Augh! I really, really would like to watch this show but I only speak English! Is there an English version out there? Because this definitely seems like something I would enjoy.

127. That's exactly what I've been thinking. "WELL... THEY COMPLETELY RUINED THE "RORSCHACH IS HIDEOUS" THING... but I do like staring at hot people uhhhh..."

134. Ahhh... You should probably tell them as soon as possible. The longer you keep it a secret, the worse it'll be when you tell the truth.

139. Haha, I do too. They are so cute and adorable and I want to mother them. *_* I don't think it makes anyone a bad feminist. It's become a stereotype, but then so has the tomboy, tsundere, etc. As long as it's a part of their personality and not their whole characterization, it doesn't make them a bad character.

101. My first thought was, slash involving the Monopoly guy? :o
But although I can't quite figure out the fandom, I also get jealous when someone else is flamed even though I did something similar :/ Maybe I'm just desperate that way....

118. Agh, fandom in general has the tendency to "cute-ify" everything. It's really obnoxious.

127. Ok, I don't think he's ugly, either. In the movie or in the book. I think, he's only "ugly" in the sense that he's not what society in general accepts as their standards for "OMGSOOOOHAWT!!!11" But, of course, that's how many fans see him.....and I don't really mind that, as long as they don't take it to the extend of some.

148. It's an escape?

155. I haven't even gone on that site (for serious reasons, at least) in years, but..I feel the same way about artists on DA. I mean, last night, I stumbled upon some pages of amazing artists who had barely any watchers....and compared it to several crap artists who everyone watches (And comments on, but every single comment is along the lines of "OMG KAWAAAIIII!!! ^______^") I kinda feel better about my DA status now, actually.

148

(Anonymous) 2009-03-09 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
In a way. I think it's more that because I've expended so much energy caring about fake characters, I don't really have much left over to care much about my friends. Or it could be that they whine a lot, so I've gotten numb that way. It's hard to say.

101. Monopoly slash? Seriously? What's the pairing, Uncle Pennybags/Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Guy?
EDIT: Oooh, it's HOUSE slash, isn't it? That makes so much more sense.

117. It looks almost exactly the same! why does it matter??? I mean, I like the original outfit better, but I don't care about it that much either way.

122. It's a really beautifully done movie, and the way the romance was built up over several years really makes the relationship seem much deeper than the typical movie romance, I think. Just my 2 cents.

156. ...And...what's wrong with someone wearing clothing from a different culture? Isn't sharing culture a good thig? Particularly if we're American? Being aware of other countries and what they have? I'm...really lost on the concept that it'd be a bad thing for someone from America to like something that isn't American.

170. Or maybe liking one and not the other is just a matter of taste? (For the record, I love them all when written well.)

156 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-08 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
While it isn't bad for Americans to like different cultures, and to be aware of them, a lot of people think that it's incredibly tasteless for an American to start adopting parts of other cultures for their own. A lot of times it can turn out like, "ooh, I'm wearing a [[insert traditional garment from some other culture]]! Look how knowledgeable and open-minded I am!" And that sees to be the argument against it, for the most part- that someone's taking bits and pieces from a culture to make themselves happy, without really knowing what that culture's about.

I hope that wearing a fashion from another country that's recognized but not exactly mainstream isn't enough to make you that one American, but since I posted it as a secret, I'm still a little worried about it. Personally, I don't think it's bad to share culture as long as you aren't being that one guy, but I know a lot of other people do.

It was aired quite a lot in the Netherlands. Where're you from?
I used to watch this show every time when I was a kid, and I'm still a big fan. It took the social and political problems of the time in which it was made very seriously and didn't talk down to kids, which was good.

Actually, I have the same feelings about this one. My best friend has become it's shipper, but i'm fed up with this fandom. I can't tell her about it, cause i don't want to make her feel lonely in her thoughts and i do my best.

[identity profile] justaminuet.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
109. Then you're a bitch. Not because you don't like the character, but because you're already prepared to flame and lambaste her in every public forum you can. You fail hard, loser.

113. THIS. A THOUSAND TIMES THIS.

136. I miss old school Emma. The new version of her is a let down to me. It's like the writers were trying to strip away her class every chance they got.

150. We can be blasphemous together then, OP.

170. Waaah, how dare you not like everything?! Oh, fuck off, OP. People are allowed to like what they like. We aren't required to like everything out there.

Re:170

[identity profile] mcwicca.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the OP was just saying that it's not fair that people who like only slash tend to be looked down upon whereas it's perfectly fine for people to like only gen or only het. I'm not saying this is always true, but it is a trend that I've noticed in fandom, and it's one that goes against your belief of letting people like what they like. I could be wrong, but that was how I interpretted it.

Okay, I can understand thinking that liking only slash or only het is dumb, but why is liking only gen the same as that? Het and slash are both sorts of romance, gen is anything non-romantic - what's wrong with not liking romantic fic?

Re: 170

[identity profile] batty-gal.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because of the secrets that have been on here blasting people for not writing more Gen.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
134. I'm in exactly the same position, only I lied about my name. (how was I supposed to know those random internet people would end up still being my BFFs 5 years later?) Yeah. No advice, but you're not alone.

[identity profile] comicaze.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
127. The graphic novel always went out of it's way to say how ugly he was, I didn't think he was bad there either. So he's a ginger. Big deal. So he has a lot of freckles. It almost makes me feel bad for gingers. Like they're automatically just categorized as "ugly" for no reason.

142. I'm surprised there isn't a separate community for comic book secrets.

144. I do the same thing. I know. I'm such a five year old. But just think it'll make you so much cooler when they want to ask you if something is in the graphic novel or not. My friends do that all the time now with comic book movies.

I feel stupid though because I'd read it and been mispronouncing Rorschah's name for the longest time.

161. I agree. Didn't really care for Daphne in the Rocky Horror cast recording either. Although, in all fairness, I'm pretty much in love with Rosario. So I may be being judgmental. (But I had a good Mimi when I saw it on tour too. Either of them would've worked.)

[identity profile] ayeayes.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
127. I just took it to mean that the characters in the comic found him ugly.

I was in the same position you are once. I finally admitted it when I couldn't take lying to people I cared about anymore. They understood, and they didn't disown me. We're just as close as we were before, if not closer. And in the end? it's only two years. in the grand scheme of things, two years is barely anything.

If these people are really your friends, they'll stick with you, I promise. ♥

best of luck, no matter what you do, anon. :)

Tell them. Period. Full stop.

If you really want to keep your friends, you can't lie to them. What you did was understandable-- if still pretty rude-- and I'm sure you're still going to catch some flack for it. But honestly, if they don't want to be your friend even after you break it to them gently and with apologies for being dumb and lying to them, then you are better off without them.
