, sorry to say. You can learn about it, but if everything you know about a religion comes from the 'Net, then you need do take a step back, head to the library and talk to someone that can help you do some honest research. Don't be heartbroken/angry at fandom/thinking you're never going to find your answers. Take this as a learning experience. You can grow from this and find the answers you're looking for, but only if you TRY. (And "try" here means more than "use Google.")

158 - Yikes! For some reason in my mind, the Narcissa we saw a flash of in previous movies seemed MUCH younger and more beautiful. I'm sure the actress is cool and her acting skill is what got her the part, but she just doesn't LOOK it to me, either. I think I'm just going to accept the watercolor Narcissa from "The Death of Narcissa Black" as my personal canon from now on plzkxthx.

164 - I'm sorry, just based on "Sarah's" total abuse of ellipses and frequent misspellings (whether, sabbatical, truly, etc.), I wouldn't think any of her stuff is worth reading anyway. Maybe she had some good ideas, but even the best ideas are difficult to read if they're poorly executed (that is to say, aren't given the time/effort to spellcheck, proofread, etc).

That said, I'm a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan and I have no qualms admitting it. I'm 23. My personal interests within the fandom might be different than yours, but I do believe there are a lot of talented authors still in the fandom, so you should still give the fandom a chance. One author leaving for mysterious reasons isn't the end of the world. You might find that the rest of canon (be it anime, manga, whatever) is interesting enough on its own to come back and explore some more. There's always more fun to be had.

127: Yeah, that's what I keep hearing from non-fans of Twilight (I wouldn't touch that shit if you paid me, but hey). Alice, from what I've heard, is the one decent character in the series.

129: That's a good point, I think, and I'm not even in the fandom.

164: ... I'm not reading any so-called writer who can't spellcheck stuff like that. "Writeings?" "Sybadical"? You're effing kidding me.

168: True, true. I'm really surprised it doesn't have much slash, though that's kind of the thing. It's part of the joke of the show, if you know what I mean so maybe it doesn't attract that sort of fandom.

ns2: Ehhhhh, he's no porno star, but it didn't seem like anything unusual.

[identity profile] joyciel.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
110) It's true!
116) I KNOW! Well not particularly in fandom but when people make blanket statements like "Religion is nothing but evil and should be outlawed!!"
152) Maybe because there's so much less of it, people just forget...like I just thought...there are yuri fans? =O!
154) I LOVE SUPERFICIAL REASONS!!! Not like it's chocked full of history...seriously, how dare someone like something that is for ENTERTAINMENT not so seriously?!
163) Are you aware of the poster yesterday? Number one?

What?

Uh. It's been a known ARG for quite a while. I don't understand how you couldn't know it's fictional. I don't mean to be mean or anything (I'm sorry if I'm coming off that way, I'm really sorry.) but come on.

Also, I'm loving the LG15 secrets in general. MOAR PLZ.

116 - I don't think it's the religion itself that so many people have a problem with. It's the believers. Look, you're a part of a religion that is the majority (for the moment, although it's steadily declining) in the West. Plus, it's one of those that refuses to acknowledge the validity of other religions. Because of that, there's a long history of oppression toward non-believers and it creates an attitude of (usually unconscious) arrogance, insensitivity, and even aggression toward non-believers. So having faced that every single day, yeah, non-believers get cranky and resentful. It's not always fair, but there it is. And frankly, those Christians who don't share these attitudes with their co-religionists have done a piss poor job of standing up for themselves and for others against these oppressive attitudes.

If you don't share these attitudes, be sure to make it clear to other people and to stand up for them when you come across another Christian who does behave in a problematic way. Trust me, people will recognize the difference and they'll appreciate it.

143 - You know, I never hated Adric. He annoyed me a bit sometimes, but no more than Tegan did. I thought his death was really moving.

THIS.

115 - I KNO RITE? Ugh! Stupid writers...

135 - I'm not the only one? I want a self-insert threesome with those two. And it's not even really creeeepy creepster (read: Kaulitz RPS twincest creepy) incest because they're only halfies.

142 - IAWTC. Although, not so much about Baldwin's face being half gone and stuff. Just him.

young!Baldwin IV fic please? or, just give him a concubine that sticks by him through the leprosy

[identity profile] kryptonfox.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
109 - WHAT. Who gave that kid a living creature? D:

Moving away from that sad tale, I disagree with you about the overall point you were making. Thanks for the crazy story, though!

110 - Love is groovy and that movie is uber awesome for having characters with such personality!

116 - Don't be afraid to be honest; just play nice and have fun. You and your friends could have some really profound conversations if you're all willing to listen to others' beliefs. But if bashing starts, you can always just leave the conversation.

128 - D: And now sexual undertones have been applied to my nostalgia about Willy Wonka. D:

But hey! What was I expecting; this is F!S! :DDD

129 - Oh those silly males~. (Nice point, the thing is sorta based on some stereotypes, and males have been stereotyped to be the "default" human. But I don't know if the author has revealed his reasonings for choosing the sexes of his characters. It's possible that he didn't think much about the characters' sexes when he was starting the comic. When I create a character, I just think of one significant aspect of the character, like for example - Character A is supposed to be moody around everyone else except kittens, and the rest of the character starts to flow together on its own. After that, I'm kind of reluctant to tweak that character's basic image.

Perhaps something similar happened to him; after he saw the main cast as male he couldn't see it any other way?

TL;DR Oh those silly males~!

140 - You just like reading people's arguments in the comments, do you? Ha! Hear that? Ha! I shall give you no satisfaction, go seek your petty ponderings elsewhere! *Shoos you out with cane.*

*If I had a cane.*

144 - Hey, don't give up; you've still got life ahead of you. I sincerely hope you find the answers you need, and that you're surrounded by people who love you.

149 - Someone could make an Invasion of the Fangirls movie work. Someone could. I know it!

Oh and hey, the more you learn about history, the more emotions you get from it, like tragic emotions and also comedic emotions. I'm glad I've found something on the internet that has some light comedy based on culture and history while still being tasteful. It's nice.

(Oh, and I'm using tasteful as in my opinion of tasteful; I totally respect people who's standards may be different than mine.)

151 - *Insert checkmark here.* I need to get caught back up with Soul Eater; but I know I'll enjoy Stein appearances! He's a mad scientist who's also very, for lack of a more specific word, human; I like his personality and I want him to be happy at the end.

153 - Coolest. Looking. Secret. Ever. (Even though I've no clue who he is!)

154 - GAH MORE HETALIA I CAN'T TAKE IT I'VE BEEN REASONABLE SO FAR BUT THIS IS LUDICROUS YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE YOU'RE ALL INSANE THIS IS MADNESS OH LOOK A CUTE FLUFFY TIGER! I wonder if it will be my friend? :D

BTW per who is keeping track of the Hetalia madness, what's the score now? What do you predict the end results will be?

Person keeping track of Hetalia madness

(Anonymous) 2009-01-10 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Hetalia-defenders were losing in a landslide, but the idiotic responses on the part of the Hetalia-haters, particularly on the "I like it for the yaoi" secret, have got them barreling back into the losing race. The amount of I TOTALLY DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK AND TO PROVE HOW LITTLE I CARE I HAVE TO TELL YOU THIS comments are keeping the Hetalia-defenders slightly farther into the fail, though.

Overview: Hetalia-defenders still losing, but it's anyone's race.

(btw, with my scoring method, there can be no winners, only losers; also, they're right, I do need a hobby)

The really terrible thing is, I initially misread that last part as "and now I want to rape a soft whale with my *flist*:" which was just even more badong.

Re: 146

... Your icon and the fact that you have seen Kung Pow, or at least heard the word from there? Maybe it came from elsewhere and in that case my bad, but ANYHOW. These two factors are heartwarming enough to almost undo the damage caused to my innocence by that terrible, terrible secret.

151

(Anonymous) 2009-01-10 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's funny because his type of character is just as run of the mill as any of the rest of the characters in that series. No better, no worse, no more special.

Besides, some half-shinigami bebbies with Kid'd be pretty amazing too, imo.

113. ....I'll be honest, I feel that way too.... gah I'm terrible...but, the show is still halarious none the less to me

167. Of course that doesn't make you a bad slasher! I like to slash lots of pairings but I don't always base their relationship on what kind of sex they would have! There are some pairings I love purely for what sort of relationship they could have as a slash pairing, people have different tastes in slash ^^
