106 - I love Deadpool as well! I was just re-reading his old series a couple of weeks back.

114 - The responses to this will be interesting...

124 - I wouldn't take it to heart. Some people simply prefer fics that are more romance-based since they often don't get it in canon. Also, it isn't something that happens with just slash pairings - I've seen het writers with the same complaint.

128 - Ooooh I thought I was the only one that can't stand Lucky Star! Also, there's a few shows/movies I hate but will play the hell out of the OSTs.

129 - The cause itself should be something you should stand behind, whether you dislike other feminists (or their methods to support the cause) or not.

You thought you were the only one who couldn't stand it? That's surprising to me, but come to think of it I guess it doesn't have much of a hatedom outside of 4chan.

Yep. ^_^ I'm really hoping they don't screw it up.

111. I really see no problem with creating a community for het pairings (Gwen/Lancelot kyaa~) but calling it a 'haven' is kind of squicky. It brings to mind scary Morgana/Gwen and Arthur/Merlin fans with like. Chloroform and baseball bats. WHY DO YOU NEED A HAVEN WHEN NO ONE'S ATTACKING YOU? :(

OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-04 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, they exclude every mention of slashy/gay pairings from the fic and people who've written slash before are asked to watch their words if they want to join. I'm by no means a slasher, but that turned me off something terrible. I love my Uther/Morgana, but I can see and understand that people ping on Merlin/Arthur, hell, I've made it a background ship in my own story for some Uther angst once.

What band? I'm just curious because if I like that band, I might want to go seek this fic out.

Also, I understand your qualms about this. I once wrote fluff about a band member and his girlfriend. I felt really weird about it afterwards. Buuuhhh.

105: Are you my sister???

114: It's always disgusted and baffled me that so many people's definition of "fun" is "hurting other people who aren't hurting you." To be fair, it also baffles me how people who claim to want to be writers never learn to take constructive criticism. (Which, true, is still something I occasionally have problems with, but I don't attack people for providing it.)

134: Definitely a much better bunch of questions to ask than some of the stuff I've seen people nitpick and obsess over.

(Edited because so many of the secrets I want to comment on like, NEVER show up on page 1 of the post. WTF??)

t!b 7. Holy snookums is that that kid merman from the animated series? I... don't really remember him in any way whatsoever beyond that. Sorry.

106. No, I'd say he's still crazy. Amusing and not loved enough, true, but still ca-ray-zay.

110. Oh, I do agree that the Predator's and Fulgore's masks make me quiver in fanboyish glee. There is just something so ungodly cool about them. Who is Katsumoto though?

115. I think John did too. Poor, poor John ;_;

116. Oh, signed and agreed. Because then I could at least dream that someone would just off the little douche-drinker already BUT Goku just had to be a Jesus.

125. Or Lelouch. Or Napoleon. Or just about anyone with large dreams who made an impact, only to fall from grace in a spectacular fashion.

126. What's the name of this show?

134. I can see where you're coming from. To someone who wants to debate the line between fiction and reality, what people perceive as real and how the fictional stories can be more "real", more valid to them in every day life than other "real" occurrences is probably an interesting debate, and seeing it go neglected when it's where your interest lies must be harsh... but how much do you honestly think we can get from it? Most people probably don't think about it just because they ARE fictional characters: they don't care about discussing the nature of reality because they don't think it's relevant to their every-day lives, whereas discussing issues on a more "shallow", as you put it, level means they can discuss the things in THEIR every day life, bring THEIR opinions to the table in the context of discussing a show.

Too long and probably confusingly put (I'ma naming it TL:PCP): people don't think that kind of thinking will ever amount to more than navel-gazing and as such isn't interesting to engage in.

That, or they're just in it for the hot dudes and chicks. That's life for ya buddy. Not much we can do about it, but try and find and be grateful for those who share our interests.

137. ... Well, I can assume that that also meant that when Chad turned around and finally stood up for himself, that must have been even more powerful, huh? One of my favorite endings in the show actually, just for Cartman getting his come-uppance in a way that wasn't amusingly violent or over-the-top.

145. Well. Way to set the bar high. I mean for crying out loud, I'm tonedeaf! I'll never learn how to play a guitar!

146. THEY ARE MAKING NEW EPISODES? Oh my goodness Aunt Bessy-Marybelle where can I get a confirmation of this?

156. Personally trying to "see" anyone in the real world as Link is always going to be a bit of a stretch to me. I just... fumble in the dark when I do it.

157. Is this a game? I don't know why, but the design looks familiar despite the fact I can honestly say I have no idea who the characters are.

And I really get my knickers in a twist when people act like the only reason to do something well is because you're getting paid for it. I have a lot of hobbies I suck at, and the pleasure of doing them is trying to learn to do them better. If you aren't getting paid for something, why would you want to do it quickly and shittily? Why not take time and try to do things well?

I was going to say I have no idea how it's an "entitlement issue" to point out that crap stinks, but then I read yet another post by a Doctor Who scenester whining about how they were here first and the new fans need to gtfo, so I kind of do feel you there. I promise not to watch any classic episodes ever if it will make those people hush.

Re: 114

(Anonymous) 2009-03-04 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I don't think all of those fans doing it "shittily" realize they are doing it so.

I can't believe there's a Crosby secret!!

All you Sid haters can kiss my ass - he's the greatest player in the game, followed closely by Malkin

You're all just jealous he doesn't play for your team!

For being so young, Crosby has led the team so far. Anyone who says they "hate" him are obviously jealous.
That's my two cents.

It is, but as someone that has had fanatic feminists in my face quite often...I really understand and don't blame some people from being turned off. You associate things with other things -- and if they association is negative, some people aren't going to stick around; they don't like the uncomfortable feeling or reminder or whatever the negative association brings.

You might hate me for this, but I find it ironic how your icon looks like a pink chibi-fied version of ET sans long neck. Just draw in a nose between the eyes... or, hell, that middle bump could be a nose that grew into a tumor and inched up to the top of his head.

It could be like an ET fairy or something... or perhaps what the female gender looks like... or perhaps an animated version of ET's heart come to life.

No, bad brain... urr, I should go to bed now, I'm obviously tired.
