103. why have so many people missed the point this secret was making?"

Because it was worded more "ANGRY!! OMG LISTEN TO ME! ME SMART YOU DUMB!" than something anyone wanted to think about and sympathize with.

114: I actually think that they are a better match in the long run for each other than she and Mamoru ever were, in either anime or manga canon.

If anyone knows any active places for the ship, it would be much appreciated.

Also, would be interested in RP with you, OP.

128: Mmmph. Rewatched this recently, and realized that I'm kind of sort of turned on by her. A lot.

131: That would be the most awesome thing in the history of ever. Hm. I might look into this as well, especially with him kind of helping me realize that the character type he plays a lot is kind of my ideal man. (Especially Zack from Zack and Miri Make a Porno.)

147: That is probably one of the most harrowing scenes in the entire series, not to mention that arc, period.

But, as other posters said, Utena needs her moment of losing her way and her redemption.

I have my own theories that death in Ohtori does not necessarily mean death in the real world, but that series is so incredibly loaded...

155: ...Who's the chick on the left? I haven't been following the news for this, but I love her character design, and wants to know more.

That would be Oerba dia Vanille (with the pigtails).

[identity profile] ferricent.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
101: That book was the scariest of the whole series for me.
ext_81845: penelope, my art/character (contemplation)

103 I wholeheartedly concur. First of all, I can't understand people who don't like animation, period. Second of all, if you like animation at all, why ignore a massive chunk of the animation out there just because it happens to be Japanese?

104 What is up with all the Adama x Roslin secrets? I had no idea this ship was that popular. (Back when I was actually active in BSG fandom, everyone was all over Kara x Lee, but I guess that got old once it became actually pretty much canon.)

113 The actor is from Miami, but lived in Venezuela for a long time. I always just assumed the actor was from South America, but I checked IMDB and apparently he was born in the States. Weird. Oh, and you aren't supposed to know where Fez is from. THAT'S THE JOKE

115 But they were so damn shippable in the anime!

120 Whoa, their heads are WAY TOO FUCKING HUGE in that pic

133 I thought LOTR worked better as a trilogy of movies, simply because I could not stand Tolkein's writing style. I hate how he would pause in the middle of writing an intense action scene just to give you the complete life history of some creature or whatever. It was like he was trying to write the Bible (which is also a chore to read all the way through). I apologize to anyone who disagrees with me, but this is just what I think.

145 I just feel bad for them. When I was forced to go to church as a kid, I was surrounded by children just like them.

147 I am liking these Utena secrets.
I'm thinking that... maybe that wasn't how you were "supposed" to react to that scene, but that's how most people probably reacted. I remember being disappointed myself. I don't think she died, though. I don't like to think of Utena as a martyr. It's possible to make a sacrifice without being a martyr, anyway. I like to think she lived on as a failure. I also think that sometimes there's no shame in being a failure, despite the stigma society attributes to it (especially in Japan).

147

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like to think of Utena as a martyr.

Hell no. Just look what became of the two original martyrs in that series.

I like to think she lived on as a failure. I also think that sometimes there's no shame in being a failure, despite the stigma society attributes to it.

She failed at something impossible, and in doing so accomplished something real, without even realizing it. You're right; there's no shame in that.

I literally just finished reading ACC for the zillionth time yesterday. It's actually my favorite, so I was delighted to see a Vorkosigan secret.

And this from someone who watched an auction where a CD of Bujold inspired filk went for about $500 I kid you not!

[identity profile] train-diskense.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I get where you're coming from, but I don't view people who ship Rachel with guys as heterosexist. Just that they probably don't know how to portray Susan and think Rachel is hot (also: lack of females to pair with her.)

I personally only ship Rachel with anyone if they are a girl. Those fics are rare though. (I thought there were more, but I looked for them recently and only found a few.)

But most Keith/Rachel fics are just one-sided.

(I hate the Anderson/Rachel fics with a passion though.)

Re: 163

(Anonymous) 2009-02-07 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
IMO, I have issues with shipping her with anyone else, but that's because it's just so nice to see a lesbian whose relationship is steady and serious, rather than the whole "lesbians/gay people are sluts" thing. But, yeah, it's not nearly as squicky if she's being shipped with a girl.

107. IAWTC. Yuuki has turned into Bella from Twilight. *gag* -_-

111. *doubletake* Whoa, I thought that was Riley from TSCC before I read "9 years."

113. Fez from That 70's Show. I forget the actor's name.

126. ;____; Yes, I know, it's very sad. I don't get why there isn't a bigger fandom for this -- the lack of sparkly vampires? *rolls eyes*

119. I love this secret and kinda sorta wanna agree. A lot.

135. It's a damned good song, though.

142. O.O ANDIE? That whiney, snotty whack-job? *shudders* I hated her so much that I can't stand anything the actress is in. Plus, hi, she fucked someone else. I love that Pacey and Joey ended up together...but really, she should have been with Eddie, and Pacey should have been with Jen.

101. OMFG CHILDHOOD MEMORIIIIEEZ!!!!! :D
On that note, the cover art was ALWAYS much scarier than the actual book. :/ By far. (Same for those "Scary Stories" books I'm sure you all remember...You know, the ones with the nightmare-inducing splattery illustrations of grotesquely deformed THINGS, that had barely anything to do with the generic campfire stories accompanying them?)

102. Absolutely no interest in the show, but from the commercials I somehow got the impression that they were brothers :/

103. Meh, so many people are stuck with that medium=genre mentality. :/

105. Don't know what that is (I wish DKWTI was a known acronym since I use it so much in this community...), but I LOVE LOVE LOVE those costumes!

117. Ohhh, this is awkward :/ Honestly, I feel anything I say will not go over too well...

118. That is amazing! I admire this type of satire a lot more than I really should XD

122. I could never go back on that site because of all the nostalgia it would bring up :/ (Strange, discovering a lot of the bands I listen and shows and movies I like are ones I forgot about for years before rediscovering...)

135. ...thank you, azlyrics.com :/

160. I know! It's quite annoying when someone claims to have "outgrown" fiction and become a "normal" person :| Seriously, are we supposed to be impressed by people when they do that?

N!S 2. So basically, you're remaking a TV character in a video game and wanted to show us your results? Yeah, that's always fun :)

117. Wait till college. I had friends like you in college. They got over straight-edge fast.

125. I am half in the "wah-wah stop fucking with canon" camp, because there is something to be said about the classic storylines and such, but the other half of me says, "well, if *I* had a chance to write an X-Men epic movie, I'd fuck with canon, too."

128. Dude the queen in Snow White was HOT, fuck that noise.

132. It's one of the many reasons I pretend the last 10 or so episodes of Digimon: 02 didn't really happen.

133. I know many people who either refused to see the movies because of that, or saw them, and ruined their image of Middle Earth they had since childhood. I found the only people who loved it were, like me, those who were never exposed to the series beforehand.

145. I GOT THAT JOY JOY FEELING DOWN IN MY HEART -
WHERE?
DOWN IN MY HEART TO STAY! AND IF THE DEVIL DOESN'T LIKE IT HE CAN SIT ON A TACK -
OUCH!

Sorry, that's my favorite Rod and Todd moment ever. XD

146. That comic made me wonder if he was using actual Edward dialogue from the book or not (minus the cherry cheesecake).

111. So true. Tess wasn't my favorite in S1, but I loved her character in S2, and the fandom hated her sfm.

147

[identity profile] 7thisgod.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:51 am (UTC)(link)

107. You mean there was a time when she wasn't a Mary Sue?

114. Fear not, dear poster. We're still out here, perhaps waiting for the day, far in the future, when our powers of justice will be needed again. Even a classic fandom like Sailor Moon needs to slumber now and again.

117. *burp* ... *hic*

127. "I got paid!" :-P

147. (Are all the recent Utena secrets by the same poster?)

149. Finding love on Mockingbird Lane, are we? I was more of a Gomez / Morticia fan, but the Munsters are a more 'normal' OTP, if that makes any sense.

155. Hmm. Unisex Fantasy XIII.

157. Please tell me that's a gavel and not a huge penis.

170. And Transformers fandom is hard to top for sheer WTF-ery, as usual.

This goes along with [livejournal.com profile] jaclynhyde's comment early and the answer to their comment from the OP.

There is no such thing as "homosexism".

Ok, I have to butt in here.
Yes, there is such a thing as "homosexism."

If you're having problems with this idea, I suggest you do some research on "heterosexism" before trying to argue this any more.

Maybe you need to some research on "homosexism" too.

Also, with the whole Rachel/Keith, when it comes to RPS, people do know that the people they are writing about are in relationships. It's called, it's just writing, it's fan fiction, it's someone's idea, it's something that someone writes because writing is something love/enjoy/are inspired by. And by writing these RPS stories/slash/het/any form of fan fiction, people are able to get out emotions and share their ideas with other people.

All it is is writing.
It's not like it's real, so what's the big deal?

I have read some very Keith/Rachel fics in the past, but haven't written any. I've only read a few that are actually very good, if you take the time to read them.

I know that Rachel Maddow is in a relationship with a woman and I find it very wonderful that she has a great relationship and is open about being a lesbian. And I know other people who think that as well.

But, that doesn't stop people from shipping her with Keith.
Just like the fact that Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are married with kids, doesn't stop people from the shipping them.

You find things like everywhere with RPS.
In other fandoms where the actor/actress is gay/lesbian and in a relationship, people will still ship them with other people even though the person they are writing about is in a relationship.

That's why it's called fan fiction
