107. Have you read that mangaka's notes in the margins? She's been in love with Kaname since the beginning. >_> Bleh. Creepy lady.

133. That's understandable, considering you had your own vision of what middle earth looked like.

147. That scene was so disgusting. Utena why did you do it? WHY? D:

150. I miss that show.

107. She hasn't become a Mary Sue. She's still flawed, her actions still have consequences, and a total of two of the men in the series are after her (one of whom is her biological brother). Please, I implore you: learn what a Mary Sue is before you decide to throw the term around. Not to mention, all the ~magical changes~ have taken place because of Kaname. If anybody is a Sue in this series, it's him. (Is kind of a douche, but loved by all except for one person? Yeah, that's pretty Stuish.) Dislike the direction of the series? Fine. But please stop labeling every female character with supernatural powers and a pretty love interest a Mary Sue.

132. I only really have a problem with it when it's used as a get-out-of-karma free card. I have to agree with you on Tyki, though--he's certainly a well-done villain.

Someone besides me also thinks that her brother is a gary-stu? I must be dreaming.

Thank you.

I agree! Real men have hair everywhere, man.

Re: 116

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I have this knee jerk reaction to tell you that real man might have hair everywhere, or they might not have much hair, etc etc, like I would if a poster said that real women have curves.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing because it shows that I'm fair and defend both sexes like that, or if it means that I've developed a pathological response to "real X have Y" statements.

Most of the people I've met who categorically reject anime believe it's all tentacle rape. Usually because that's what they've caught someone watching, or accidentally run into somehow. Even after having the whole thing explained, they still don't want to believe me.

Re: 103

._. Fuck you, first off. For no reason. I just wanted to say that.

Secondly: As... As far as dick size goes, fans logically decide it on the landmass of the countries.

Which means, yes, Matthew has a bigger dick than Alfred. Beat that, you.

Other than that... *yawns*

I don't get it either. To each their own, I guess, but I don't think I've ever heard an anti-RPS argument that either isn't wrong ("it's more illegal than FPF") or doesn't make the arguer sound like they can't separate fantasy from reality.

Re: 156

(Anonymous) 2009-02-06 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My, my, aren't we superior today?

I'll tell you my argument. My argument is I have a nephew whose father is famous. And the idea of him accidentally stumbling on fic about his father fucking, being in love with, skipping hand in hand through the daisies with anyone who's not his mother makes my heart hurt. And not to extrapolate that to all RPS/F would make me a hypocrite.

That is neither wrong (unless you consider me wishing to protect my family wrong, in which case I've got nothing to say to you), nor making me unable to separate fantasy from reality.

101. Me, too. That entire book kinda freaked me out when I was a kid.

102. Lotsa people ship them. Also: Josh Peck is quite fine :)

156. I tend to feel like it crosses a bit of a line. I've sort of been getting into it more lately, but I still get a little weirded out by it. (And by "getting into it more" I mean RPF in general, not specifically RPS)

117. Do it! Drink before you get to college, because then you'll be good at it. Smoke weed, but just enough so that you don't become a massive idiot. Do the previous two in such a way that they don't blow your chances at the third. Life is invigorating, and diving into it makes your stories a hell of a lot better.

125. I balk at the 90s iteration being called "correct." Their continuity was all kinds of brain damaged, but I still loved the heck out of that show.

145. The current writers hate the Flanders clan. I miss the early seasons where they were the kind, and slightly different, next-door neighbors. Heck, even up until the tenth season Rod and Tod were still likable characters. I love moments like "Hurricane Neddy," where the boys get donated t-shirts at the shelter. Tod dons a Butthole Surfers shirt, and exclaims proudly, "look, daddy! I'm a surfer!" Optimistic and compassionate to a fault. They were interesting, Christian characters, and I miss the production team which treated them with respect rather than complete scorn. (And yes I think it's because they're religious.)

150. FACT: Once I almost called Michelle Trachtenberg "Nona Mecklenberg" to her face. I pulled it back at the last moment, but it still took me the better part of a meeting to remember her real name.

Yeah. Me too. I always liked their friendship so much, but lil'pete never was going to go that direction during the show. I'm just sad that there isn't a show like this on television to fill the void in this imaginary relationship.

I support this. It's not my pairing of choice, but I'm damned pleased that fangirls* are taking an interest in Grand Theft Auto. FICS AND ART NAO

*or fanboys that are more interested in slash than skins/mods/who could beat up Goku in a fight

114. While I myself am unashamedly in favor of Mamoru/Usagi over anything else, after finally having seen all of Stars recently, I can still see where people are getting Seiya/Usagi from too, and I really can't complain about it. They have a very strong bond between them that could easily go beyond mere friendship.

And I'd kind of like to find what remaining fandom there might be as well. I've found myself really getting into Sailor Moon as a whole again lately after many years, and it's been hard for me to find people to talk to about it beyond those who only know the dub.

Re: 114

(Anonymous) 2009-02-07 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
114 OP:
I REALLY like Mamoru/Usagi, but after watching Stars.. oh man. I had never seen all of it, but now that I've started watching it I realised that it's really a cute pair too. I like it more :x

Also, I've just started watching all the eps again, subbed. It's pretty cool to see not dubbed. Lol. :3

(Anonymous) 2009-02-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
111 -- A shame. Liking serial killers is totally in now. Some fandoms even ship them with the voices in their heads or with their own eyebrows or something.

117 -- Well, being drunk is sort of like having the flu while overtired, and sex with someone you don't actually love and trust rather less glamorous and sexy than fiction would have you believe. Smoking weed -- well, how about an asthma attack and a wicked craving for junk food, with the risk of jail. Oh, and you paid good money for it.

106: You do realize Alfons is dead, right? >_> Unless you're like me and completely deny that that part of the movie ever happened, that is. In that case, I'm all up for some hot Ed/Hei lovin'. Which isn't even a random pairing... it's one of the most popular Yaoi pairings in the damned fandom.

113: Ditto on that shit, man.

151: Awh, fuck you for putting that image in my mind! Because I find it hot, and that scares the shit outta me! D:
