172. INDIANA! OVER HERE! *waves arms*

Indiana barely ever gets mentioned in anything...

I even cheer when someone from Indiana is on Jeopardy.

107. It's probably because you're definition of what a zombie is and everyone else's definition are different. It happens.

115. Well, sometimes it's too serious and people need the fandomness of it to cope without tearing their hair out. I know I sometimes do.

120. I still think it's bullshit. I loved Itachi as a bad guy and making him good just ruined the whole thing. But that's just my own personal opinion.

107 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-10 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably because no one but me seems to know what the dictionary definition of zombie is apparently.

107. You moron, those are zombie movies. Sorry to tread on your precious elitism.

115. It's not THAT real. Though I do agree it doesn't belong here.

125. That was my favourite movie in the cosmos for so, so many years. When I was in kindergarden, I had this personal Quest. Because I was such a shy kid, I used to challenge myself to climb up to the top of the jungle gym and yell the name of the movie as loudly as I could. How you could determine from that film that life is not worth living puzzles me, though. I got the exact opposite message from it.

135. I dunno, I think the same thing. By a very slim margin, but thre same thing. I'd still never let anyone but one person on the planet know about me crying over anything, though.

145. That was my favourite part of the entire series. And I agree completely.

160. Reasons why racial inequality continues to exist # 4091: Political Correctness Leading To Pity For Humans Who Are Actually Exactly Like White People Only Not White. DISCUSS.

163. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!

171. You're probably right.

176. Ohhhh no. I like Repo specifically BECAUSE she plays a character that is a mockery of herself AND HER FACE FALLS OFF. And that other dumb broad gouges out her own eyes and gets impaled. IT'S LIKE A MOVIE MADE FOR PEOPLE WHO HATE THOSE TWO. <3

107. Personally I think with supernatural beings like zombies you do have to accept the term is going to evolve. Look at vampires too, some stuff stays the same over the centuries but modern expectations when it comes to them (and zombies) differ to the ancient legends in many ways.

And in those films you could argue that the people are still technically dead, it's just not a supernatural affliction that causes them to reanimate. By "techincally dead" I mean that the person you once knew isn't really there anymore. The infection has effectively killed the person we'd recognise and replaced it with something that at least resembles a zombie.

166. I WISH I COULD UNSEE THIS! DOND will never be the same for me ever again :'(

Me too. Actually, I started sobbing because I was so worried that the Marauders wouldn't accept him still. I cried so hard because it hurt me so much to think that Lupin, who gave him the benefit of the doubt until Dumbledore's death, died thinking that he was the villain that most people said he was. ;__;

That whole book was one big sobfest, seriously. haha. I cried like my cats were dying.

And you are under the influence that the J2 fandom cares about your opinion because....

It's their opinion and it's their fandom. If you don't like it, stay out of that section of the fandom. If you think we need to get lives, keep that to yourselves. We do have lives but sometimes we want to read a good fic. We don't insult you for what you like to read in your down time, show the same courtesy, even if you are anonymous, I bet if someone insulted your fandom you would defend it too.

Watch some videos of them okay, they don't even try to play like there isn't something going on between them. And yes we know guys can be really good friends and not be gay. But the chemistry and their actions speak louder than words. We see things like them hugging and being all up on one another and we think they totally are doing something behind the sets.

Oh and yes, I ship it so so so hard.

Okay, I was with you until this point. I slash pretty much everything, have tried to get into J2, watched/read/looked at all the little 'evidence' stuff, but seriously I am not seeing anything (which is a bummer because a lot of my favorite Wincest writers write J2 also). So while it's cool that you ship them, not everyone is going to see the 'chemistry' like you are and it's bordering on tinhat crazy if you think that they will.

126. I'm a big Watership Down fan, and I can tell you that you're definitely missing the point of the story. Please don't give up hope yet.

161. I don't think it's a masterpiece, but it is a fun, upbeat, interesting little series. It's certainly nothing deep or incredible, but it manages to be very fun to watch and I think that's where the appeal comes from. That's what I like about it, anyway.

upon rethinking my word choice, perhaps 'preachy' wasn't exactly what i meant. my problem with the movie (and i'm having a hard time articulating what it is specifically that i dislike, so please excuse any confusion) is that it spends so much time telling the viewer what to think. i dislike this for two reasons. first of all, because when dealing with such universal subject matter (as in, not limited to this single situation), simply repeating your opinion over and over as if it were fact is not a valid argument. and secondly, because i feel like all of the conclusions that ARE supposed to be drawn ARE limited to the situation portrayed in the movie, which in itself is rife with holes and ridiculousness. overall, one needs to be SHOWN why such an opinion (in this case: that true evil cannot be unlearned) should be taken, not TOLD, with examples that lie in the midst of a silly, fictional story.

i really hope this comes across correctly.

107:

I seriously cannot believe, out of almost all of the things I have seen on this community, that some no-life basement dwelling internet troll has to gain a form of elitist confirmation on their own life over their friends and other strangers over something so stupid as this.

Do you actually do anything worthwhile with yourself or would I be correct in assuming that, for you to be judgmental over something so asinine as this (and to argue the undead factor for... how many pages?), that you have nothing better going for your personality than a "complex understanding of the zombie-horror-genre".

Here is my fandom secret:

Fandom secrets makes me nervous that my friends are secretly as idiotic as this OP and that I may, someday, endanger a friendship by slipping up and mislabeling a mythology, fantasy or science fiction creature as another similar, but technically separate, creature of the same design that for all intents and purposes was designed to be like said creature for an entertainment-flick in the first place.

Then again, if I found out one of my friends judged me (or even took it further and decided who their friends were) based on correctly naming horror-flick creatures, I have to say I would be quite the judgmental prick too (much as I am doing now) by pinning someone like that as the type of snot-nosed hateful troll that I wouldn't need in my life. Of course, there's a small amount of pity mixed in with that.

Sure, maybe I have done nothing but make outrageous and outlandish assumptions on your personal and real life - but when you say stupid shit like this, be forewarned that this is the mentality it invokes. It's much like the angry gamer trolls in World of Warcraft that base their entire self worth on having a set of rare binary code on their binary paper doll.

By the way, I classify them as Zombie flicks. Oh shit, son!

107

[identity profile] agentphillips87.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
107) They may not really be zombies (I've been known to bring that up myself when I'm feeling pedantic and contrary, just to piss people off), but thematically those are still "zombie movies", in much the same way that Jekyll and Hyde is thematically a Werewolf story even though he doesn't actually turn into a wolf.
The basic requirement of a "zombie movie" are that you have a vast amount of formally human monsters with no 'humanity' left in them, who wipe out the bulk of the population by either killing them or causing them to become monsters themselves. You then typically follow a survivor or group of survivors through this post appocalyptic world. Exactly what the 'monsters' are (alive or dead, actually eating human flesh or just killing/infecting people through bites) isn't the most important bit, the important part is watching how the survivors deal with the breakdown of civilisation, the knowledge that everyone they've ever known and loved is dead or a monster, and the fear of being either killed or turned into one of the things doing the killing.
By this definition, 28 Days and Weeks Later are "zombie movies", even though those aren't zombies, as is the movie version of "I am Legend" even though those were technically vampires.
Anyway, my point is, you're right, those aren't zombies...but they're still "zombie movies".
