107. LMAO here. Am I the only person who remembers that truly traditional zombies aren't always dead? In some versions the "magical voodoo type zombies" people keep mentioning were still alive. They only seemed dead, and when they woke up they were completely mindless slaves; typically of the person who made them, since said person would be the one waiting for them to wake up. Whether this effect was achieved by drugs, magic, disease, whatever, it didn't always result in death. Other "zombies" are more like revenants or ghosts. Modern zombies take some of those ideas, but it's really a very recent adaptation to have them wandering around eating people or "infecting" others.

Long story short, there's probably more versions of the zombie than there are countries in the world. Pinning down any one version and going "that one's the real one!" is like being bitchy because "dragons have wings, so Chinese dragons aren't dragons!" Actually, it might be even more senseless than that, because at least they're both mythological. This is a scientific take on a mythological concept (similar to werewolves made by genetic tinkering or somesuch). Of course the explanation and results are going to be a little different!

151. Oh, boy, could I babble about this one lol. Starting off with saying that people seem to think that fiction is supposed to have something to do with morality. Now onto the fun part where I take this secret waaaaay too seriously! And yes, I'm posting Anon because I don't feel like having random trolls wander onto my LJ because of my opinions.

I think what it comes down to is that incest is one of "those" taboos that's so ingrained we just accept that it's immoral and move on with our lives. In addition to a truckload of psychological triggers that make it personally unappealing (Westermarck effect), the taboo also makes it a huge social stigma. I wish I knew the reasons that incest became taboo. None of the reasons we cite today really seem like they would have been relevant in the past. We also know some cultures deliberately practiced it. (How many pharaohs married their sisters?) These days, it's pretty much a squick because it's a squick, it seems. (shrugs) The psychology and stigma of the whole thing make it pretty clear that it's going to stay that way for a while.

I'm probably about to have my throat jumped down, but I really don't see what's wrong with consensual sex (adult implied, since children can't consent), regardless of family connections.

1: THINK OF THE CHILDREN.
We've long since reached a point in our society where we've decided that sex is not purely for procreation—and even if a pregnancy should happen, we don't prevent people with a high risk of passing on a debilitating genetic problem from having children.

1a: CHILD ABUSE.
Again, consensual implies adult.

2: Psychologically damaging.
Not always (for example, Luke/Leia where the Westermarck affect doesn't apply and there's no power differentials). We also don't regulate people to "only healthy relationships", especially seeing as it's difficult to say that a relationship will be damaging beforehand.

3: Potential for abuse.
Again, not always (Luke/Leia again), and every relationship has a potential for abuse. We also do not regulate this until the abuse actually happens.

4: Social stigma.
There's social stigma in a lot of things—especially those that were once considered immoral (a woman having sex before marriage, for example). Again, that doesn't mean something is wrong or should be illegal—only that most people think is is and should be. As history has shown us, "everybody" is not always right.

5: The Bible says it's wrong.
I invite you to read the Bible; there's some divinely-sanctioned incest in there. An example is Gen.17:15-16 & 12:13 (Abram & Sarai are half-siblings). So it's not really all that clear-cut (as many things in the Bible seem to be). I would also like to remind you not that everyone accepts the Bible or its tenants.

That's pretty much all I can think of, but if someone else wants to throw me a bone (or try to change my mind? That's always fun), I'll be happy to gnaw on it. :D Let the condemnation begin! (Assuming anyone actually reads this far down.)

I had the smae problem. I never shipped Snape/Lily but in the final book it just broke my heart. But I read a Fanfiction and there Snape got his "own heaven" with the Lily that could have loved him (and did in that reality/afterlife) if he hadn't turned to the Death Eaters. I really can't imagine it any other way now. :)
Maybe you don't like accepting FFs as your canon to feel better but I just wanted to say that. And no sadly I don't have a link to the story.

152.) I love <3 Babylon 5 with all its flaws and extremely low budget. I like Star Trek too. Gasp! But I found Star Trek to be far too happy-go-lucky to downright full of Mary Sues and Gary Stus--I wanted something a bit darker. The characters on Babylon 5 were extremely flawed and often times, the characters were in shade of gray; they did things you didn't agree with or even like. Some people had a hard time getting into it because of that, alone.

I'm just boggling at the number of reviews for a story that's only been up for one month. O_o The majority of them are probably just "Love it, update soon!" but at least the Twitards are motivated to let an author know they liked it enough to be bothered to click an extra button or two.

Can't say that for the vast majority of other fandoms.
